Would you be upset or worried (KastKing Reel) 2024

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

I bought a KastKing Spartacus Plus on Ebay from a "sporting goods store" out of Canada. The price was obo so we negotiated $48 CAD ($36USD) including shipping. Seller has a little over 100 positive feedback and no negative or neutral. Post says shipped and sold from Canada (Calgary to be more specific). I bought it on July 14 with expected delivery July 20. I never received it. I contacted the seller since I never received tracking info and was informed it was shipped on the 14th with no tracking because tracking wasn't negotiated; it will get there when it gets there. After reviewing the seller's profile even more I seen something about China. I contacted eBay with my concerns and was told that the profile I bought from was in fact located in China and there as been more than one dispute recently over this exact situation. I then went to PayPal and said my bank was questioning an international charge on my account and needed to know exactly where it was going and PayPal also confirmed that the money was sent to a bank in China but was converted to CAD then to Yuan in which they couldn't explain why.

All in all I got a new timeline of arrival of July 31, everyone's hands are tied until July 31 to see if the reel shows up. This entire situation just seems sketchy even for a Chinese dealer. The dealer absolutely refuses returns and I'm worried that if the reel actually does show up it is not going to be the actual Spartacus plus I am looking forward to having.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Well, since you used PayPal, you have recourse.  All you can do is wait.  Probably would have been easier to order from KastKing themselves.

^^^^ yes or amazon.

I have recently had a few bad experiences with e-bay. Don't order much through them anymore.

they have always been resolved, but it took time.

I have bought 4 Kast Kings off of Amazon. always get here in 2 days.2 of them were next day.  Love Prime guaranteed shipping.

As I have aged, my patience level has dropped significantly.

If I order something off of the internet, I now  expect it to be here in 2 days.

If it can't be here in 2 days, I usually will not buy it.

First world problems.????

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

The previous 2 KastKing reels I purchased were from Amazon. I was on the bay not necessarily looking for a new reel but $36 for the Spartacus Plus was a hard deal to pass up. I literally had one in my Amazon cart to buy later that night until I saw this one on eBay as a suggested item.

fishing user avatarBaitFinesse reply :

You can get Spartacus Plus on Aliexpress from the Kastking store for $32 USD free shipping.

working for a bank I see people come in daily with fraudulent charges stemming from aliexpress plus I have had a couple issues of fraud come from using that website. They are actually listed as a top 5 site to never buy from with alibaba.com (who owns aliexpress) being number 1 on that list (This is a list from the BBB).

You can contact KastKing and verify, but the store on AliExpress(and eBay) are definitely official KastKing stores just like the Amazon one. The only difference will be that it's sent from China on Ali.

The situation you're in does sound potentially fraudulent, but I'd wait a week or two before really freaking out. After all, you've already talked to PayPal and they confirmed that something strange happened to your payment. There will probably be no issue with getting your money back if it comes to that.

They do have terrible customer sevice.  If you order something and it does not show up by the transaction deadline and you fail to open a claim before the deadline then your payment goes through and you're SOL.  Most sellers will extend the transaction deadline and then message you.  That's bad business from Aliexpress but not fraud.  I have never heard of fraudulent behavior from Aliexpress but I have heard of credit cards fraud detection getting set off buying things on Aliexpress but that happens buying JDM tackle too.  I had to tell my bank Aliexpress purchases were approved and I use PayPal to buy Japanese stuff to avoid tripping the fraud detection.

fishing user avatarBrew City Bass reply :

Anytime something comes from international, there is a good chance it got held up in customs and inspected. Possibly lost by them.

I've had stuff from Canada show up 2 months after I ordered it, and I've had stuff come through in a week. It's just what happens. I wouldn't surprised if the package shows up in a few weeks or even 3 months down the road. They take their sweet dilly time checking packages.

Rule of thumb. When in doubt, don't buy. Theres usually a reason the deals look so good. Many people are out there dealing with no ethics selling reels that were display reels, used reels, fake reels. There are a ton of fake products coming out of international markets. Always buy domestically when possible from reputable stores/sellers that allow returns. While the reel could be authentic and just held up in customs, its better to be safe when spending your hard earned money.

fishing user avatarDINK WHISPERER reply :

Seems like a lot of headache to save a few bucks. Kastking on eBay will make you some awesome deals if you just ask. That's where I bought all of my sons reels.

I just ordered from a "California" Amazon vendor, and my stuff (HVAC fittings) came straight from China, It took two weeks, but get this, it took 4 days from China to NY, and the other 10 days to get here in MD.

fishing user avatarBoomstick reply :

I have learned the hard way never to order anything from China or Hong Kong off ebay or amazon. Half the time I don't even get what I ordered and the other half of the time it's a fake.

