Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone knows about some super-realistic baits. I just did a huge TW order, and picked up some Mann's Hardnose Snakes. I'm interested to see if anyone knows of any super-realistic baits, as I'm looking to pick some new ones up. Thanks,
Drew
P.S. ~ If anyone is interested, I have a TON of old tackle for sale. PM me and you can have my phone number to text me
Mattlures
The most realistic lures are well tied flies. Google Fred G Hannie flies and you'll see what I mean.
Crankbaits with orange bottoms.
Don't get rid of the older lures. I rotate my lures often. I bring back the older ones that I know still work and put the newer ones sidelined on the bench. Everyone still catches fish.
Huddleston makes the most realistic crawfish (in my opinion) called Huddbugs.
And if you have stuff for sale put it in the flea market post pics and prices, or if you're willing to trade put what you would be willing to trade for.
Live Target.
Some of the frogs they make today are pretty darn realistic. Lots of high end swimbaits, like the Mattlures mentioned above, are highly realistic in all aspects.
3:16 Lures has some pretty cool frogs.

Those flies take the cake

I'll put it up on the flea market later this week. PM me and I'll tell you what I have and how much, if you want and I could probably trade
the Savage gear line thru trout has impressed me
tight lines

The top of the frog catch's the fisherman the bottom is the only thing the bass see!

That's false, if you watch Dave mercers show they showed a fish eye view of what it looks like. You could see some of the top and all of the side.

Did they ask a real fish what they see to get the "fish eye" view?
Mattlures, Hinkle and Randall K make the most realistic lures I've had my hands on.
3:16 no bull frog for me as well.
Most fun lure I have ever fished.
Tubes....
Well they kinda stuck a camera where a fish would be and would be looking if there was a commotion. Do all of you're realistic swimbaits look like fish in the water ?On 4/13/2015 at 9:13 PM, SPEEDBEAD. said:Did they ask a real fish what they see to get the "fish eye" view?

Frogs, sankos and jerk baits are great.

It's great to keep old lures! There good backups and when you need it most you won't have it if you get rid of them.On 4/13/2015 at 3:31 AM, FrogTastic said:Hey all,

There a whole gaggle of plastic baits out there and nearly all of them are really lifelike. A plastic lizard with a shaky head is a good example. Plastics catch bass just as good as anything else that is intensely lifelike... and without breaking the bank.
Savage Gear's entire 3D line is a 3D scan of actual living creatures!

The customs can get pretty ridiculous...

I actually wanted to trade old lures for other old ones.
Savage gear makes some very realistic swimbaits and soft plastics at reasonable prices and they strive to make them durable!

What the!!!! That thing is crazy. Shoot on tough days I would be thrilled to catch even one that size, let alone use it as bait.
Few things are more realistic than a good, natural colored plastic on a dropshot rig

Yep! And swimbaits are more of a reaction bait. On a sunny day there is no way a bass can see the color side of a frog and then add wind speed. Most frogs are fished in slop or heavy weeds. I do fish a frog in open water alot but I still do not beleave that they see the color of the frog's side. The bottom of a frog I think they may see color. Most of the time I think they see a dark profile!
Swimbaits a reaction bait. Yeah, sometimes. Mostly not, that's why they're so realistic looking.

How do you know did you ask the fish ? And no a swimbait isn't a reaction bait, you should really learn that just because it's hard dosent me its a reaction bait.

I seen that on FB a couple of days ago, I think. That thing is crazy. Anyone know who made it?

You can make an argument that glides are reaction baits imho. Just like how you want a realistic jerkbaits with FC on clear pressured water; you are still invoking their sense to feed, by letting the fish have a good long look at it, and then making that twitch.

I see where you're coming from, but some swim baits are definitely reaction baits. Burning a TT through grass is just one example

Agreed. Dropping one of these natural colored bad boys on dropshot has to be THE best goby imitating lure - without getting too detailed.

A TT? And that's is one out of quite a few.
I see glides as a dying fish more. But yes it could be used in that sense, that being said we don't know what the bass are thinking. On 4/16/2015 at 5:22 AM, IAY said:You can make an argument that glides are reaction baits imho. And we don't know what a bass does see or what colors they see!!

AGREED!!!!
Every animal's brain recognizes patterns. Pretty sure they are just recognizing the bait as something in distress, therefore being an easy target.

LOL, that was the point of my original statement when I quoted this:

The Jackall Gantarel's are pretty realistic/amazing looking to me.

While a frog can be a reaction bait if you're throwing it within, say, 5 or 6 feet of a school. But throwing it further means it helps to be realistic. If I'm burning in a frog in open water, or even in cover, I like it to be a pretty realistic color, because after reeling it a bit, I'm gonna stop and let the bass swim up to it. In that time, if they register that it's not a frog, they may not strike. Then again, I like some crazy colors for reaction strikes.
You got me. I was wrong you were right. On 4/16/2015 at 9:02 PM, SPEEDBEAD. said:LOL, that was the point of my original statement when I quoted this:

What even ? Distance has nothing to do with reaction or not. Throwing it further helps realism ? Where have you found these studies? You like a natural color on the pause, for a reaction strike ? Or do you like crazy colors for a reaction strike ? A reaction strike has very little to do with the color you are using. Because you want the fish to react at the motion of the lure.On 4/17/2015 at 7:45 AM, FrogTastic said:While a frog can be a reaction bait if you're throwing it within, say, 5 or 6 feet of a school. Very few of my swimbait bites are what I'd call a reaction bite. doesn't mean that the bites aren't violent
It's awesome what you see the shadow, and it finally commits.

Let me rephrase that - throwing it further than 6 feet away from cover. I like a bright flashy color for a reaction strike, so it catches their eye and gets em mad. But it's mostly personal preference. That being said, I definitely prefer a more realistic color when I'm throwing in clear water, open water, anywhere new; basically anywhere I'm not looking to throw a bait right on top of the fish.
