Went to the thrift store today expecting to find the usual Shakespear Spincast from 1990, but came across this, only $15!
Mint condition, buttery smooth, I honestly dont think it has even been spooled! Preserved just for me
What have you guys found at thrift stores/yard sales?
DANG! $15, too! Sweet deal, man!
I found 2 older in the boxes Ambassadeur pro max 1600's got em both for $30 !!!!!!!!!!!!! that was the best find I ever had with anything fishing related. unless you count my boat. but that's story for another time.
Stole it!!! Great get! That's why you always check.
Nice grab.
That's a very fine reel.
Nice! I have been amazed what I can find in pawn shops and flea markets down here. That reel will serve you well.
Ill give you $18 for it
Dang! I gotta get to a thrift store!
Holy smokes, great buy! Kinda makes you wonder how long the former owner looked for it around the house before he gave up on ever finding it...
How much do they go for?
Im sorry, but you got ripped off. To make ya feel alittle better i will give ya 25.00, to help raise your spirits?
very nice. a classic. I had one that I bought in 1998 or 1999 and used forever. very smooth and easy to cast. it was my first baitcaster back in the day
nice find, best thing I've ever found at a yard sale was a mint condition Frabil 4-man ice shanty for 50$. For some reason I didn't buy it and still regret it...
Great buy and in excellent conditon too.
Whoa that's not a steal its grand larceny!

It is an older reel, but in that condition I'd be willing to pay $125.
Had to be some kind of estate deal, inherited by a non-fisherman.
Outstanding!

Bet his ex sold it or gave it away. I had an antique clock that I think my ex sold. She claimed she never saw it, but it was at the house until she moved all her junk out. It was maybe worth $600. She probably yard sold it for $20.
thats a great find.
I think it's one of the best reels ever made. You did real good!

Ouch
If I died tomorrow, whenever my wife had the garage sale all my St Croix elites would be $20. She has no point of reference.

And there would be some jerk there trying to get her down to $15 for the whole lot. I'm a veteran of many a yard sale.
I've sound some good deals but that's a steal
i got an original bps extreme (aluminum frame) and bps cranking stick combo for $12...
A glx drop shot rod for $130
you beat it by a mile
@Bantam1 Can you identify this model? having trouble finding the exact model number, gear ratio, etc.
(Also getting conflicting stories, I've heard the 100A does not have a Super Free spool, but has a nut cap. Mine has a nut cap and a "Super Free" sticker on the spool...)

Go to TackleTour and then the REVIEW ARCHIVE. There is an article on the Chronarch 100A, 100SF and 100MG.

Have you ever had the joke, "My greatest fear is that my wife will sell my fishing stuff for the price I TOLD her I payed for them..."
Went fishing with it today, its a truly amazing reel for being so old. It feels as smooth as a 2016 model reel in the hand.
Never found any great deals on fishing gear at a thrift store, but I found a Gibson guitar that was priced $50.00 that I sold on eBay for almost 2 grand (I don't play guitar).
I recommend keeping that one covered.

X2. Got lazy one day and didn't put my reel covers on when we moved a short distance to another lake. Did the El Cheapo Trion get any boat rash? No. My near mint Chronarch 101A did. Lesson learned. Now I won't even put a rod down while fishing without taking the time to put a reel cover on.
Karma . . Karma . . Karma . . most of those thrift stores exist to fund some charity or cause, which on some level is probably worthy. That reel was mis-marked because some pricing volunteer didn't know what they had. I'd consider throwing them another $30 - $40 and you'd still have a great deal.
You got a GREAT deal and you don't have to do anything, consider whether the charity should be shorted because of some volunteer error.

I have overpaid there many a time, I think we're even now.
