Strike King Pure Poison pwns all.

fishing user avatarBassBandit35 reply :

I don't know if KaRue (sp?) is one of the sponsor on here or used to? Have read good things about VibraShock so I'm unsure if its considered as a chatterbait because I have never try it. Have read lot of rave about it on other forum so, it must be a good one?

Probably not cause I've read that it vibrates and give a big thumps big time.

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

pure poison.... much better then the original

fishing user avatarBuzbait88 reply :

The only chatterbait I'd throw is the Karu vibrashock.  It has the best hook up ratio and the best quality.  IMO

fishing user avatarBass XL reply :

Rad Lures of course!

fishing user avatarBARON49_Northern NY reply :

I have tried them all and for me the one built with the best quailty and will track at any speed as well as come through weeds is the Booyah Boogie bait.  Plus it also had the leverage hook system which helps stop a fish from throwing the hook.

Since I started using the BoogieBait I have not thrown any of the Rad, Strike King, or any others.

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

Chatterfrog.

But, I've jotted down some of the recommendations on this thread, and may give them a try.

If there is something better than the Chatterfrog, I want it!

fishing user avatarOther. reply :

I like the original chatterbait. Boohyah's chatterbait is junk. This year I will pick up a pure poison since a lot of people say good things about it.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

Rad Lure's original before the company was sold.

I feel it is really unfair to a lure or company to claim they are junk without backing up your claim with proof. Please back up what you are saying with details. Would you please point out why you think the the Boogie bait is junk?

IMO the Rad bait is of poor quality because.....the blades are thin and bend easily, the bait flips over when you try to burn it, the hooks will straighten when using braided line. The finish is mono color and cheaply applied, comes off with any contact with rocks, docks, or even a fish's mouth. The skirts and some of the designs of the Rad chatterbaits do not stay put, and there is no barbs to keep trailers attached.

Now look at the Booyah Boogie baits.....the blades are of heavier metal and are interchangable, the bait runs perfect at any speed, the hooks are not only bigger and stronger but are welded to heavy wire braid and flex so a bass cannot throw the bait as easily, The paint job is detailed and tough with big glued on red eyes for extra attraction. The skirts come in more and better colors and are easily changed, plus there is a good barb on the head to hold trailers without needing glue.

This is my opinion based on actually using these baits and seeing the difference. Have been fishing well over 40 years and in tournament competion for half of that. So I have some idea what to look for in a quality bait.

Just for the record I am NOT sponcered by Booyah baits.

fishing user avatarjig reply :

Everyone has their opinions.Ive tried booyas & pure poisons and to me neither one gets close to the erattic action I get out of the gamblers.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

Another Chatterbait note: I am still using the original 1/4 oz model I bought from the inventor in 2004. I use it with 50# braid. I've replaced the line tie twice, the skirt about 4 times, and the trailer at least 20 times.  All the wannabe Chatterbaits with the split ring connection between the blade and jig head get hung up too much in timber. I caught several bass with it this week. It is like the Energizer bunny- it keeps going-going-going------

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

The Booyah Boogie Bait is the only 'chatterbait' that caught me fish and made me a believer in that type of lure.  Not to mention when compared to others, it is clear the boogie bait is of higher quality.  Thicker blade with better plating....unbeatable hook system.....just quality IMHO.  Cortez Shad is the one to get.

fishing user avatarBassFishingMachine reply :

My favorite is the original chatterbait. I will admit that it looks to be made cheaply, and the skirt does slide down. I just add a dab of super glue, and this fixes that problem with ease. I don't know, the original chatterbait just seems to give off incredible vibrations/action. The only other chatterbait I have tryed was the booyah chatterbait. I was not impressed. The action I didn't believe to be superior, nor the vibration to the original chatterbait.

I am not a huge fan of chatterbaits all together, and there is only 1 case where I will throw one. And that is dusk/night (or sometimes overcast), with a black/blue chatterbait, and a black/blue hulagrub as trailer. Any other time I prefer to throw a spinnerbait. Although I am thinkin of buyin a firetiger pattern one to try during chocolate milk conditions.

Ps. The hook on the original chatterbait I found to be garbage. I used a pair of pliers to bend it a bit downwards, as I felt the hook was too far bent up. I also used a hook sharpener on the hook. The hook is now ultrasharp, and after the adjustments I have a better hookup/land ratio.

Wait till that stupid little clip on the head causes you to lose a fish or two, then you'll really love it.

Or when the lame leverage cable breaks for no reason.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

Rad lures is good but poorly made.

Boogie bait is junk. It comes apart at the head.

Best made by far is Pure Poison.

