I just bought a Dobyns 764CB RM 7'6" 8-14lb 1/4-3/4oz Medium Mod/Fast Action and paired it up with a Daiwa Zillion CC 4:9.1 and my rod was completely bent over trying to retrieve my KVD 6X. I thought this rod would of been able to handle these deep divers... I didn't even realize it was a medium action before I bought it. Should I of just went with the 764CB Medium Heavy instead of the RM Medium? Or does the action really not matter compared to the thickness of the blank?
Does anyone recommend any rods that can handle Deep Diving Cranks like the KVD 6X with ease? No hassel or me killing myself trying to get them deep? Lol I was do disappointed when I seen the rod just bend so much just to retrieve the cranks in. But that was my fault. I don't believe this rod was designed for DD Cranks.
Thanks guys for the help!
I have a my 7'6" Abu veritas winch and it does a great job with 6xd's.
Yea, you shoulda got the M/H. Send the rod back and get a 7'11 m/h rod. I just got the Powell 7'11 and paired it with my Calcutta 100 TeDC and #10 mono. I can cast the Lucky Craft 20' diver a country mile. The rod handles it well.
Dam that sucks! Well I'll just keep the rod and use it for something else... What can I use this rod for besides smaller crankbaits? Because the rod is beautiful but it just can't handle deep cranks. Can I just use this 7'6" medium for my jiggin rod or jerk bait rod? Wasn't sure what this rod exceeds in, as I need to use it for something.
I wouldnt use it for jigging, but it would make a good jerkbait, squarebill, lipless crankbait, and probably mid crankbait rod.
Ok thanks! This will be my new jerkbait rod. Will my Revo Skeet Reese 6:4.1 work well for jerkbaits?
Dobyns 765 glass my fav crankin rod!

How does it handle the KVD 6XD's? Does the rod bend a lot when retrieving? Because this 765cb rm did not work at all.
I believe the 764 was made to throw Norman Deep Little N's. So it should handle most of your mid depth and shallower cranks without a problem. A 5 power will handle your deep divers without much problem. I've thrown 6XD's and DD22's on my 705CB Glass with absolutely no problems.
I have a deep diving crank rod for sale in the flea market.......
Jeff
Yeah I deff need a rod that can handle 12' - 20' running cranks because I will only want a rod for just this purpose. What do you guys think about the Powell Max Deep Cranking Rod? 7'11" MH
Why not just point the tip of the rod toward the lure on the retrieve? Then you won't have to worry about it bending unless there's a fish on.
Keep it for all your crankbait needs except deep divers, and forget jigs with it, you need a faster action for that. add the Medium Heavy Moderate crankbait version. I use the the Avid AVS70MHM for deep divers 15' or deeper, and the Avid AVS70MM for anything diving 12' or shallower, they don't work at all for top water, for that I like a 6' to 7' medium with Fast action.

Check out that website, you can get the Abu Veritas winch 7'6" MH Mod. rod for 61 bucks with free shipping.
I have a 7' MH glass rod that works great for deep divers I also have a 6'10" MH-MF graphite rod that does a good job with them and it is simply because it is slightly stiffer than most cranking rods so the resistance of the bait doesn't use up the rods action. Don't be afraid that you will make the same mistake again, now you know that a MH will be what you are looking for.
Thanks guys for all your comments. Really apricate it. Still looking for which rod I want to settle with. So obviously I screwed up with buying that medium
Action rod. Looking like everyone likes a MH action. So does that mean Heavy action Rods are too stiff for this? I didn't think finding a deep crankin rod hard. Whats do you look for in a deep crankin rod? 7' 4" - 7' 10" Medium Heavy - heavy? What about tip?
Longer the rod the better (longer casts) in MH to handle the deep cranks, a moderate tip for a little give when the bass strikes. Moderate tip is key in most cases when using treble hooks.
I see I see so should I just buy that same rod in MH? Which would be the Dobyns 765cb glass 7'6" MH but has a fast tip.
The Lamiglas SR705 is great cranking stick.
That link is sent ya has a great cranking rod that is only 61 bucks shipped, thats 40 dollars cheaper than what you can get them anywhere else.

The tip may be fast, but you can all but ignore that. Due to the nature of it being glass, it's going to bend a long way through the rod. Do a search on tackle tour for that specific rod. You'll find plenty of user reviews on it.

This rod is THE BOMB!
Sold mine from page one link last night.

I don't know what rod to pull the trigger on... Dobyns 765CB Glass or 805 RM.
Also still looking for other rods to pop up. This is so hard, becayse this is strictly just for Deep Diving Crankin.
Have you tried any of the G Loomis deep flex rods in their crank series?? My deep diving rod is the G Loomis CBR864 DF. The only rod I use with my deep divers - the deep flex is amazing. I promise if you get one, you won't regret it.

I haven't yet but I'll look into them now! Thanks for the comment!

I think you will like the 765 glass it has softer tip to let the crank do its searching and doesn't rip the crank out the fishes mouth bc rod loads up alot better. But has enough back bone to get the fish in no prob. I can cast a mile with this thing. Ive noticed that the fish normally have the crank deeper in their mouth since using the glass rod. Personally i love it.
I have a 7' 10 Quantum KVD Signatue Series cranking rod. Great rod, love it!

You like this rod for deep cranks? 15-20'? And it doesn't bend the rod making it look like your hooked up every single retrieve? I just don't want a rod that bends like that when I throw my KVD 6XDs. Because that's all I want this rod for. Is to throw big boys.
I think cranking rods have to have some kinda bend to them, but its not no wet noodle feel like your talking. I throw 6xd's and is not bent over like your saying.

Ok sweet I'll check out that rod too. That 765cb rm 7'6" medium wasn't cutting it.
So I'm looking at the 765 Glass, 804cb, and the 805cb rm any thoughts between these three?
Any rod you use is going to bend on the retrieve. By nature, DD22's have a lot of resistance on the retrieve due to the large diving bill.
That said, if you're going dedicated, you'll want a rod that was made for DD22's. And that would be the 805CBRM. This rod has awesome sensitivity, length for casting, and a good parabolic bend to keep fish buttoned during the fight.
Good luck!
BTW, the 765 glass is great for deep divers, but based on your replies I'm guessing it would have too soft of an action for what you want.
I'm going to go with the Dobyns 805cb RM. thank you guys for all your replies! I really apricate everything!
