I placed an order on 4/11 with BPS. Did it online as I could not get through on the phone due to 'staffing problems'.
Got an email about an hour after I placed my order telling me that a couple of items that were listed as being in stock were instead on backorder (strike 1).
Checked my BPS account on 4/16, showed the order as being shipped. Waited and waited this week, no order.
Starting to panic as I need most of the stuff for my Varner trip next weekend.
Just got an email from BPS saying that my order shipped TODAY!!!! > (strike 2)
It takes 7-8 business days to throw a few bags of worms and chunks in a box, slap a shipping label on it, and throw it in a truck?
I do believe I've placed my last order with BPS. It just isn't worth it. Not when I can place an order with Tackle Warehouse on Monday morning and have it by Friday (and I live all the way across the country). Cabelas usually has my orders to me within a week.
Throw in their (rapidly becoming) terrible website (strike 3) and it all adds up to a very dissatified customer.
I've got a BPS about 2 hours away, I guess I'll just have to go there when I need something that Cabelas or TW doesn't have.
I'm with you burley, I WILL NOT spend my money there.
i third that burley, bps has been horrible, stinks though i really like them too its just not worth the aggrevation, ebay is even faster lol
The sad thing is that it hasn't always been this way. I've been ordering from BPS since 1989. Worked all winter doing odd jobs, saved up enough money and ordered a tent and frame backpack.
Since then I've spent God only knows how much money with them. Only in the last 6 months has the service gotten this bad.
Bad enough that they charged me $12 for shipping via USPS Parcel Post. I'll be lucky to have it by Friday.
I'm just in a very very ticked off mood.
I used to save up my yard mowing money and spend it there. I have been shopping with them for over 20 years and I, too have only recently noticed a dowturn in service. I hope they get their act together soon. Maybe they have gotten too big for their britches? Is Johnny Morris still running the show or has he sold out and/or turned it over to someone else?
I agree with you guys. As of late their service has been slow, they've had web page issues, and often they don't have items in stock. I think it's HILARIOUS that I get stuff faster from Japan than from BPS!
well this just sucks...i recently got a BPS gift card and was about to use it in the next few days and now this. i guess i will just have to give it a try an ....well if it doesnt go well...then and and i almost forgot
I'll agree with others on slow, poor service. For instance, if you place an order on a Monday and have standard UPS shipping, you can go online on the following Friday and see that the order is still in the processing stage. And I'm surprised at the small selection of lures & colors for any of the big brand names that they sell in the catalog. I like Lucky Craft lures and BPS's Lucky Craft line has very limited selection of lures & colors in their catalog. I can go online to Northern Bass and they carry all of the Lucky Craft lures & colors. If a small store (compared to BPS) can carry the entire Lucky Craft inventory, I don't understand why BPS has such a small selection and even smaller color options for Lucky Craft in their catalog. When you look in the BPS catalog, BPS seems more interested in showing & selling their boats and telling you about all of their stores than really making sure that they are the best at selling a huge selection of lures by the top manufactureers that people are looking for. I'll give you an example of BPS limitations. I like the Rick Clunn 2.5's and 3.5's. BPS advertised both of the Rick Clunn lures on sale starting in their Spring Classic. Well I wanted to get some. I went to their store during the Spring Classic, not in stock...they don't know when they will be getting them in. So I called the BPS catalog while I was still in their store because the catalog also had these same lures on sale. The catalog stated they had none in stock & thought it would be at least a month or maybe more before they would be in stock. Plus the catalog said they wouldn't give me a rain check or honor the sale price once they were in stock. Well the BPS floor manager seemed surprised after he got on the phone with the catalog operator. The floor manager then told me he would give me a raincheck, keep an eye on when the lures did come in and would ship them to me at no charge. I thought that was really nice since I live 60 miles from the store. By the way, it's been a month and a half and guess what? BPS has no idea when the RC's will be in. Now if you were spending the money on advertising for the BPS Spring Classic, wouldn't you think you would make sure that those items were actually available both at the store and in their catalog?
UUHHH??????? My girlfriend ordered a rod for me last Sun and i got it Thurs I am not feelin this 8-)
I wish BPS would go public. Responsibility to shareholders and customers might serve a great benefit.
Ordered some stuff on 9th and got it on the 19th. Then open the box to read that half the stuff i ordered was on backorder. Never got an email or anything. PLus they sent the box, that had to be crammed into the mailbox by Post office employee.
Also got stuff in the mail around Xmas about everything they had on sale at the store 50 miles from here.
Get to the store and they have nothing on sale. Tried online and called the catalog, they played dumb just like the store. So i am only buying from there when I absolutely have to.

