The new Tatula T-Wing level wind system is the one feature(?) that I am still undecided over which is delaying my purchase.
For Tatula owners , what are your thoughts & experiences to date of the Tatula T-Wing level wind system ?
Don't over think it! They're perfectly good reels and whether the t wing makes a difference to casting is kind of irrelevant. Unless you find them impossibly too large in your hand, as some people claim to, it is just a good standard baitcaster on a par with a curado. Getting a standard model for around $100 on the bay is just a bargain for a good reel. Try one.
Hate it. Never did like it. Let me qualify that by saying, that my opinion is only because I'm old fashioned. Line holes are supposed to be round or oval, up and down. Old guys can be very opinionated for NO sensible reason.

If you've you seen my post in the "Show off your stuff" thread, you know I'm a Daiwa fanboy. I din't have a Tatula, and after fishing with one for about 30 minutes, I won't be buying one. Don't care for the hollow, geary feel of the thing.
As far as the T-wing systems goes, I'd call it more gimmick than innovation. On par with their twitchin bar thing from a few years back.
Just another old guy's opinion, if you will. ( a nod and a tip o' the hat to Hootie)
I love my tatula, I don't really think the T-wing has any added benefits but it doesn't have any negatives ethier, great reel for a great price.
I never pay any attention to it. It casts great and that is all that matters to me.
no issues. really like the reel
I love my tatula r. But also I love my *** with the arrowhead guide also do they make a difference I doubt it. But still overAll a great reel
I guess my point is I doubt the t wing makes a difference
Love my tatula-R, never have an issue.
I see that my Tatula has it, that's about all I notice. I don't really see anything to love or hate about it. I think it's a sweet reel. I'm super impressed with it. It's the first Daiwa I've owned and loved but I've never had any higher end Daiwa reels so this is probably the reason I've not been a Daiwa fan all these years. The Tatula might be my gateway reel into the higher end Daiwa's but my wallet also has to be up to the task and right now it just isn't Still saving for that boat

I'm really surprised by your thoughts on it feeling hollow and geary. Have you only ever tried the one reel? I thought they felt very solidly built. Ive had 3 total and enjoyed them all. I've heard the same things about the ss sv from people though too. I think mine feels fine and I know you like yours. As they sa,y different strokes for different folks.
I like the Zillion TWS more than the Tatula TWS

That must be very difficult for you LOL
I bought one after test casting a customer's reel. I'll use it for chuck and wind applications. Some guys don't like flipping with it because the line comes out of the middle slot. I'm not sure it would hurt anything because it should slide back when you set the hook begin the retrieve. The one I tested had 20# braid on it and it fluttered across the slot making some noise. Not a big deal to me but intolerable to others. The reel casts well but no better than other Daiwas I've seen. The T wing is a take it or leave it gimmicky feature imo. At the $100 price you can find them they're not a bad reel.

easier than you think

Isn't it odd how perceptions differ? That would be why we all need to take these type of comments, and reviews, with a grain of salt. My opinion only really matters to me. Your opinion, based on your experiences, matters to you a lot more than mine. Rightfully so. As long as we don't feel we have to get in a whizzing contest about it, it's all good. There are too many people online ready to go to war over such silly stuff. It's only fishing.
You make a valid point when you note that I've only had one Tatula in my hands. It could have had something wrong with it, or had been improperly cleaned and lubed. In fact, considering who I borrowed it from, that would be a distinct possibility, now that I think about it.
I thought the reel was solid; just felt strange to me. I don't get that feeling from the SS SV.
Outside of the palming and the slightly heavier feel the reel is incredible. Pretty much worry free casting. Very impressed with the retrieve and casting distance. Paid $75 for it couldn't be happier.
I bought the Tatula R because it seemed like too nice of a reel to pass up for the $130 that they can be had for online. I must say its a nice reel for the money. I wouldn't say it's absolutely amazing, but it works well for its use. So far, I haven't bought into the whole extra casting distance from the T wing. I've been using mine for squarebills and lipless cranks.

Is this a joke. You do know it's the same reel, right?

your point?
I didn't like it because I found build up wouldn't blow out as easily like the old oval zillion line guideZ. Fishing gunk and frogs left me constantly clearing my line. Also, leaders would constantly catch..
Not saying it doesn't work, just isn't my cup of tea

I'm just curious as to how one can work better than the other when it's the same reel basically. The TT breakdown showed a slight variation in thickness of the actual tws. How it works is still the same though.

you just answered your own question. gj
Love it. cast great, seems solid to me.

The mind has been known to play tricks on people. Blindfolded you couldn't tell them apart.
Op it's a great reel and you'll enjoy it. I think you are putting too much thought into the whole tws thing.

We are talking about the levelwind, not the reel as a whole lol. Zillion TWS > Tatula TWS.
I fondle reels often ,,the reel felt great and all but the tws is just more.moving parts to replace and i dont see dawia having them 5 yrs from now.
I really enjoy my Tatula-R's and I think they are fantastic reel's. I get a very smooth and quality feeling from mine. I like the SS SV more but they each have their place. I am a VERY big fan of the double D's though..............Duckett & Daiwa
I hate the TWS but I love the T3's. Maybe I'm just weird.

What he said^ Good reel but sucks for flipping.
I like it but don't love it. It makes the nose of the reel bulky and harder to palm, plus it's not great for flipping as others mentioned. I haven't noticed any difference in casting distance over shimanos and lews in the same price range, however it is a little more effortless especially when pitching.
What rod pairs up well with the Tatula?

You could probably pair about any rod you want with them. However take into account the reel wait and your intended application(s). I have my 7:3.1 on a 7"2 Shimano Cumara MH XF rod. Balances and feels quite nice. Right now I am tossing bigger jigs with this outfit. Really getting great casting distance.
The tatula rod has a great balance with the tatula reel.

My Powell Diesels pair up really well. Not light as a feather but not heavy either. Again, heavy is very subjective in today's modern world of fishing gear and the never ending quest to be the manufacturer of the newest, lightest reel or rod on the market..."now at 1.2 oz, the lightest Shimano ever made" Eventually it just can't get much lighter.....fish what's comfortable for you and enjoy it.