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

I play a lot of hockey and deal with Canadian transactions quite a bit so I didn't think twice to buy from a Canadian store. It just bugs me that these Chinese companies are allowed to pose as a company from another country to generate sales. Because, obviously, I would have never made the sale if I knew it was coming from China to begin with. I would have just followed through with my Amazon cart.

Canadian here! Shipping anything to or from Canada sucks. Period. Takes forever and costs so much!!! Hooe it all works out for you, if there's a way I can assist in your next Canadian purchase let me know.

fishing user avatarKastKingUSA reply :

The best place to order is from Amazon.com where we are the leading seller of fishing tackle. Sadly, there are a few fake companies out there trying to sell our already affordable gear for an even lower price. Be careful and let us know how it goes.

Or it takes months to get here on an old boat.

Amazon is the best place to get your Kastking reels. They have flash deals on them every now and then. I recommend the Kastking Inner Circle club box as well. For $50 you get a lot of Kastking stuff (Buff, Rod sleeve, Backsack, insulated tumbler, etc) the best part is the discount emails you get (at least one a month) for Kastking rods, reels and merch just for joining.

I am really enjoying the KastKing reels I have. I have contemplated joining the inner circle.

It's a good deal. If you add up the cost of the items in the box it is worth more than $50 The Backsack alone is better than my Under Armour one and that cost me $25.

The discounts are excellent. I recall 2 times since I have joined where I got a code for 50% off a Speed Demon reel. I also get codes for anywhere from 5 to 10% more than deals they are offering to non-members. In other words if Amazon is having a 10% off sale on Spartacus reels I get a code for 15% off.

Sounds like a good deal! I've never tried a KastKing reel but I hear all about them on here and I'm very intrigued and might have to try one or two out.

I have an Assassin, Stealth, Spartacus and hopefully when it arrives a Spartacus Plus. I have been very pleased with them. I have used the Assassin and Stealth in every tournament this season. They have held up great so far.

I see they're doing sunglasses too. Great price I'm thinking about trying them out too. Can't go wrong for $25-30

I just wanted to let everyone know especially @KastKingUSA that the reel arrived yesterday. Comparing to my other Kastking reels and boxes everything looks to be 100%  authentic. And there was nothing on the packaging or shipping information that said anything about Canada. It was shipped and sold by a Chinese dealer posing as a Canadian Sporting Goods store (my opinion). I will be back to buying all my KastKing gear from the Amazon store from now on.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Having been a Shimano reel person for many many years and now in retirement and my reels that I've been using for many years are breaking down one by one I'm looking seriously at KastKing.  I guess parts are hard to find for the old chronarchs.  They have been awesome battleships to say the least.  These prices are amazing on the KastKings and I'm reading good stories too.  A person could get three reels for the price of one!!!  Am really curious of their longevity.

I have one since last spring that is scuffed up, never been cleaned, and it's working fine still.  I use it on a heavy cover rod with 50# braid.

Definitely information KastKing would likely need to look into. That sounds sketchy as if the dealer is doing something they shouldn't be. Sounds like a good idea to order directly from KastKing.

I have a few from last year that I fished exclusively (Assassin and Speed Demon especially) and they are in good shape.

I am happy if I get 2 or 3 seasons of use out of these Kastking reels. I can save enough in my change jar to buy a brand new one by then.

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Well I did it....like I may have mentioned my Shimano's of many years are breaking down and parts are a thing of the past I've heard and with shipping being so cheap (NOT) I ordered two KastKings.  A Assassin and a Speed Demon.  I have read a bazillion reviews and the company appears to have great customer service and with the money the middle man has to make in the stores to sell other reels .....well....I spent a little over a hundred bucks on two reels with free shipping.  Amazon had a $15 dollar off coupon on the Assassin so....done deal.  As the saying goes ....I have spent more on less.  So I feel it's a good gamble.

Reviews to follow....:)

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Amazing....got home from fishing last night and reel was in mailbox (assassin) Two days...other should be here today.  Impressed.  Good looking little reel and light and compact...quiet.  Am looking forward to trying it out today....

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Well....I got to fish the Assassin today for a bit before the thunder and lightening chased me back home to work on tackle.  My first assessment isn't bad.  After about a dozen casts it made the dry bearing sound so got this taken care of when I got home.  Darn reel cast's a mile....but....it reminded me of my ol Diawa that I had many years ago with all the adjustments on the outside.  Not that this is a bad thing....I just have to reteach myself....OMG....did I backlash this baby.  So....looking forward to taking it out again.....has potential.

:)

Oppps.....this was interesting.  I just received my Speed Demon and it's all oiled up (nice) and inside the box was a paper that mentioned the adjustment inside the Assassin's frame that is not in the Demons frame.....interesting.  BUT.....now I can adjust the Assassin properly......awesomeness.  Am curious about the Demon.....nice reel.