Same thing here. I put in a order on last friday and it came on wendsday. Thats like what, 4 bussines days?
Yeah their site is having some tec problems and they are always late marking items out-of-stock, but as far as shipping goes they have always been good for me. And I don't mind if my 1000yrds of Hybrid is backordered as long as I get it for 7 bucks!
They are probably shipping from the BPS that is down the street from where you live Muddy. ;D

I'm with you Redline! I've had BPS take up to a month to get me a TINY order that was all in stock. Conversely, I had a package get to me from Japan in TWO DAYS!!! I still don't know how it got here so quick!
I ordered a new Minn Kota fron Bps two weeks ago,I odered on a Saturaday I checked my account the next Monday and it said it shipped form Sprinfeild, Mo. I recieved it that Wednesday morning, and I live in Southeastern, NC.
my last order with them was smooth. I just ordered a new rod and reel and a spinnerbait from them on the 19th. They told me it shipped on the 20th. Ill let you know how it goes. I havent really had any problems with them.
Bottom line here IT FISHING EQUIPMENT. If you want it overnight fork up the dinero and it gets to you overnight. It is not like a prescription or a heart valve. I know when I order over the net they dont have some guy sayin OH THIS IS MUDDY"S ORDER OF HOOKS AND VRIOUS FISHING STUFF WE HAD BETTER GET IT OUT ITS FISHING STUFF FELLAS and if you want to get it overnight they have a place you check for overnight and you pay the extra and you get it GEEZZZ!!!!
Keep in mind that your not the only one logged on to buy the same item as other buyes are looking to buy as well by the time you pull the trigger the item may be out. *** updates in real time but you have to back out of the screen to get the update I don't think BPS does that I have been bit from time to time that an in stock item was put on Backorder but then agian I can't verify how many others were buying the same item but for the most part I'm happy with BPS.
I have not had any problems. I ordered a toho-livewell on Monday and received it on a Friday.
I agree on the shipping. I ordered an aerator for a livewell that I NEEDED for a weekend tourney and it came literally just in time and that was 2 day shipping and I ordered it monday! It came friday afternoon. didnt think itd make it, and i felt ripped off with the 2 day shipping, but it did come intime.
I have no problem paying for quicker shipping when needed. But one would think that a 2.5 week lead time would be sufficient for a small order.
It certainly has been with previous orders from BPS.
Orders from Cabelas (standard shipping) usually take about 5 days to get here. Tackle Warehouse is about the same and they are in California.
BPS seems to have purposely slowed the shipment of ground orders.
And while I'm on the subject of shipping, why is that FedEx 2 day air from Tackle Warehouse is only around $13 (on a $150 order including a 7'11 rod) while standard ground from BPS on a $100 order (just baits) is $12?
Over the last year BPS shipping has gotten slower and slower for me while Cabelas has actually gotten a little quicker. At least Cabelas gets your order out in a timely fashion.
As far as I'm concerned, there is absolutely no reason for BPS to delay the shipment of a small order for 8 business days. If they anticipated a delay, they should certainly inform the customer that there will be a shipping delay before they finalize the order.
I'm going to call them tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind.
I haven't had any problems with BPS. I got a trolling motor and some miscellaneous stuff last month and it arrived within 5 bus days. Then a smaller order last week of just some spot removers and some other small things got here is 4 days. Guess I've just been lucky.

I ordered a jacket from BPS a couple of months ago. I ordered the size that I normally wear, but it was too small. I returned it at my expense & requested the next size up. I received the order about 2 and a half weeks later, & it was the same jacket that I had returned. There was a distinct mark on the tag. So, I know it was the same one. I called and was told I would have to pay return shipping again ($8.00), but it would be credited to my debit card when they received the jacket. I still have the jacket over a month later. I plan to go to the local BPS the end of the month, & I'll return the jacket then. I just refuse to pay shipping again on their mistake.
I don't have problems with the bps service. I never order anything that has the asterisk warning that the item is low stock. I always check the "do not backorder out of stock merchandise" on the web order form. It is rare that they don't have my stuff in stock.
They are slow, that's for sure, but there is nothing new about that.
My big complaint with them is that don't carry much that is out of the ordinary. None of the big name Cali swimbaits, none of the japanese cool stuff except lucky craft.
but,,,,,,,,,,, I do like the reward points. I usually buy myself a type of bait or color that I would like to try but probably wouldn't pay for.
You guys are remembering to use the BPS link through Bass Resource arent you? Every order helps support Glenns site.
Thanks for the heads up guys. On the site locator its says a store was supposed to open near me in 2005 yet it still says the store is a "future store" when I click on it.
Alex

