Best $30 Or Under Spinning Reel? 2024

fishing user avatarhoosierbass07 reply :

So what are the best or good spinning reels for $30.00 and under for bass fishing?  I'm not interested in a $30.00 reel lasting twenty years.  For $30.00 I want it to last at least one season and it would be nice it will last

two seasons.  But no more than two season.

 Any recommendations?

fishing user avatarMissourifishin reply :

That's a pretty tight budget. I like Pflueger spinning reels. And you could get a Pflueger trion for that price. If you could spend a little more, you could get the Pflueger president, and have a pretty nice reel that could last years with proper maintenance.

fishing user avatarAlpha Male reply :

daiwa strikeforce. if you can go to 40$ I would recommend the daiwa laguna.

fishing user avatarMike2841 reply :

Not sure how much they go for exactly but abu cardinals are somewhere around 30$

fishing user avatarDBL000006 reply :

Abu Garcia Cardinals Reels. i think that's the best for your budget

Trion, President is worth the upgrade though...

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

Check ffo tackle. They have Pflueger refurbs that may be at or near your price range.

Shimano sienna

So... what are you going to do with it if it lasts through two seasons? Bronze it?

fishing user avatarDBL000006 reply :

If you take car of any reel, it'll last for a while.

fishing user avatarcamovan reply :

Another for Abu CArdinal.  I have one that sees light use every year and is about 8 years old.  I have seen Mitchell 300's on clearance everywhere for close to $30 and that would certainly last a few years.

Hands down shimano sienna $29.99. You will not find a reel at this price that can make it for quality.

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

I second the go to ffo and check out their reels. Right now they have a few Euro market Cardinals that are capable of more than a few seasons for serious cheap.

I have nice Shimano and Diawa reels.  Four spinning reels and one baitcaster.  I'm looking to increase my spinning reel collection so I can have a bigger variety of reels with different line on them.  Basically, I'm looking for cheap spinning reels so I can try lots of different line in the four to ten pound range.

fishing user avatarDyerbassman reply :

Shimano Syncopate will work, too

fishing user avatarbartdude186 reply :

Mitchell advocate, mine is on year 8 now i believe, built like a tank, not sure why i don't own more. Don't have much paint left on it now though haha.

Go to "fish and save" to browse.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

I had a Pflueger Trion that lasted for 6 years of average use from me, and abusive use from when I loaned it out a few times, and then I recently sold it, still working flawlessly and smooth as day one. I replaced it with the newer version of the Trion again. Feels like a very solid reel all over again. It goes for $40 but occasionally you can buy it for less, using a coupon at Dick's. Right now you can find the previous models of this reel, the one I had and sold, for about $30 at Walmart or other places, as they're clearancing them out in favor of the newer one. The older one has two aluminum spools where the newer one does not. This would allow you to put two different lines on it since you want to try different sizes, and it also is in the budget you posted.

fishing user avatarcbass12 reply :

For that price range there isn't anything better than the Shimano Sienna....... IMO

fishing user avatarLivewellHero reply :

One word, USED! Get an older Quantum Catalyst, they come up from time to time for $25-30 TYD, they're nice little Rees. Check the fishing flea market here and on other forums (which I won't name, don't want to bash this one). You can get some great deals on used reels, no matter what you're looking for.

fishing user avatarCrestliner2008 reply :

Abu Cardinal 100 series reels. Hard to beat in your price range. Great drags too!

Aha, now I see. I wonder if spare spools for your nice reels are a viable option? I realize that a given line isn't likely to behave all that differently on a $30 reel vs. a $200 reel of comparable size, but I'm always for changing as few variables at a time as possible. Just a thought.

I use a trion too and it's the old one that came with a spare spool.  Honestly can't tell the difference between the trion and my president.  It is a great smooth reel.  Some may not like the wooden handles, but I like them.

I had a President too. The only significant difference you'll notice is the bearings in the handle making the Prez slicker than the Trion. If you hook a fish that pulls drag, the extra bearing below the spool might be nice on the Prez but otherwise they're the same reel. The Prez also has an aluminum sideplate vs. all graphite construction on the Trion but in use this is not even noticeable and I doubt it even makes any difference whatsoever. These differences were on the old model reels. I believe they all carried over to the new reels also.

fishing user avatarTuckahoe Joe reply :

Another vote for the Abu Cardinal.  Bought one to put on my wife's rod at the beginning of last season.  It landed quite a few nice fish and it's going into it's second season with no problems.  I'm looking at picking up another one for a different combo.

fishing user avatarSudburyBasser reply :

I got a Shimano Sienna that was a bonus for joining the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters a few years ago. I had no intention of using it until my Pflueger President on my back of the Jeep rod needed a repair that my lazy ass kept postponing.

At any rate, I used it for about a month or so and I have to admit that for a really cheap reel, it was pretty good. Went back to the President after I repaired it but if I had to use the Sienna again I wouldn't be overly out of sorts.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

All the reels mentioned are just ok, they are fine for 30 bucks but what you have is a 30 reel and no more.  An extra 20 or $30 is going to step it up a bit, I'd forget the concept of many different line experiments on a cheap reel.  Buy 1 decent reel, put line on it and go fishing.

FFO is a good place to shop, they have a soron 20 for 60 bucks, the recon supremes are really nice buys too.

fishing user avatarfrogflogger reply :

Bought a trion for clients who couldn't use bait casters - the thing is smooth and seems indestructible - just dug it out and spooled it with nan o fil for early season hair jig fishing.

fishing user avatarlong island basser reply :

abu garcia cardinal, good reel for the money.

An Okuma.

fishing user avatarHyrule Bass reply :

id recommend both the trion and the cardinal. i have one of both, both came with spare spools. the cardinal i think is going on year 6 this year and the trion is going on year 4. both still work flawlessly and have had ZERO maintenance.
