Im looking to get a new baitcaster and I would like to spend no more than 150. Anyone have any suggestions ?
Best and $150 don't work.
Look for a used one for that price..
Best one for that price
Shimano is having a $30 rebate on their Chronarchs and Curados, so those would be my top two choices. If you pay retail for the reel the post rebate price would be $170 for the Chronarch and $130 for the Curado. Both are great reels at that price point and will keep you happy for years and years.
Curado 200e on the auction site. brand new 147 free shipping.
I love my Curado 200E5 with it's 5.0:1 ratio. I use mine for cranking.
If you have to why don't save some more money or come down and get Citica or BPS PQ and than just stock up on some extra tackle.
I've had great success with the Lews Tournament MG deep spool at 129.99 or the Tournament series at 149.99 ( dual cast control ). The previously mentioned reels are also great performers. You have several options.
Ok thanks guys I've heard many good things about the shimonos I'll probably go with that. But what is the auction site called?
You can't beat curado e series for under that price....$133 w/free shipping at ohya.com
If I was looking for a good reel in that price range, I'd look no further than a Shimano Citica or an Abu Garcia Revo S. I own both of them, and they're great reels. They're both listed at $129.99 (minus rebates) at BPS.
Personally I think you can get a GREAT reel for $150 but If you think you want the BEST look on Ebay for a Lew's TP! I've bought a used one for under $100 and a new one for just over $160.
In my opinion they are as god as it gets hands down bar none!
Shimano Curado 200E. Get one, best reel EVER!.
You should be able to find a NIB Curado for around $125 or less.
Some were discounted last fall for $89. I own both the 50 and the
200. These are "best values". My personal preference is the CU50.
Revo S or the Lew's tournament

ebay
The Bay of E is the auction site. But as someone mentioned. I just checked out that OHYA.com and OH YEA they got a good deal going on right meow, pick 1 up!
Shimano and the new Lews Speed Spool are the best
Left hand okay? There is a Curado 201E for sale in the Flea Market as we speak for $120 shipped.
Wait too long and it will be in my stable! :)
d**n..im right handed hash
Yeah, keep checking out the "fishing flea market" forum..just picked up a very nice revo stx at a very fair price this week (used it today for 4 hours!) There are a great bunch of members here on BassResource.com. [dont know why i chose the dancin chikie..its just how i feel right now.....................]
The best reel I've ever fished for under $400 dollars is the new Shimano Chronarch 200E series reels...they have a $30 mail in rebate right now...do yourself a favor and spend the extra 20 bones....it's 3x the reel the Curado is easily. I own 5 Curado E series (last years curado) and swore by them until I picked up two of these they absolutely blow everything under $400 right out of the water! They are incredible...just like the Curado but much smoother and more refined...My curado's feel cheap and grindy now.
This reel will flip a 1/4 jig 40 feet accurately! You really have to fish one to believe it.
That's my two cents.

The chronarch e series and curado e series are 99.9999% the end real.

I heard this many times from people who haven't fished the Chronarch...the frame is the same....that's it.
Buy one fish it....then come back and tell me they're the same. I own 5 Curado E series, four of which are supertuned, and two new Chronarch E series...the Chronarch is completely superior in every measureable aspect.

This is not hearsay it is 100% fact confirmed by bantum on the Tackletour "Product Support"forums.

Well I've fished and I own it...multiple reels in each series...so I'm speaking from experience. They go head to head in my boat every trip this season (roughly 20 trips already)
Where as you speak from second hand knowledge. That's fine you entitled to your opinion but your opinion is based on heresay and what you've read on internet boards, not experience...Fish one then come back and tell me I'm wrong.
Until then I'm not going to argue with you...there's no way possible you could know more about these reels than me because you have no head to head experience with both series.
Shimano Chronarch 50E, Curado 50E or Abu Revo STX, SX, S
I agree with the Curado E recommendation. I've had mine for a few years now, used in fresh and brackish water, and they are as smooth and cast as far as they did on day one.
pflueger president.

Again, you're wrong.
I have owned a ton of reels and not cheap ones either. Every brand out there and of all my reels I have now [ won't mention brands] I love my gold BPS carbonlite the best. Now you can all laugh , but it is my favorite.

Ive heard good things about the BPS brand reels. I still might go with a shimano but I'm looking into some BPS brand reels.

Nothing to laugh about, you are right. From a performance perspective, the gold Carbonlites and Shimano Citica E (clearance prices) are the best values in baitcasters today.
I've been refraining from posting in this thread, but have finally given in. Although I have different models from several manufacturers, there are not only other models from these manufacturers that I haven't tried, but there are many other manufacturers that I haven't tried any of their models, so I'm not qualified to answer your question.
However, I'm going to stick in my $.02 (if worth even that much) anyway. There was an ad for 3 NIB either Curado 50E or 51E reels at that price point. These would make great reels especially if you plan on throwing a lure in the 3/16 oz. range. Some used ones have been offered below your $130 limit. Now if you are going to be casting 3/8 oz. total weight or heavier, than I can suggest the Cabela's Prodigy as another great reel at its price point. Doubly so if purchased on sale. Not familiar with the new model, but I have a previous model that has been cleaned and had a bearing upgrade. This reel is very smooth and solid feeling.
You can find many good reels at that price point especially if willing to buy used. Your biggest problem will be narrowing the choice to just one!
EDIT: This is not to say that the Prodgy won't cast below 3/8 oz., because obviously it can. It is just that the person who did the work for me...and who has vastly more experience than I will ever have...said its best performance started at that weight.
