Can anyone tell me if the Spro 4" BBZ-1 Swimbait is out yet? I heard it was released mid-October but all websites are saying pre-order. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
Yup, and already have some. Woohoo!
Just got 2 from Tackle Warehouse and 2 more off ebay.
Haven't tried as we are strting to get ice here in the Windy City but they look great. Check out video on T.W.'s website.

I tried mine out last weekend while fishing for trout casue I just had to see what it looked like. Man what action, looks like a real fish. I got the slow sink and it sinks real slow and its tough to get it down with any kind of steady retrieve. If you want to get it down you might want to look at the fast sink version. My friend couldnt believe how realistic it looks
They look great but I dont see myself buying one. I think will wait and get a TruTungsten 4in. They have the removable balls so you get two weights for the price of one. And they have an extra hook in the back and the one negative thing I have heard is alot fish slap at the bait and dont get hooked. It looks like the baits are similar in the videos I have seen so I dont think I need to buy both. I do like the colors on the BBZ shad more but not that much.
So I've got the BBZ-1 4" & the Reaction Strike "rEVOLUTION SHAD" 4".
Assessment so far..
Both look awesome in the water, all three models.
The differences are:
1.) BBZ costs twice as much.
2.) The BBZ helicopters when casting the revolution shad doesn't.
Both baits have good colors tho the revolution has more variety and they are suppose to come out with a 5" soon.
Having both, and having a lot of Spro stuff in my boxes, I gotta tell Ya. I'll buy the revolution when I need a replacement. Don't get me wrong, but it's almost 2 for the price of one. Some one else chime in here.
Alot of people don't support Reaction Strike because they copy other designs and claim they don't.
Thanks for the heads up FROG. that does change things a bit.

Spro is no different. Reaction Strike and Spro are not much different when it comes to copies.
I f it's a good bait , who cares if it's copied or not ? If it's cheaper buy it.

thats the way i see it.
i dont care about bait ethics or anything, three qualities determine if i'll buy a bait: good price, good quality, catches fish.

i just checked TW and i saw the BBZ-1 Shad for 19.99, and the Reaction Strike Revolution Shad for 16.99. where are you finding them for half of the price?

Thats the way you have to look at it. Companies copying other baits wont change so you just need to buy what catches fish.

Now I know you're into making baits. You're saying that if you work hard to make something and then someone else just goes and copies it and then sells it for less, which puts you out of business. You woudln't care?
He would care if it was his livelyhood and he couldnt pay his bills becuase his market was taken from him by some company copying his design and selling it for half the price.
Just so you guys know, the original design of this type of bait was the kick tail. all 3 of these baits are "inspired" from the kick tail design.
The kick tail had a durability issue with its joints and the colors werent very good. It also never lived up to the hype in its ads.It never realy made it. I think all 3 of these "new" baits are improvements as far as durabilty and cosmetics.

So, how would you feel if you came up a with a original bait, and I come along and copy it and sell it and my bait out sells yours. Wouldn't feel very good would it? Usually the rip-offs either don't swim correctly, or fall apart easily. Everyone has their own opinion though, and I must respect that.
Durability...
The Reaction bait came apart at the joint after a day of fishing. >
maybe a lemon, but then again, you get what you pay for I guess.

I would be more than happy to send you a BBZ-1 Shad, and as our member SLO-ROLL says, you can try and tear it "smooth up"
The BBZ swims perfectly, has a tough paint job, and when you get one, be the judge on if it falls apart ;D

I had four Spro BBZ shads and three of the four have lost the tail section. Two on the first day I used them and one fell off on the deck before it ever hit the water. I am betting the Tru-Tungsten bait will be the better of the three.
That is weird. I had two and neither of them had any problems.
Thad and FROG,
like matt said, i would definitley care if i made a living off my baits, but i dont even sell my baits. i've only sold two! sure i'd be a little upset if someone took the idea of one of my baits, but i wouldn't lose sleep over it.
but from a consumer point of view, i really dont care if the bait was copied. just as long as it looks good, is good quality (which it appears the reaction strike isn't) and catches fish.

Matt great example. The fact is if a copy is cheaper then it is probably not the same quality. Fisherman pay for quality thats a fact look at Lucky Craft. People tend to buy originals but there are some copys that are better and cheaper that take away from the original. Look at what the fluke and others did to the sluggo. People prefer the fluke and I dont blame Zoom I blame lunker city for not improving the sluggo. I think the bigger issue why people are buying more reaction strike lures isnt because they are cheaper its because they are more available. If a company like reaction strike gets it together and makes a quality product and at a reasonable price and gets it out there available in tackle stores everywhere watch out. They may not make great baits but they can market look at the pros using reaction strike lures (J.Quinn in Bass Pros, S.Kennedy and Rombanis at Amistad, ect.) I havent used reaction strike lures except for 1 for muskie but they are making a push to be a big player. Fact is if you make a quality product, market it smart, make it available, and have competitive prices you will be fine. I would be more worried about spro they are expanding their swimbait line, copies or not I cant say for sure but they are priced good, are going to be in tacklestores everywhere, and are advertised as well as any swimbait. I love mattlures but I have only seen 1 store that sell them in the 20 or so tacklestores I have been in. I buy the mattlures bluegill but most weekend fisherman in KY dont know the difference, dont use the internet to buy lures, and dont care. If they see a copy at the local store I promise they will buy it instead because its just there. Most people myself included prefer to see something before we buy it. My guess is the established swimbait companies will be fine but they will lose buisness as other big companies make more swimbaits. But west coast companies that expand and get their product out more and market will grow as well. Castaic is a prime example. Personally I want the best product I can afford and if that product can be bought locally all the better.
Ok aside from the falling apart and such - Can anyone tell me if it WORKS to catch Bass. If so a Pic would be awsome. I just got a few (or so im told for Christmas) And am wondering if one should dissapear from under the tree to try out this weekend..... Is it worth being eatten alive by the big fish of the house (Wife)???
It will catch fish. Don't have a photo of one though.
which one does everyone use most? i noticed there are 3 different depths just wondering if the floater, slow sink, or fast sink is the way to go?
If there's crappie perch or bluegill in your lake get a jackall giron- its a 4"er and proven I chucked two of them all summer long- they are very durable catch fish and most importantly very fun to fish with- get sospend strips to play with depth the bait is very balanced and action is not comprimised when weight is added- heck I'm going to weight the front hook and experiment with it deep this upcoming early spring
Fast sink. Its hard to get the others to stay down at all if you want to fish deeper. The baits don't cast very well and the extra weight of the fast sink helps with the cast also.Quotewhich one does everyone use most? i noticed there are 3 different depths just wondering if the floater, slow sink, or fast sink is the way to go?

You might also want to look into getting a Mattlures Hard Bluegill. Sick little bait...
