I was going to buy that new koppers frog becasue it looks great. However, before I pulled the plug, I remember that every expensive frog I have purchased (Snag Proof, Spro, Tru Tunsgten) have their tails get all sticky and messed up by the end of the year. So when I placed my order with BPS, bought the cheap kermit frog for $5
Heard those Kermits get waterlogged easily
I bought 1 Kermit to try out, that will be the Last one I buy. Stick with the brand names.
Next 'big' purchase for me is gonna be three of those Kopper's Frogs. They look so beautiful, it makes me want to bite one.
So you hate catching fish as well as spending money?
So silly...I have a River2Sea that is a bass magnet.
This will be year three. I'm sure some other quality
frogs are a " better value" over time than a Kermit.
Try the Rage Tail Toad and report back.
8-)
I am not hoping for much from the BPS frog, but don't mind spending $5 every year on a frog or two. I generally use the spro frogs in three colors, plus I like the regular popper frogs they have too. Every year the skirts go to crap. I am spending at least $30-40 annually on frogs.

funny, i paid around $5 for my snag proof frog at walmart...it wasnt marked as on sale either...
never had the tail sticky problem with a frog either. maybe youre not storing them properly or something...
cwen I think it may be something your doing? Are you storring your frogs with worms or other soft plastics? sometimes just being in the same box can have a reaction? Are you putting scent on them? Maybe you can wash the skirt leggs in dish soap to make them not sticky anymore? Scine this has happened to you with several different brands I am guessing its not the frogs themselfs. However I sometimes wrong so it could just be the frogs ;D
Frogs go in just the frog box. 90% of the frogs in there are spro frogs.
Well then Ok you got me! ha ha
Never had a problem with Scum or Spro. Haven't had Koppers long enough to know. Koppers does seem to take on water quicker than Spro.
I know why it sticks. Always happened to me too utnil i found out why. Keep it in the shade and away from the sun. Ever since then it stopped sticking to eachother. Weird i know but it works.
I hear ya, I hate it when after only 60 big bass my Spro Frog is so trashed that I have to replace it with a new one. That just sucks.

I sea what you did there.
Love Spro frogs!
I usually have to replace all my skirt legged frogs every spring. I just assumed it was from the scant I smear on them all summer long.

The "legs" are rubber, don't leave them in the sun, its just like rubber skirted jigs or spinnerbaits, the sun heats up the rubber and they stick together and deform.

I know Gene, it sucks. We would probably do better if we switched to Snag Proof or Koppers.
Cwen, try keepin them out of the sunlight all day. Makes the rubber legs break down and either dry out, or just straight melt. That should stop your problem.
I think they just degrade, maybe from oxidation?
Cwen, cheap frogs have cheap hooks, several years ago I purchased a couple of Mann 's frogs and when they arrived I simply had to replace the hooks, man them hooks on them frogs were the lousiest, dullest hooks I 've ever seen, so after changing the hooks for good ones btween cost of hooks, shipping and handling n 'stuff I eneded up with a pretty darn expensive couple of frogs, should have purchased good 'uns in the first place. So why not purchase good quality frogs and some spinnerbait skirt replacements when you do it ? the skirt legs farts after a year ---> all you do is replace them.

I bought one of these and am afraid the legs will get ripped off easily. What has your experience been?
If you spray the legs down with some "reel magic" they wont melt. Ive been doing this for three or four years and no longer have issues. It will pay for itself soon enough.
Like Jfrancho, I dont necessarily think it all can be blamed on the heat. I had a swamy donkey a few years ago start turning white (oxidation?) and eventually melted.
Spend a few bucks more and get Bully WA frogs, you wont regret it.
I just order the River2Sea Diver Frog. Hope it works well.

Why, do the skirted legs last forever? In my experience, the legs get fried, no matter the brand or the price. I just figure its the cost of frogging.
i have never had any problems with my spro frogs..
I have Spro, River2sea, Koppers etc.... but I like the BPS Kermy. It's Cheap, really soft and works. I actually had a better hook up: Blow up ratio on it than any other frog.
Nothing could be worse than the Tru-Tungsten frog... but we dont have to worry about those any more.

Why is the Tru Tungsten Frog so bad? Not questioning your knowledge, just questioning the comment? I've never used them and bought a few before they sold out at Dick's. Since I have them I'll use them, but would like to hear what there is to say about them. I like Spro Frogs pretty good. Wouldn't mind trying the Phat Frog either.
I've been addicted to frog fishing for about six years now and while I've had good luck with the Spro and other expensive frogs, I can generally catch 2 or 3 times as many fish on the lowly poppin scum frogs as any other frog I've tried. It isn't just smaller fish due to the diminutive size of the bait either. I just flat out get more hits and better hookup percentages. About the only drawback would be that they are light so long casts aren't as feasible. Plus, I can buy 3 of them and a bottle of Mountain Dew for the price of a single Spro. They are pretty soft but I've found them to hold up pretty darn well considering. I usually can catch dozens of fish (if not 50+) before they will start to tear where the hook enters the front of the bait. A little super glue will fix it but they are so cheap I usually don't even bother.

There's a lot of "stuff" inside that interferes with the hook's bite.
Here's your solution...

My favorite hollow frog.
I use both the spro frogs and the tru tungsten frogs. They are both good frogs, but if i were to choose one it would be the spro. When storing the frog, keep it out of the sunlight. Also, only store them in frog only containers. Another tip, after you are done fishing for the day, dip the legs of the frog in the water to 1. let them cool 2. clean them off. Sometimes scum will effect how the skirt melts.
My hookup ratio for frogs is about 80% and all I do is wait about a second and a half to two seconds. I do not change the hooks out of spros. After you catch a bunch of fish on one bait, spros become waterlogged. Thats normal because of normal wear and tear to the bait. Kermit frogs are similar to spros, but the hooks arent as high quality and the bait requires a little more tuning out of the box to walk than the spro. I also think that the bodies are tougher than the spros and the mad-max, so hook up percentages might be lowered.
After using the frog's dry them some what before you put them back into your tackle. Then when completely dry place a bit of baby powder on them, but not allot.Shake and store, for next trip.Keeps from stick-in.
I've never had the legs of any of my frogs get sticky or melt. Some of the Spros were bought when they were first introduced, maybe 4 years ago. I keep them together in a Plano box and sometimes scent them with Megastrike. Keep them cool and dry and you should be fine. A lot of lures will fall apart if you mistreat them, not just frogs.
Tru- tungston frogs have 2rattles scotch-tapped onto the hook inside the body of the frog. It blocks ya from getting a good hooks set.
Just like almost everything else in the fishing market, you get what you pay for..obviously there are exceptions, but when it comes to frogs, you want to get a quality frog that will hold up and be productive at the same time...go with a bully wa, you wont be disappointing
