Hey guys,
I wanted to give you all a quick heads up. I bought some of the Mattlures shads (unrigged versions) at the bassathon last weekend. Even before seeing them in the water I decided that my preferred method of rigging would be with a 1/2 oz. Revenge baits swimbait heads so I could effectively fish the bait in deep water. http://revengebaits.com/
Now, I haven't caught a bunch of fish on the bait yet since I just got them but I thought you'd all want to know that these baits look awesome in the water! They've got a lot of tail kick and are sure to get eaten by bass everywhere. Check them out! I don't see them on Matt's site yet but they're up on tackle warehouse.

you know they work when, you cant buy them 8-)

Actually today is the release date. Those aren't backorder dates.
You'll probably see them up for sale come tomorrow or monday.
I was lucky enough to get a few of these prior to their release.
they are awesome!!!!!.
If you love the basstrix paddle tail, you will love these as well.
great action, lifelike look, feel and action.
I rig em with a mustad keel weight hook.
Or an owner riggin hook that I put some storm suspend strip wrapped around the hook shank.
Another winner from
the myth,
the legend,
the one and only,
MATTLURES ...............................................
I have only fished them for two days over the top of hydrilla where bass were feeding on shad but I probably caught over thirty fish with most being four and five pounders. I fished them on an Owner rig'n hook with a crimp on weight. I also tried them on a Lucky Strike jighead from Walmart that is made for tubes which worked pretty well also. It let the bait run just a little deeper while all the weight stayed inside the slit in the body hidden. I can't wait to try them on tough to catch bedding fish in the spring. Looks just like a shad in the water.
So can use these w/ a regular hook and swim it without any weight?
You could but its not going to swim straight. It would be kicking along the top on its side with no weight.QuoteSo can use these w/ a regular hook and swim it without any weight?
Now I want some!(monkey says) Darn you guys, bunch of "enablers". :
Thanks guys. TW will get them in a couple days. I just brought the boxes to the post office today.
I recomend using a weighted falcon hook. The 4/0 1/8th or 1/4ounce are perfect.
BTW they are called the Mattlures Minnows not shad, but you guys can call them what ever you want as long as your fishing them.
and NO I would not use them with out weight, unless your splashing them accross the surface, or your going to dropshot.
If you want to swim them they will need the weighted hook or leadhead etc.
Look great. Not too bad on the wallet either.
QuoteLook great. Not too bad on the wallet either.
yeah tell me about it!
it seems apparent that some arent pre-rigged, but are there any that are pre-rigged? will you be making pre rigged ones?
not the minnows. They have a belly slit so a weighted hook will fit up inside and the bait can be rigged weedles and you hardley see any hook. It just looks like a little fish swimming
ok...and they never will be prerigged?
I like the looks of these. Next time I order from tackle warehouse im going to add two of these to my cart along w/ some weighted hooks. They look perfect for a swimbait that will catch quality and quantity too. Looks like a bait I could catch 3's and 4's on but an 8 or 9 might get a look at it and its done. If I hook into more then one of that size ill buy all of them ;D
the minnows will never be pre rigged. They are designed for the fisherman to rig them how ever they want to. I do however recomend a weighted 4/0 falcon hook in 1/8th -1/4th ounce. However you can rig them however you like but if you want to swim them they will need at least an 1/8 ounce of weight.
I had some prototype shad NOT MINNOWS, BUT SHAD that look just like little thredfin shad. I brought some to the bass-a-thon but they were a little rough. Perfectly functional but not perfecty clean. I will be working to get them nice and pretty and then I will oficialy release them. THEY ARE THE SHAD THAT COME PRERIGGED. I am not mentioning this to advertise. I only bring this up to clear up the confusion. There are 2 diferent baits, shads and minnows. The Minnows will NEVER come prerigged and the shad will have the internal leadhead with the belly loop for an added treble hook. Two totaly diferent baits that do not look the same.
Haven't picked up the minnows, yet. But the shad are cool little baits thats for sure! Seems like whenever I go to pick that rod up, its not there, my girlfriend is always throwin it!
I think you could save yourself time if you just posted a pic of the minnow rigged with the falcon hook
Read Randall's post, he shows it the same way I like it rigged but with a difernt hook. It is verry similar though. Here is a pic of how the bait looks rigged with a Falcon 4/0 with a 1/4 ounce weight. Notice how you dont see much hook or weight, its all hidden and the bait is weedless.
omg that bait is sick!!!!
if i get a tw gift card for xmas i will definitley be buying some of those w/ hooks.
i also hope the shads will be near the same price range and not extremely heavy so i can get some of those w/o any additional equip.!
don't want to speak for matt, but the shad is smaller I think, perfect on a worm/jig rod with 10-15lb test. no idea on price, but remember that you will be paying for a high quality hook in every bait, so it might be a little more expensive!
The shad are much more labor and will cost more but not a lot more.
BTW Biz I have not forgotten about you. Eventualy when I have a working proto I will get one to you
Lookin forward to it!
hehehe ....more ammo,....I Love Mattleures!!

This is good to hear....i don't have a swimbait rod.
Looks like after christmas this will be on my list of things i gotta get.
Nice avid.
Matt's Minnows really look realistic in the water. They swim great. Haven't caught anything on one yet but I haven't caught anything but dinks for the last several weeks on anything I've thrown.

ok thats good but the shad arent gonna be so heavy that they require any kind of special equipment are they?
You can fish my gills and bass on a heavy flippin stick you most certainly wont need anything more than a 6'6 medium hvy for the little shad
ok!
Great looking bait can't wait to get some to try out!!
P.S. Thanks Bait Monkey & Mattlures
Just ordered 2 packs, a tad bit pricey for me so I picked up a bottle of Mend-it ;D
I hope for some lunkers =D!
Mattlures, are the minnows going to be sold at Greentop in Virginia. The last time i was there i saw where they sold your lures.
Just got my order in
I didn't realize how soft they would be! now i'm really glad i picked up some mend it!
And this is what make cabin fever so bad. These look awesome. Can't wait to get some..........and use them next spring. LOL
Cabin fever? I have one tied on a rod right now and I heading out in the morning to give it a try.

Exactly what I'm thinking, but knowing the guys at Greentop they will probably place an order soon....
hopefully
I could do that too but it would just make a big THUD! on top of the ice. LOL
I am currently overwhelmed with those stupid minnows! I sent samples to 2 stores and they bought 4 months worth of production before I realy started to produce them so I cant even take orders from other stores right now. I realy like Green top, they are a great account but for now until I get caught up I am not showing any of my stores.
Help is coming soon though!
Green Top rocks. I buy the vast majority of my stuff from them. I'll definately pick some up from them when they get some.

I'm glad to hear your getting such awesome business. But I'm currently only in possession of one of your ultimate bluegills. I definitely am going to buy some of those minnows.
Peace out

I think that wil all change this weekend!!! Partly cloudy skies and its going to be in the high 70's. Those Bass will be out for sure chasing food! I'm not sure where I'll be fishing, Lake Joy or Juliet....hmmm
Matt-
For your shad do you prefer the G-Lock or the EWG Falcon hooks to rig these baits?
I see that you recommend the 4/0 hook.
Matt, I'm glad to see you got the minnows out and what a success they already are. TW will get an order shortly.

Just a clarification. The shad (will be released soon) has an internal head/hook. The minnow comes unrigged.
The bone head that started this thread was referring to the minnow, but called them shad

They still have some in stock.