oddly, when I go through the link from here...the BPS website doesn't work properly.
Order just arrived. I guess there is a lag in their email system.
They need to get some new people in their IT department. :-/
I was going to start a thread here with my mistake service with BPS,but as a rule I would rather not air dirty laundry in public....but!!! I placed an order by phone and was told that shipping was a bit backed up(that's fine, I understand) it took them 8 working days to get the order out of there doors, then 9 days to get to my door, and on top of that one can not track the package with the USPS system that they are using.I have a small business and ship cross country in 2-3 days the folks I ship too can track the package door to door, and, this is USPS. I will also add that the ladies that I spoke to were as helpfull as they could be, not knowing what is going on in the shipping dept. etc....Alan
Everything I've ordered from BPS has arrived within a week, despite warnings from them that certain orders may be delayed. As far as BPS is concerned, I'm a happy camper.
Maybe my case is different but I wanted to buy a new Loomis and they didn't have it at my local BPS. So the guy I was talking to took the rod info down and and my name and number and ordered the rod for me and when it came in 3 days later they called and I had my new rod. I haven't had any problems with them
What Avid said is what I was trying to say earlier. Again if it's not your standard Rapala, Norman, etc., BPS just doesn't stock much. I can understand that their stores have only so much floor space. But their catalog is so behind the times. Tackle Warehouse, Northern Bass, another site, they all have a larger (if not complete) inventory of lures & colors. I just don't get it.
now thats service KYBASS. This was at your local BPS? I'll have to ask my store if they can do that!
Personally I have had nothing but good from BPS. They have even exchanged things for me AFTER the exchange period had ended. Generally orders take just 2 days to arrive. Ive been more than happy with them. Yesterday I found a Mom& Pop b&t here in town that is unbelievable. Loaded with good stuff. I thought I had died and gone to fishing heaven!
Seems like more and more online companies are giving away crappy service......my recent experience with Blackhawk Custom Outfitters was horrible (after 3 months, I finally got my card credited for the items they never had and could never get in the first place).

I've looked at *** quite a bit and they don'thave several things that BPS sells. It has a lot of good stuff but to pretend that we can get anything we want there is just doing BPS wrong.
So what happens when you get their catalog in the mail for internet sales only and can't get on their webpage? :
I got a BPS gift card about a week ago and have been trying to get on their website to browse and so far for the last 3 days haven't been able to. The only way I've been able to get to their main page is through a search engine. Then from there it's nothing. Very frustrating. I'd love to support them and I do have a Master Catalog at home (which I just got last month) but I prefer to shop online. My patience is wearing thing. Might be Cabelas gift cards from now on. :-/
the website issues could be a computer thing...I've never had trouble accessing the site.
I thought about that but I have the same problems on my home and work computer. And for the most part I don't have problems with other sites. It's weird, I talk to some people that have problems and some don't. Maybe it's just a coincidence between the 2 PCs.
Sorry for you guys having problems. I have made about half a dozen orders with them the last 6 months or so - baitmonkey is working me hard - and have been pleased. Some of the shipping times have taken longer than I thought or hoped. Made an order a couple of weeks ago, then noticed they were having a sale on jigs about a week ago. The packages arrived about a day apart. Thought that was odd.....
Don't feel too bad for me. I've a BPS opening about an hr and half to the east and a Cabelas opening about an hr to the south. ;D
About the back order and "late delivery" so far I have never suffered such problems, but how can I order stuff if I constantly get errors while trying to place a friggin order > ? Don 't know I don't understand is wrong with their site but since they supposedly enhanced it 's been hell, can 't place orders and no way I 'm going to place an order by e-mail when I have to give my CC number, so far I 've spent a little bit under a grand in other on-line sources, if I were the manager of BPS I would be kicking them puter guy 's arses fixing the problem all day long because it 's costing the company thousands of dollars in sales that went somewhere else EVERY SINGLE DAY.
I just went through this myself. The problem with BPS shipping is they are shipping all of their packages thru FEDEX to your local post office...Then the Post office delivers them to the customer from there. My local post office missent my package clear across the state. It took them about a week to Iron it all out. Obviously they are doing this to save a buck. BPS was going to resend my package 2 day if my local USPS couldn't get it worked out, so they were very helpful there.

That has been one of my main problems. The site moves and loads at a snail's pace, no matter where I'm accessing it from. I've got 4 MB DSL at home, Bass Pro is one of the few sites that is almost un-viewable.
The order referenced in my original post was placed via the net because of their 'inability' to take my phone call. It took me almost 30 minutes to just enter the catalog numbers and wait for the pages to load.
Then there was the matter of a couple of clearance items that were listed on the clearance page, but would not load.
Unless they have something that I can't get elsewhere, it just isn't worth it.
