After experimenting with different fluorocarbon lines and being disappointed, I'm ready to try out a copolymer line and see if it's what I've been looking for which is less water absorption than mono, and much softer than fluorocarbon. I use primarily Trilene XL 12# with some KVD, and it's super soft and manageable and casts like a dream. If it didn't absorb so much water, I would be in heaven but it's like a sponge after an hour of fishing. So I'm ready to see what all the fuss is about with the Yo Zuri, but I see they make an ultra soft too. My question to those that have used this before, is the ultra soft the way to go for a bait cast reel? Is it noticeably softer and more manageable/better casting than the regular Hybrid? Which should I go with? This line will be going on my Revo SX and my Black Max. Thanks.
I have never liked ultra soft. Most use it mainly on spinning gear. All you need is regular yo zuri in 12#. You will be 100% satisfied if you treat it with kvd l&l. Congratulations on coming to your senses finally lol.
It's pretty much my last resort. If it's manageable and easy to cast, and doesn't absorb water.....sold. I understand that the ultra soft is marketed towards spinning gear, but does it not work well on a bc?
You could always buy it and write up a review on it. Save me from having to do it as I have been wondering the same thing. Lol
For what it worth, I bought 300 yards of 12# P-line fluoro clear to give a run. It's gotten fairly decent reviews too. Not used near as much as the yo-zuri on this board though.
YoZuri is the best thing since sliced bread.
I think you will like the original just fine. I suggest #12 treated with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner as you initially spool.
Gonna give some a shot. Hope you guys are right about this stuff...
I currently have a couple baitcasters spooled with regular yo-zuri hybrid, both #10 and #12. I also have a couple spooled with yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft...same sizes. For baitcasters, I like the regular better. I seem to have less backlashes....could just be me obviously.
I have found the exact opposite to be true with my spinning reels. I much prefer the ultra soft in #6 on my spinning reels.
Try both, the lines are very modestly priced. Let us know what works for you.
So why not ultra soft for baitcasters? Which is closer to the softness of Trilene XL? Regular or ultra soft?
Use the regular on baitcasters.
I used to think the yo-zuri line didn't absorb water. Quick story; casted out a floating bait meaning to deadstick it (15 lb Yo-Zuri hybrid). After 10 odd minutes, I noticed the bait won't twitch correctly when I worked it. The line had absorbed water and sunk! I managed to get even a floating bait snagged on an underwater limb that day when I tried to get it back to me.
Using braid and mono leader for deadsticking ever since. The mono leader still sinks, but it's only 5-6 feet of the line underwater instead of the whole 30 yards.
It says it's 100% waterproof? Hmmm

Ultrasoft is the only line I use on my baitcasters besides braid. It is very strong line and behaves wonderfully. You will learn how strong it is when you get snagged. As far as waterproof is concerned, the line doesn't absorb water, it is heavier than water and so it sinks. This has never been a problem for me as I don't use many slack line techniqes.

YoZuri does not float.
Someone else said that kvd didn't soak into this line. I have a bottle on hand so I will try it out anyway.
Well, I'm not sure I know the difference between "soaking in" and bonding,
but you will find a very noticable difference in the line after using the
line conditioner.
I just ordered Yo-Zuri Hybrid 12# for my new Lew's TP and am hoping it works well as an all around line. I know it supposedly sinks a little bit but the only thing I do on slack line is flukes. But I will have to see how it works with top water poppers and spooks since I use them frequently.
The line doesn't sink, it floats from surface tension. That means it is not buoyant, it does not float up if it is
submerged, but "floats" when it is on the surface of the water. As a practical matter, there is absolutely no
impact on any class of lure, topwater or not.
I will buy the original in 15 lb when I can get it in a large spool.

A quick Google came up with several choices, here's one:
Longfin.com 1lb spool #15 Mist Green $24.99
So is this more manageable that P Line Fluoroclear?? I gotta pull the trigger on some new line soon, and I'm done with mono and have no need for braid.
I've been using yo-zuri 12 for a while now with no issues. I'm not even using line conditioner. You can get 600 yard spools for cheap on flea bay. I'm actually thinking of going down to 10 bc it's so manageable.

The ultra soft is specifically designed for spinning reels.
I've never tried the US on a Baitcaster. Does it dig...On 9/4/2012 at 10:33 PM, Alpster said:Ultrasoft is the only line I use on my baitcasters besides braid. I've been trying the P-line Hi-Vis 12# copolymer on my Curado 100B for pitching. It works ok, but tends to dig a little into the spool after catching a bass that I have to haul through the slop. But not enough to bother.....seems a tad stiff, also. I like it because I can see the line as the jig sinks.
The YoZuri Hybrid 10# I have on a Curado 50E and find it casts well....no digging problems either. seems to bring out the best in the reel. Also have it spooled on a Curado E5 for crankbaiting. Very sensitive and stronger than I expected.
I like both lines.....the P-line for when I have to see the line.....but my preference for flat out casting performance is the Yozuri 10#.
Got the YoZuri Hybrid on ebay for about $8 for a 600 yard spool....great buy! 10# ia .012 diameter. P-Line 12# is .0148 diameter.
Naturally the smaller diameter line casts further than the larger one.
I'll probably go 10# too. 12# is what? .13 and 10# is .12?

Not at all. I have used most every line you can think of and YZ US behaves as well as any IMHO. Crazy strong and never had a knot fail. I really like not keeping track of many different line types and no longer buying line that never gets used. Now I buy Ultra Soft in 1 pound spools. 10 & 12 lb for BC and 6 lb for spinning (some 50lb Power Pro for slop). Change line often and use KVD line conditioner and I just don't sweat about line anymore. Makes my fishing more fun.

It is a fine medium for all baits. I have 12# on my Curado 50E that I use as my all around setup for fishing around town canals. Handles all types of baits no problem, and is tough enough to pull fish from weeds and cover. On 9/5/2012 at 11:12 PM, greatone1210 said:I just ordered Yo-Zuri Hybrid 12# for my new Lew's TP and am hoping it works well as an all around line. Is the Ultra Soft more manageable than the regular? If so, why doesn't anyone just use that?

I don't use regular YZ at all. Ultra Soft works on every reel I own. About 20 at last count. I use braid on my flippin stick and surf rod/reel (Straidic 6000).
Ronnie.
I have one spool of regular 12#. I will tell you it is strong. I got snagged 2x between rocks and it took me a good while before being able to break it off at the knot. I haven't put any conditioner on it. Ill try that to see how much of a difference it makes in the line but its been pretty good for me out of the box.
10# is what I'm leaning towards, since it's diameter is close to the diameter of 12# XL. Just a tad smaller and rated at a higher breakage strength than typical 10# line.On 10/15/2012 at 10:32 AM, Et525i said:I've been using yo-zuri 12 for a while now with no issues.
