spinning reel for less 100 dollars 2024

fishing user avatarichigo reply :

i am looking for a spinning reel to match my veritas for under 100 dollars and i wonder if pro qualifer spin reel is good reel with good drag?

is bps extreme reel good or should i get different kind reel?

i will be fishing smallies and lmbs too

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

At that price point I'd save $20 and just pick up a Shimano Sahara... tough to beat with other sub-$100 reels.

fishing user avatarOHIO reply :

The Abu Cardinal isn't half bad and much less than $100.

I just picked one up two days ago and it has been good so far.

I would ask others about it as I have only had mine for a short period of time.

fishing user avatardeep reply :

I'm very impressed with my browning citori spinning reel. It was/is my light/ medium cranking reel. It has given me flawless service over the last four or five months.

Other than that, I'd say a Shimano.

fishing user avatarBASSclary reply :

All the cool people fish shimano spinning reels, lol  ;D

fishing user avatarjdw174 reply :

I just got a Shimano Sahara for $79 shipped from *** and I can tell you it is the smoothest spinning reel I've ever seen.  haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I'm impressed :)

fishing user avatartrevor reply :

Shimano Saros on Ebay. I got mine nib tyd for $100. Just as nice as the new Stradics, the ONLY difference is where the Stradics have a worm gear, the Saros have a round gear. Big whoop.

fishing user avatarskunked_again reply :

i like the Browning Medallion for $60. 250 frame size at a weight of 8.7 oz's and holds 140 yards of 8 lbs test.

i did clean and relube mine before i put and hard use on the thing.

That's the mentality that makes me not even consider them when buying a reel.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

If you ever plan on using braid get the Saros at least if you look at a Shimano. I have a Sahara and the only difference between the 2 is that on the Sahara on the right side of the reel where the reel handle goes through there is a plastic bushing. On the Saros it's another bearing.  Bearings (good ones) support loads a lot better than bushings. My Sahara went south after about 3 months and it was the bushing that got a little out of wack that sent the alignment of everything of a bit. I threw a bearing in there and it is much better, but I think the damage has been done. :'(  It feels and sounds like an old Mitchell 300 now.

With no stretch braid really puts a lot of strain on a spinning reel.

Pflueger President (or a Sale Supreme if you can find one) are great reels. I have a Supreme XT and it's pretty nice got it on clearance for $70 or so...

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

fishing user avatarDockhead reply :

Pflueger Supreme, or

Saros if you can find it for $100, or

How does my stupid comment draw you away from SHIMANO?

I mean after all, it was MY comment so it has to be wrong right? :) ;D

fishing user avatarDaddyodo reply :

I picked up a Pflueger Trion this past June and absolutely love it! 49.99 at BPS. Very smooth and very reliable :) :)

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Whether spending over or under $100 the same issues still apply.

Speaking for myself only, I never buy a reel based solely on recommendation, that's a popularity contest.  I take my time and do research.  What am I going to use that reel for, weight and how does it balance on the rod I'm going to use it on? . What is my target species and do I really need a reel with a strong drag, not all are equal?  Does size, line capacity and materials used in construction matter?  Personal past experience with that brand and if needed how is their customer service.

IMO most reels today are pretty decent, but if I'm unhappy with my selection it becomes part of the learning process.

fishing user avatarSmokeRise1 reply :

I picked up a Pflueger® Supreme® XT from "the bargain cave" a few months ago.  They normally go for $129.99 but they occasionally put some in "the bargain cave" for $64.99.  I like it a lot.

fishing user avatarbigfruits reply :

symetre!

you can get the stradic f1 for $118 shipped online. PM if interested.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

webertime, thanks for the comment on the bushing in the Sahara. I just bought one without checking the bearing count and location as compared to the Sedona which I have 4 of. I just

checked the parts list and exploded views for each. I only use spinning reels for finesse presentaions and was not concerned with bearing count, just the gear ratio.

I'll get a bearing to replace that bushing. I use superline on all my spinning reels, but I set my drags closer to the mono line diameter rating rather than the superline strength rating.

fishing user avatarnorthern basser reply :

Another vote for the shimano symetre.  I have 2 of them and really like them.  They retail for $99,  but can be found for less on ebay.

fishing user avatarjazzy0017 reply :

X4 on the President!!...will not beat it for the price!

fishing user avatarRonbaby reply :

Okuma Epixor. Also like the Pflueger reels, trion is a workhorse for only $40.00. Okuma's will be a little more between $60-$70.

fishing user avatarludwig reply :

I picked up a Pfluger supreme XT earlier this year for 99.99 at BPS. Marked down from 129.99(I believe). Anyway it's discontinued now, but I still see them floating around from time to time. Let me tell you, this thing is RUGGED. I've brought in logs, 30lb+ chunks of slop - with bass still on it.  Comes with a spare spool too, I'm probably going to grab another one from the local tackle shop.

If you do find one, it will probably be around 80.00, for a reel that was originally 129.99 ... Whatever you choose, good luck on your purchase!

Never knew that about the Sahara.  I've been very happy with that reel.  Let me know what size bearing you get to replace it with, Wayne.  I'll probably end up doing the same to mine.

fishing user avatartracker01 reply :

X5 on the President. Very nice reel. Go to the tackle shop and put one on a rod. If it feels like the ticket, take it home. Just remember that a reel will feel different on different rods.

fishing user avatarbasscattrent reply :

I like the pflueger supreme 8030 it only weighs 7.4 oz and will hold 6/160 which is perfect for me. I have used braid on it and that works great also. It is smooth and for the price I do not believe there is a better reel. That is just my opinion though. You can get them used off of the internet or new for under 100.00. I have gotten them for as cheap as 50.00. The same reel accept a small step the 9030xt is a great reel also. I own 6 or 7 of these reels and they are so light and smooth in your  hands. When you hold a reel in your hand all day you will want the lightest, best priced reel go with the Pflueger. It is almost as light as the steez though I am sure the steez must be a nicer reel though. But if price is what is most important and it is for me also go with the pflueger supreme. :)

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

SoFlaBassAddict, I just sent Shimano Corp. a message about a replacement bearing for the bushing and will post the replay when I get it.

I would shy away from The Shimano Sahara as I have one and the bail sticks open when I forget to hand close it after a year of light use.
