Curado E - Review of Sorts 2024

I've been baitcasting since I was about 10 years old. I'm 27 now and quit fishing when I was 19 after my father died. Last summer was my first full summer back into fishing and I got into Abu Garcia Revos. They were the newest thing everyone was talking about and I used to use those big Abu Garcia round reels back in the 90s so they seemed like the logical purchase. I had the Premier, the STX, and SX. I settled in on the SX and have been fishing those the most. This is not a slam on the Revos they are great reels but I had trouble casting lighter baits on those. It seemed like with the magnetic brake was super touchy and never really worked right. At least for me.
The Curado D never really appealed to me when I was shopping for the Revos, they seemed clunky and had too much back play in the handles but after reading all the reviews on the new E series I had to try one. I got a 200e7 yesterday. Outta the box my first impression was this is not the clunky D, it weighs less, and the back play in the handle is gone. I was a little let down that I couldn't get this in my favorite Revo 6.4:1 gear ratio but after using it for the past two days I really don't think there is THAT much difference. I paired it on a Crucial 7'0 M dropshot rod and fished Senkos, Dingers, Worms, Spinnerbaits and even a Crankbait. The retrieve is smoother than that of my Revos and one thing I always had to do with the Revos was add lube to the gears out of the box. Not so with the Curado. The braking system on the Curado couldn't be easier. I had no problem throwing heavier baits all the way down to weightless worms and only had to adjust the spool tension. I wouldnt even ba able to think about a weightless power worm on my SX.
I know it's not fair to compare the older Revo to the newer Curado, so Revo fans I'm not trying to knock your reel, but it's the only reel I've owned most of and longest to compare the Curado to. At $150ish on ebay these new Curado Es are a steal and I know there are better reels out there but those cost more and so far with the Curado E it feels like I go a high quality reel, not that the Revo didn't feel high quality but the casting of lighter baits seems like a non-issue now and unless these start falling apart prematurely I'll be a Shimano man for a long long time.
I'm also sold on these Crucial rods as well but I guess that's another story.

I use both and have to agree with your assessment on the Revos. I have dedicated them to T-Rigging and Jig. If you set them once for a weight they seem fine. Use for multiple changeout on weight and they can be tiresome. Not the case with either Curado D or E. Both are great reels (Revos and Curados) but like any tool they have their place I quess.

Even though i love my Revos, i will agree that they can be a pain! The last Curado i tried was the older green ones. I have been thinking about the new Es for a while now though. It can cast a weightless worm with no backlash you say?

I was throwing a weightless 7" power worm on the 7' Crucial with a fast tip. I'm guessing the rod makes a difference there also wasn't too much wind. That said I wouldn't even think about attempting that with my Revo SX. I'm sure a Pixy would throw these worms better but the Curado did do it.
Even tho I've sold my Revos I still "love" them as you do I guess. It would be nice if I could afford to keep both. Even if I could I'd probably use the Curados everytime.

I feel exactly the same way. The STX is a solid reel, I just don't
like the magnetic braking system. Like yours, mine is on a dedicated
rod and is dialed in for one task. Still, I have to tweak the reel every
time I use it!
By contrast my Curado, like all my other Shimano reels, is good-to-go.
No adjustments required.

I have two Revo's, which i use for heavier lure applications. I also have the new Curado 200E7 and I have to say that I like the Curado 100D better. The Curado 200E is a little wider than the 100D, which makes it not as comfortable to hold (though, the 200D's were terrible and huge). Don't get me wrong, both are great reels, but I would have to give the nod to the 100D (which comes in 6.2:1 ratio)

Interesting. I guess I forgot to add that another plus for me with the Curado 200e over the Revos is they fit my hand better. I've got big hands so the 100d would probably be a nice fit. Maybe I'll get one of those too now!

Unfortunately, they stopped making the 100D's, though you may still be able to find them around. I know the Gander Mountain by me still has some, which they are selling for $150.00. eBay is another option where you may find some.

Slightly off topic, but here it goes.
I have a new Curado 200E7 and love it, but I have found out that I have a source to get the Citica at a SUPER cheap price. Externally they are the same except for the color. Will I be disappointed after using the Curado if I get a Citica? I have 2 Revo SXs and as has been said I use them for spinnerbaits and bigger cranks where bait weight is higher than average.
Anyone used the new Citica?

Couldn't tell you. But externally there are minor differences. For example the Curado has those nice over sized handles.

I have Curado E's on my worm/jig rods which is what I mostly fish, but have the Citica on my spinnerbait and crank rods. To me the Citica is just fine. Yea, the Curado is a little smoother, but not a huge difference. If you can get them for a big discount, try one out. I think you;ll like it, but if you don't you should be able to rid of it on eBay easily.

The reason you can cast weightless better with the Curado is because the SX doesnt have the infini spool that the STX has. (The new ones have it) The SX is not great at weightless baits. Best for Lures 3/8 oz and up. The STX on the other hand. With the Infini spool (pretty much free floating) I can cast a weightless worm a mile with no problem at all. I have a curado and i actually use my STX for casting weightless T Rigs and light cranks. The New SX should be much better casting than the older ones.

I bought a Citica earlier this year put it on my Techna AV went out and fished it for a weekend and thought ho hum its alright. Then I went fishing for a week with all my gear I used to think my Pfluger Trions were a great real for the money. Now after fishing them side by side I need more Shimanos. Now the big questions do I get another Citica or is it time for a CURADO??????

Well I am no "expert" but rather a new bass fisherman as up until this year I was mainly a walleye fisherman. Now, living on a river where bass is king I converted some equipment to baitcasters. I have both a Citica and Curado as well as a Caestic. The Citica is a great reel. Casts very well but the Curado is noticeably smoother. Both serve me very well and I enjoy them both. Maybe there is a sense of better quality but really in a days fishing both reel perform well for me. Although I have been using the Caestic on the much criticized Carrot stick I find good use for that combination with frogs and pitching. Both the Citica and Curado are smaller and feel better than the Caestic.
Truly sometimes I wonder just how much difference the reel makes. If you are catching fish then the reel feels just fine if it is reliable. All those reel are dependable with good drags and smooth performance.

You hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. The fish don't know if you're using a Revo or a Curado.

I took my new Curado out again this morning this time paired up with a 6'6 M action Crucial. I was casting light weight worms, spinnerbaits and small light crankbaits into the win with much more ease than my Revo SXs. Every time I use this reel I like it even more.
The 7:1 worked great with the cranks and spinnerbaits

in my opinion the 100d is twice the reel as the e7 i can cast the same lure on a 100d 40 yards farther shimano told me to take it apart and take out some of the grease from the bushings. i soaked them and got it all out and it does cast better but still not as good as a 100d going to send it back to shimano and have them go through the reel or find someone to trade a good used 100d the e-7 is about4