All have same action but compare the 3 and you will pick the Pure Poison and not look back.

fishing user avatarBARON49_Northern NY reply :

Nothing that is mass produced is 100% devoid of defects.  To be honest this is the first time I have even heard of the clip coming undone or the wire braid separating from the hook.

All I know is I am throwing these a lot more then spinnerbaits and finding they catch good sized fish, both Smallmouths and Largemouths.  Last year in Florida I did very well using these Boogiebaits and could not buy a hit on a spinnerbait.

Thanks for the heads up and I will keep an eye on both things you mentioned. :(

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

Strike King Pure Poison......even though I've never even had a fish take notice of it....

fishing user avatarBuzbait88 reply :

I agree that rad lures are complete junk.  The hooks are weak, the blades feel like they are made out of cheap aluminum.  It seemed also that the blade was almost painted.  After it got bent to crap you could see like a silver film over the blade like it was painted silver.

Karu on the other hand uses the best quality products.  Stainless steel blades that are indistructable, mustad ultra point hooks that takes a winch to bend and the best quality skirts I've seen.  The blade ticking the head is unlike any other chatterbait out there and I think it makes a big difference in hook up ratios.  "you've tried the rest, now try the best"  Get a Karu Vibrashock.  Its the only bait that consistantly catches fish for me and bigs one.

Want to know what I don't like about the Boogee bait? I don't like the blade design or how it is attached to the jig. First off I have to reel at a pretty fast speed to get the blade to thump like the way I want it to. This causes the blade to run more shallow then what I might want. With the original I have more control of the depth. I have actually snagged the wire that connects the blade to the jig a few times before using the yo-yo and stop and go retrieve. Now I'm a fan of Booyah don't get me wrong. I have caught fish with the boogee bait, I just am not happy with the few kinks it has. Those 2 kinks effect me more then some pain chipping off.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

Obviously some of you have never seen THE Original Chatterbait. They only came with a rather hard plastic twin tail trailer and no painted blades, frogs, trap style bait, jerk style bait, or 3X material trailer. Here is an ORIGINAL card that was in a plastic bag with the Chatterbait. There were two staples at the top holding it all together.

fishing user avatarJames Williams reply :

Pure Poison hands down the best for the money and fish love them 8-)

fishing user avatarJames Williams reply :

The Booh yah to me is what I would say is trash. I have bought several when they came out and have none of them left. They litteraly fell apart. the heads came off the blade. I lost several dollars becouse of this and will never buy again. >:(

fishing user avatarVinny Chase reply :

I will never touch a booyah product again...Everything they make is absolute junk. I wouldn't make this staitment if it has happened a couple of times, but once it starts happening to everything from their spinnerbaits to buzzbaits to jigs, you know there is a problem with the brands quality.

I'm not a big chatterbait fisherman so all I have really used is the original chatterbait...Has anyone used the Revenge or Phenix baits?

fishing user avatarWanderLust reply :

Z-man with the red eyes is a good one.

Karu Lures makes an awesome bait as well.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

I've had my best luck on the Z Man Original Chatterbait in black/gold.

fishing user avatarHooligan reply :

I've never really fished anything but the Zman.  If it isn't broke, there's no need to fix it.

fishing user avatarBigBrotherThunda reply :

The Z-man original with a paddle tail trailer has been my go to search bait for the last 2 years. Ive tried them all, I HATE  the Pure  Poisons! I hate the Booyahs~! The other one I have had success with is the Phoenix Vibrator Jig! hasa a sweet sweet wiggle with a great vibration!

fishing user avatarSkeet22 reply :

The action of the original and the vibration is hard to match. They have a patten on connecting the blade directly to the head. Some people are complaining about the thin blade but this is one of the reasons it puts off the vibration it does..I've caught them on Vibrashocks as well.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

I'm a chatterbait newb - only been using one for 2 days and only caught 3 fish: 9.06lbs, 6.32lbs, and 1.45lbs. Don't know about longevity but the bait seems to work.

The bait - Z-Man TrailerZ. ::(

fishing user avatarHammer 4 reply :

Strike King Pure Poison.. 8-)

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

I like the Pure Poison as well.

fishing user avatarvegas679 reply :

I just bought some ZMAN Chatter Baits. What type of trailer should I use w/ them. They came w/ some but there has to be somthing better than that to use.

Thanks

fishing user avatarhookingem reply :

ZMAN without a doubt.

fishing user avatarJKarbo214 reply :

Not a fan of Z-Man.  I have had very bad luck with broken chatterbaits from Z-Man.  I bought a bunch of Karu Vibrashocks and have NEVER had a problem and have caught tons of fish on them.  Highly recommend them!

fishing user avatarendless reply :

Z-man been good to me so far but I'm going to check out the Strike King pure poison.
