Theirs plenty of lures out there that are meant to catch fisherman and ones that catch fish, even some that do both!
What are your favorite lures, and which were highway robbery? Post your best and your worst- give a review!
One of my favorite hard baits is a Rebel Juppin Minnow
Spinnerbaits - Good old reliable
Senkos - I just have so much confidence in it regardless of how I fish it.
Bass Flies - Gives the bass something different to look at, and the fly poppers are killer. I fish them on spinning tackle using various casting float/bubbles.
The heavier streamer flies almost never fail me when nothing else is working. A subtle, "feathered" version of plastic swimbaits. I'm surprised more bass anglers don't cast flies on spinning tackle.
Hard Baits - I use Rebel's ultralight shallow divers when I'm in the mood for it, the craw and frog cranks are my favorites.
Also the jointed floating minnow. If absolutely nothing is working, even flies, I'll tie on one of these. Saved a bleak winter day for me
Hula Popper! - One of my favorite topwater plugs.
Rigs - I don't usually get too fancy with rigs and setups...a T-rigged plastic worm or split shot rig with worms/craws/creatures is about as fancy as I get for bottom fishing for bass.
Also using floats to suspend a soft plastic is lots of fun and productive for me.
As for the worst...hmm I'll have to think about that, but the fishing gods refuse to allow me to fish lipless cranks successfully. It's strange I know. But they simply have never worked for me.
Favorite Frog...Green/Pepper Scum
Favorite Top...White Pop R
Favorite Plastic...Honey Candy Cut R
Favorite Swim Bait...Houdini Skinny Dipper
Favorite Hard Bait...Bomber A
Worst...Don't really have one, I tend to stay with what I know works for me in the South/Central Florida waters I fish.
I stopped experimenting long ago.
Mike
Topwater: Hula Popper
Hard bait: Super spot
Soft plastic: Rage Craw, senko
There is one lure that I can't seem to get any fish on, and that's a walk-the-dog lure. I have several original spooks and the Yamamato Pencil Tate, and throw them a lot just trying to get a fish on them, yet the best I've managed is one strike that didn't result in a hookup.
The Berkley Havoc Devil Spear is a bait I haven't pegged a fish on yet......and buzzing frogs.
I have had a lot of luck with the yum christie critter in green pumpkin black flake.
Topwater-The Rebel Pop-R- has terrible hooks but it is a great bait for a the price and is overall my favorite lure of all time.
The Lobina Rico- is an amazing popper BUT it is really expensive
Crankbait-Storm Arashi Square 3-Has amazing action and catches a lot of fish around cover
Soft Plastic-Berkely Powerbait Curlytail Worm- Not very durable but they are not expensive + they catch tons of fish in the right conditions
Worst-The Megabass Pop Max was a lure meant to catch fisherman, not fish. This thing just does not catch fish and I seriously don't know why. One day I was using the Pop Max in GG Bass color and my friend was using the Rebel Magnum Pop-R In Ole' Bass and he out fished me by far. He caught 10 in 1 hour and I caught 1.
My favorite lure is the spinnerbait, it is super versatile and draws some of the most violent strikes imaginable!!! My other favorite lure is the jerkbait, both suspending and floating, fantastic fish catcher in clear water. I have a bunch of lures that I love fishing, square bills are killer when the fish are on them and jigs, well I make jigs as I prefer them to worms but when you say favorite, it means something else. Favorite to me means the lure that you would use if you could pick which bait you would want the fish to bite, and I listed mine but in reality I really like all lures and I don't think I have one that didn't catch fish when used in the right situation so I don't have any that I hate.
meggabass vision 110
sk series 5
sk anaconda ribbon tail worm
Favorite bait is probably a jig. I have never used one that I didn't like. Least favorite is a beetle spin. I have never caught anything on them, and that is after using them off and on for over 40 years.
Lures are made appealing to fisherman but meant to catch fish.
I had some terminator spinnerbaits that were not balanced and came in spinning in circles. Had several Rebel Deep Wee R's that had no action but when I get a good one its real good. Same thing with the old Manns razorback Hogs .I have two Bomber Speed Shads, neither work . I cannot get them tuned and they run way off one direction , not searching like they are famous for .
My favorite is a technique not a lure & that technique is a Texas Rig.
It will catch all species of bass
It will catch in all seasons
It will catch on top, mid-depth, & bottom
It will catch morning, noon, or night
It will catch in all weather conditions
My worst lure is a Brush Hog, total waste of money, Baby Brush Hog you bet, full grown one uh! Nope!
I like the Strike King KVD Frog
Topwater, custom painted popper
Cranks, wec mutt, rapala scatter, dt10
Worms- yamamato senko
Craw -zoom
Jigs- mrsooperbass or seibert

