Shimano Brenious 2025

fishing user avatarrobster80 reply :

anyone heard of or own this reel? came across some listed on the auction site. never before heard of it til now. nice looking little reel. high ratio and has the bigger power knobs

fishing user avatarjbsoonerfan reply :

Looks like a g series Curado to me. I think at that price I would opt for a 200I or a Scorpion 200I

fishing user avatarcurtis9 reply :

It's a 50e series reel with a high gear ratio and a shallow spool

fishing user avatarArv reply :

I Almost bought one a little while back. It struck me as a reel very similar to my aldebaran bfs, just different ratio and salt water compatible if I remember correctly. If it's anything like the Aldebaran it should be a fun little finesse reel with a lot of versatility. There are some reviews out the if you use the ol' Google

fishing user avatarThe Budget Fisherman reply :

The spool design is made to handle light braid. It was made for the Australian brimm market.

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

Its a saltwater BFS reel, using the same body and frame of the Chronarch 50

fishing user avatarbass1980 reply :

Basically a chronarch 50 but It has 7.7:1 gears and also it has this unique spool. Not only is it shallow it's also narrow. The idea is its used with thin diameter braids so it helps prevent line digging. I thought about getting one for weightless senko on 20lb braid but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

I've highly debated getting one of these for the past few months. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

I have enough finesse casters, but if I was to get another I'd probably pick one up.  I have an scorpion xt with an avail spool, hh airs and core gears.  With all the money I've spent I could've picked up a brenious and saved some cash.

fishing user avatarcoak reply :

I really like the looks of this reel.  I must also say that the 8 block braking system has me intrigued compared to the standard 6.

fishing user avatarrobster80 reply :

im tempted to try one for my flipping setup when i get a rod. never owned a core tho so its btwn this and the core 50mg7

I would get the Core. The Brenious with it's shallow spool will limit your casting range if/when you cast with it and the Core will not.

fishing user avatarcurtis9 reply :

The core will give you the option of switching to a shallow spool. I don't think the brenious can use the standard spools from the other 50 sized reels. You can get the avail or yumeya spools to fit the core.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Any one use this reel for drop shotting 3/16oz and less? Or use straight fluorocarbon rather than braid and leader?

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

It's got a very limited use, the gears are sure nice and fit in other 50's e-body reels

Looks like the perfect reel for sight and bed fishing finesse presentations.
fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

TT just posted a review on it last week.

Not a very good review, if I remember correctly.

I'm in the same boat.  More "finesse" reels than I needed before breaking down and buying a real one when TW closed out the PXL/PXR.  Supertuning and upgraded bearings for some reels plus a Presso spool for one of my Sol reels.  Also a TD-Z105H with an upgraded spool.  Time to strip the line off at least 2 or 3 and go heavier so they can be used on Medium power rods.  No way do I want (or need) to invest in a finesse spool for my Scorpion.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I wouldn't get the Brenious. The review was poor, the price is higher than other 50 series reels like the Curado and Chronarch. Outisde of the gears I see no reason to own this reel.

fishing user avatara1712 reply :

The gear sets w/the related parts can be purchased from Japan Tackle. I installed 2 sets along with Metanium XG handle assemblies into 2 Scorpion XT1000's and they're static bait dreams. Brian.

When I fish the back bays I use an old spinning combo, (hate using nice gear in salt) but I have thought about the brenny. For freshwater, I'd definitely spend the extra money and go with the bfs xg or core/Aldebaran with finesse spool...

Sure, but given the size of some saltwater fish that could even be incidental catches there isn't a lot of line capacity.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

The guy who did a tuneup of one and wrote a review on the TT forums have it a better review overall. This doesn't say it's better than other reels in price range he just reviewed it for what it is. It definitely looks cool for someone who collects shimanos.

How is the stock scorpion compared to the curado?  I need a reel for my chatterbaits and spinnerbaits.  I already have an I series curado.  Looking to exand my arsenal.
