The Gan craft dead sword magnum rod $900!!!!!! I was just bored cruising TW and seen it. And then the magnum claw it's designed for is $120 it looks sweet but with my luck a pike would break it off lol.

Yeah fly rods and reels are crazy I remember a few years ago we went to gander and my wife laughed when I asked for another veritas at $100. She said I need a cheaper hobby. So I took her down the road to orvis and showed her the fly rods and reels there and said maybe illtake up flu fishing. I got my veritas lol.

Keep in mind fly rods are waaaaay more versatile than a conventional rod. I can fish everything from top, to bottom bouncers and everything in between with my fly rod. It also does the job very well regardless of the technique begin presented so the $900 combo doesn't sound nearly as bad when i justify it that way...at least that is what i keep telling myself

I would never pay $900 for a rod, but interestingly enough I had over $2,000 in an AR-15 that I shot maybe 5 times in 2 years. The only difference in a gun and a fishing rod is how much of your initial investment you can recoup should you decide to sell. But if it is something someone plans to keep and use a lot, and they have the cash, then I say more power to them.

Agreed. I have a friend that has a knife collection. He has custom knives with ivory handles and all kind of nonsense, some of which cost $4-5K a piece. He's never used them, never will. They only sit in a shelf. I figure if you spend $900 on a rod and actually use it for the next 10 years, you got your money out of it. Most people spend a lot more on stuff that doesn't last them nearly as long and don't even realize it. I know people that spend $300 a month or more on beer, for no particular reason.

I wonder what their warranty is...i would guess it is a no fault replacement but who knows. I Know some of the higher end fly rod companies are pretty much no questions asked kind of deals and i know a guy who had a high end Winston fly rod who didn't break his rod but he did lose a tip section on a river. He called them up, they said send it in and within a few weeks he had a new tip section...free of charge.

I saw that the other day. The winding checks are made of real silver. I think it's the most expensive bass rod I've seen in the US. I'm sure someone will buy it.

I wonder, do those rods and the lures catch more and bigger fish? I don't follow professional bass fishermen or what gear they use, but it would make sense to if those Japanese products were fish catchers you might here more about professionals using them. What's an extra $1000 if you have chance of winning a 100K?
$900 over 10 years is only $90 a year, not a lot. I have rods that are 10 years old that only cost $90, that's $9.00 per year. Still in perfect order and still catching fish over 20 pounds. I had the use of a Rolls Royce for a few weeks many years ago, as far as performance and comfort it was not in the same league as my Cadillac. That real burl wood was awfully pretty, some exquisite detail and the valet guys treated me pretty well, of course their palms were open wide.
If ya got the money and seek the status why not buy half dozen rods.

I fell in with my orvis superfine in high water. It was recovered a week later by a kid fishing downstream who met me and gave it back(i made posters). The rod was broken and completely gone 6" from the end of the cork grip. That rod was $500 at the time. I called orvis, they said send it in... lol. I said ma'am there isnt much here to send. So I sent it.
Two weeks went by and the phone rings. It was orvis telling me they had no blanks of that type to replace that rod any more, it was a 7'11" superfine, the one they quit making in a two piece. They then said, mr hoffman, open our catalogue and pick any rod in the new superfine line and we will send it to you at no cost.
I will forever be an orvis fan.

Yeah Orvis does do a nice job with warranty as do most of the fly rod companies really. I have replaced my Sage 4wt DS2 more than once and each time it cost me shipping and that was it....i hope i don't break it again though because it has since been discontinued and i fear that i would get a newer version and i love the moderate action of this rod....not to mention it is the rod i learned on and has caught me more species of fish than any other rod in my lineup....

Idk about the rod but the claw 230 is a sweet bait haven't caught any fish on it yet but it looks awesome in the swimming pool

Oh yeah, I know of someone that, if fishing were his thing, would, in his right, mind spend a grand in a fishing rod and one would not be enough. I would, the only problem is that I never have that money all together.
