I've just started using the Bang Pure Craw in the aeresol can.
Main reason is it's so easy to apply. I have some megastrike and others, but they are all messy and hard to deal with compared to the spray can.
The Bang product sure smells like the real thing, and I understnad it's real oil from crawfih that have been rendered down (cooked).
Scents? what do you use??
None
I have a whole list
Crossbow garlic, craw,
Yum craw and shad
Lure craft shad and craw
Bang garlic and craw
The one I'm most eager to use is the Mega strike I just got. I cant wait.
I have used Powerbait, Nitro, and Bang.
Have not noticed any increase in fish catching. It becomes more of a desperation thing when nothign else is working. Maybe I should try it when the fish are more active...
I am hoping to find some Megastrike in the mail, however.

In all the time I've been fishing, nobody in the boat has ever out fished me simply because they sprayed scent on their plastics. I even got into it myself for several years - - - never seemed to make any difference.
The closest thing to a real world test I've ever heard of was when Ralph Manns fished an area with fish cruising through it for quite sometime - - alternatively casting scentless plastics and unscented plastics, and those results ended up being nearly even.
Nevertheless - I'm sure it can't hurt anything.
The MegaStrike advantage:
1. User friendly. This product has a consistancy slightly lighter than Vasoline. The dispenser is clean and does not spray or spill. Applications "stick" to baits and lures, they do NOT drip and the product does NOT stain cloth or carpet.
2. The best attribute, to me, is the "slime factor." Whether the scent tastes good to a fish or not, I do not know, BUT...it doesn't taste BAD! Fish may hold a bait a little longer and lures tend to slide in the mouth. Mattlure's has suggested this product for improving the hook-up ratio with swimbaits.
3. MegaStrike lasts for a long time because you only need to use a little at a time and it never gets old.

x2. I don't think scents make a difference, period.

nitrogrease for slippin' up swimbaits. but i just got some megastrike so that'll be taking over. I havnt found it to actually increase the hit ratio however. smelly jellly craw for my creature baits, but its so messy i never use it anymore.

Megastrike -WM
I am using yum shad, but i haven't caught anything when i spray my lure in it. Right now i have some wroms in a zip lock bag with minced garlic mixed in. Going fishing in the morning I hope the garlic works.
Dogs can detect odor that is FAR beyond human perception, yet some odors that are offensive to humans, are not to dogs.
Bass are sight-feeders, and their absence of chin-barbels is evidence that they lack an acute sense-of-smell.
After a liberal application of commercial scent, assuming that a bass smells anything at all,
it may be totally unrelated to the applied scent and to the angler's intended illusion.

they dont seen to change a lot for me, not that I catch enough fish for a formal study, I use the Chart Spike It Garlic dip for worm tips and skirts and such

Who could of said it better then RoLo. 8-)
I use attractants because I fish in grass a lot and the attractant helps my plastic baits slide through easier. I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added; this is to mast any odor my plastic may have pick up.
Look out! There's a Berkley GULP Spray out there NOW!!!
I started using Chartruse Garlic Spike IT where it matched the plastic color this year. Several outing ago 4 of us all using watermelon red baby brush hogs and I was the only one with spike it. I caught 9 to 3 to 3 to 4 in a 2 1/2 hour period. I was on the front of my boat so had a litltle advantage maybe, but not 3 to 1. That being said I hate scrubbing the chartruse die off my boat. I have mega strike coming, and I now am a *** brush baby user, Brent says I don't need the spike it anymore.
GO BIG RED
I use it for 2 reason makes it slippery and i think it MASK,s offensive smells .But like with lures, rods, reels and line if u feel confident using it by all means use it
I use Megastrike and Frog Hog.Frog Hog is a better attractant, but Megastrike stays on longer and is a better lubricant.

I put Megastrike on all soft plastics and poured swimbaits.
Jack's Juice
Mattlures, recommends an attractant with a consistancy like that of megastrike.
Specifically due to the slipperiness it adds to the bait. His own experiments, and I'm guessing some shared experience with the Cali monster hunters, indicate that the hookset is easier with the bait greased up with scent. also it keeps the plastic moist and pliable. Those swimbaits are expensive. So keeping them fresh and in good health means dollars saved.
I have used some of the soft plastics with scent added, but I have never bought scent to add to baits.
well for live bait i use baitmate classic bass and ive had nearly everything hit that
for my lures ive used lunker sauce thredfin shad. but ive been thinking of the baitmate live and mega strike not sure how they work what i really want is the mustads ultrabite.

i havent used the mustad ultrabite yet i cant find it in my area
I have started using carolina lunker sauce. I think it is a confidence thing
I have tried to use scents. I just never saw where they made a difference. By the way, what the he** is a Blur Gill ??? I mean my spelling is not that great but, some of the post lately have been insane with the spelling. If some of the young guys in here, by the time they are in 10th grade, spell like some I have seen, I am not understanding the education system. Please young guys, at least make a attempt at some of your spelling. When you go to college, the prof's are going to eat you guys for breakfast. Just trying to help.
what species of fish is a blur gill? never heard of it ;D ;D could he have ment blue gill?

ive used carolina lunker sauce and had no producers as of yet in the last 3 outtings but ive had producers on the baitmate classic bass the only thing i dont like about the baitmate is its an oil base i havent used the baitmate live as of yet which is made for lures im told
I'm a believer in scents. Just my personal experience, but to me, it makes sense. I think anything that helps the fish locate your bait can't hurt. Without scent, the fish have basically two ways of finding your bait: seeing it or feeling it. If they can smell it too, they may follow their nose to the food source. I use Crossbow's oil based garlic scent and definitely have seen the difference it makes. The first time I used it, my wife and I were fishing & both were using Fat Ika's, one with scent, one without. The bait with the scent got 2 fish in the boat before the unscented bait got a bite. I also use Megastrike on my soft plastic swimbaits when ocean surf fishing and feel I get more fish chasing my lure because they can smell it.

Really the only way they bass have to find the bait is sight it's only after seeing it that they will inhale it for a taste and if then it dosen't feel right to them then they spit it out. Also another misconception is that a bass can follow a scent trail through the water. alot of people assume that a bass is like a beagle and can track down it's prey simply by smelling. With all the different currents and other natural scents flowing through the water your scent goes in all directions. If you were fishing a cove for a period of a hour or more then it might help. But bass use there sight more than anything and when a bass catches wind of a certain smell it only puts it on alert for possable prey, not make it track it down as so many beleve
Interesting; how do bass find my worm at night when they can't see it?
QuoteInteresting; how do bass find my worm at night when they can't see it?
Bass have night vision! ;D
They find your worm because they do see it. They also use their lateral lines.
Scent or no scent, bass will eat a worm at night.
My favorite by far is mega strike
What about the idea of using scent for a more convincing bite, after they go for it, just like a burger, wouldnt they smell the scent more intensely when the worm is close to their mouth, maybe they would hold on longer once they decided to hit it...
