Hey guys, in another thread, someone brought up scents and attractants. It got me thinking. I normally use Berkley Power Bait. I buy the bottles from wal mart. In the past I have applied a small amount in a new bag of plastics, and I normally put it straight on to the jig or plastics. But it's not something that I have put an awful lot of thought into. And I haven't really ever put it on hard baits or spinner baits. So my questions are as follows.
What is your opinion on attractants or scents?
What do you use or recommend?
How do you apply it? Straight to lure or in a bag of plastics?
Do you use it for Hardbaits?
I personally haven't used anything outside of power bait or the spike.
I have been a BIG fan of MegaStike since it was first introduced.
Although we call it an "attractant", I don't think that is the case.
Two attributes are what I consider important: (1) Helps bass hold
the bait longer, especially soft plastics and (2) luricates both soft
plastics and hard baits. This second feature improves hook-ups
and to some extent, movement through the weeds.

This answers a question I've been dying to ask, you basically can put it on everything not just plastic. I have a tube of that coming this week, Spring can't get here soon enough!! Thanks for your insight.
Why wait for spring time. Fish are still hungry during the winter.
I'm too fat to ice fish.

Lol. In in NC. I keep forgetting that a lot of you guys live in freezing climates.

x2!
Jeff
Never use it myself unless the bait comes already scented.
Its good for the fish to keep a hold of the bait longer for the scent part. If its also a dye, like chartreuse, its a good visual aspect too.
Come watch one of our demos that we do at sport shows - We demonstarte at the Hawg Trough - It will convice you about Mega
Hey Speed - If things are slow during winter I seen on line that they are looking for stunt doubles and extras on that new show Amish mafia-- OH SNAP
I wasn't a fan of scent sprays or jellys until i tried megastrike. I first used it pitching jigs for walleye on wingdams and have used it now for bass plastics. The stuff does work.
Through saltwater fishing I have been introduced to a scent called Smelly Jelly. It comes in many different scents like shrimp, crawfish, baitfish, and sand shrimp. I highly reccommend this for freshwater and saltwater anglers.

CLOP, CLOP, CLOP, BANG.
Amish drive by. Dont mess with the black hats and bonnets.
Im done with them - I have to relook but I dont believe they pay taxes- Ive been to lancaster many times and they sure as heck dont mind takinhg my money
Ive been wanting to try Megastrike. Which one do you guys favor? Original, garlic, craw, etc.
Im still an original fan- Nothing like the smell of Mega first thing in the morning-
I have had good success with the Garlic on some waters, however like Bobby, Original seems to work the best for me.
I like the craw on jigs, Original or garlic on everthing else.
I was at ICAST about five years ago witha guy from Yamamoto and people in the audiance watching a demo I was doing in a bass tank. I put it on a pebble and dropped it in the tank A bass found that pebble on the bottom and ate it..
I'm a fan of putting some "stank" on my baits.
I have used Carolina Lunker Sauce in the Crawlic sent (flavor?) for years. Some time ago I got a tube of Megastrike. I've had success with both.
I like the CLS because it stinks to high heaven and is easily dispensed.
However, I've found that the sent of Megastrike stays with the bait longer.
Megastrike also has a lubricating quality that helps baits slide through cover.
I have had some instances where MS might have been too slick causing skirts, rattles, eyes and keeper barb collars to slide off. Could be the baits and hooks but just to be safe I've invested in a bigger tube of fishing glue.
I've never really dabbled into adding scents but I had to place an order for some grease through TW, so I grabbed a bottle of JJ's in the clear. I like my plastics to maintain the colors I buy so I wasn't interested in the dye. I'm going to give it a try this weekend and see if this really is "magic" or not.
I got skunked today! I'm ordering Megastrike and their shaky heads tonight to make myself feel better!
Original Megastrike for me. I put it on every thing that does not already have scent, like Zoom, GYCB, and Reaction Inovations plastics. Stuff like Berkley power bait and gulp, Netbait, and the SK coffee scented stuff I don't add it to.

Yep. Put MegaStrike on everything, even spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits and jigs.
Geaux Tigers!
One of my older fishing mentors always puts his soft plastics in a zip loc bag with bacon the day before he uses them,he does catch bass often but is it the bacon or all his experience ?
I got a few jars of smelly jelly for Xmas. Anyone use it? I know it stinks pretty bad.
My buddy always uses smelly jelly for jig fishing. He always does well. He has also been fishing for over 30 years.
Outside of whatever scent may come with plastics I buy I only tend to use Berkeley's craw scent on jigs. I don't notice any real improvement in hits.
Megastrike is an awesome product.
original megastrike for me as well. I love it for the lubrication of my jigs when working through vegetation. I never throw a bait without megastrike on it.
Who sells MegaStrike in south Florida? Or is it only available online from the MegaStrike site?
tackle warehouse has it. I have seen it at Dicks, if you have a Dicks near you.
Hmmm Every guy here has a oh forget it
This is the year I try out Megastrike. I've been on the fence regarding the efficacy of scents. I catch far more more fish on unscented lures (Havok, GYCB, Sweet Beavers and Zoom) than I do on the ones that are scented (Yum, Powerbait, Bass Assassin etc). I'm eager to see if Megastrike knocks me off the ol' fence.... For under ten bucks, and given the amount of other crazy fishing junk I spend my money on, it seems foolish not to give it a try.
never seen at my dicks.........wonder if it would make her hold on longer?
I bought a pack Spike It scented markers. I've dressed up some of my soft plastics just messing around and I made some nice perch swimbaits with my left over money minnows. I love being able to put my own personal touch on any of my baits. Now I just can't wait till the waters warm up.
But WOW those things knock you on your can with an explosion of garlic when you take the cap off and it definately holds the smell on the bait.

I feel the same. I placed my order for the original and some shaky heads.
We were at the Garden State Outdoor Show this weekend. I wish you guys were there- Again those bass were very stubborn. Did get them to hit shakey head worms with the goo on it. The bass held the baits and swam around the tank til we shook them off . As soon as seminars were over our booth was packed.
Did you film the event?