I agree- love the 10 in' culprits. Don't ever want to go smaller than that! Why bother, the 2 #er's eat them just as well as a 6 in' worm!
Favorite Craw/Jig trailer are discontinued, but can be found online

Favorite is Berkeley Powerbait 7" tequila sunrise worm. Worst is the frog. Can't seem to set the hook when I get a hit.

Look up frog trailer hook-they work
I want to be good on a jig/craw combo, but I'm not. usually by the time I feel the bite, they feel the weight and are off before I can set a hook.
I am good with T-rigged plastics. I have all the confidence in the world that I can get a bite and land a fish on a worm, craw, fluke, tube or anything else you can T-rig. Any color you want as long as it's dark. So I usually go to them first when a reaction bite just can't be bought and I know there are fish there. In a pond there are always fish there.
My biggest bass ever came on a Snag Proof frog. I have a ton of confidence in this lure for warm weather pond fish and usually good size. You can see small bass creep up to it an turn away. But the big girls...HOLD ON! I saw a Lunker Lure frog in Academy and didn't buy it. Been kicking myself since. I like the ones with realistic legs better than the ones with skirt legs.

If you're using a soft hollow body frog, you can let the bass hold the lure for two full seconds before you set the hook-this is difficult to make yourself do. You want the fish to close his mouth before you set. You'll still lose some, but fewer. Last time out I caught three good fish on one. I missed as many. But when you miss, don't get frustrated and reel up fast. Let it sit still like it's stunned then start twitching and resume the retrieve. I've had a fish swipe at one the entire retrieve.
Also, use heavy braid. Cross that fish's eyes and keep cranking when you set the hook or it won't penetrate.
If you get a miss and you've already reeled in, toss a worm back to that spot and let it sink. This works for all topwater lures. I like the wacky rig for that.

I LIKE catching fish. If that's what they want, that's what I want to do. But I admit I love the "tick-tick" you feel when they take that bait and start moving away with it.
I love me some top water blow ups or that thud on the jig. Number one confidence bait is a T-rigged plastic though. Worst? Don't really have one, although I can't seem to dial in bladed swim jigs.

I never said I didn´t like to catch fish, a man gotta do what he gotta do in order to get the job done, actually, I´m deadly to bass with soft plastics and jigs but that don´t mean I like them, it´s boring as hell, I like to cast and retrieve fast, I like to machine gun cover, the only jigs that fit the style of fishing I like are swim jigs.

Guess I'm getting old. After a day of steady cranking and casting I can feel it in the shoulder.

Ok. Maybe you are after all! LOL Just kidding, we all got our own methods. The only thing that matters is if we catch fish!

Just over 5lbs (Largemouth) on a T-Rigged green pumpkin 3" Senko.
It was at a crowded park lake in Va. My arm was tired from slinging spinnerbaits and inlines so I tied on the Senko, relaxed, and caught my PB bass
This was about 10 years ago, but I remember it like it was last week.
Ok, se we have established that:
RAUL HATES SOFT PLASTICS AND JIGS
Now, we establish that not only Raul hates soft plastics and jigs but also, within the universe of soft plastics Raul also has some particular preferences, out of all soft plastics:
THE SOFT PLASTIC RAUL HATES THE MOST IS THE SENKO !!!!
So, Raul hates soft plastics, out of all the soft plastics the most hated by Raul is the senko,
Raul goes to fish and determines that given the conditions and the location has to pick a friggin´ soft plastic, out of all his soft plastics he specifically picks a goddam senko and ......catches this:

6.5# on a snag proof frog. It was about 10 years ago too. I love the frog, it seems to discourage dinks. I've caught several bass in that range, but none bigger. But I fish a place now that has bigger bass in it. So a PB is always my goal.
Good deal the reel ess
