Hey guys, Ive heard nothing but good things about the Powell rods, so I want to try one. I have a Max 3D 7'5 MH Deep crank rod, and love it. I was looking at the Endurance 723. I also have a Tatula 7'2 MH/R, and feel its overrated. I feel it is a bit tip heavy and not worth the hype. So would I like the Endurance better? Using these rods for 1/4-3/8 oz jigs mostly.
Endurances are $119 right now on TW. You won't be disappointed with a 723. The Tatula is a good rod too though. Maybe you were just expecting more.
Yup, I just ordered a 723. Hoping the large Powell following here can tell me more about it. And I think your right, I definitely like my Tatula, but maybe set my expectations a little high.On 12/10/2014 at 2:13 PM, rippin-lips said:Endurances are $119 right now on TW. What techniques do you use the Tatula for?
I got the rod beginning of this year, and mainly used it for Spinnerbaits and 1/4-3/8 oz jigs, and I'm still experimenting. On 12/10/2014 at 3:04 PM, Tywithay said:What techniques do you use the Tatula for?
Oh. I really like that particular model for squarebills and spinnerbaits. I found it a little slow for jigs.
You'll love the rod. They are an awesome deal for that price
The regular taper on your Tatula is more for reaction type baits than it is for jigs, so I'm guessing the Powell will be a lot better just because of the taper.

X2. My thoughts as I was reading through the posts. My first Tatula rod happened to be the 7'2" MHR. I do plan on using it for more than crankbaits, tho.
I used to have a 723cef. It was one of the most versatile rods I've owned.
Yeah, you should love the 723. I have one, granted never fished with a Tat rod, but the hook setting power on the Powell Endurances is almost unfair. Great all around round, I think it shines with 5 in.. weightless senkos. Enjoy and let us know how you like it!

Right on, Ill probably be using it with 5 in. weightless senkos and 3/8 oz jigs for big hard fighting smallies, so thats good to hear! Also, hows the balance on it? Balance is one of the most important things in a rod for me. Ill be using a reel in the 7-8 oz range.
Well to me that is a loaded question about the balance. Meaning, without a reel on it, the balance seems not where it should be. More toward the tip of the rod then I thought. But, with a reel on it, the balance seems great. I know you're thinking "No kidding Wdy!," but to me the balance on the Endurances just seem to be more a function of the reel. For instance, I was using a Curado 50E (what, 7 oz.???) on my 723 when I first got it, great combo, a weightless senko machine!!! Now, I am using a Lew's Tournament Team Lite reel on it, 5.8 oz. To me, the 723 liked the 50E better,
Endurances, are not the lightest rods out there, they are light though, but the balance with reel, hook setting power, and increased sensitivity are worth the sacrifice. For you application you sound like you are right on the money. I use my 723 for everything, small squares, spinnerbaits, etc. but to me, the tip it a little too stiff for liking for moving baits. (I catch bass that way, but say for small squares, it is usually on the last treble hook, yeah, I know there are a lot of other variables there.) But, for senkos again, you're are just going to feel that "THUMP!!!" clear as day!!! It's really such a wonderful feeling! You just feel a "weight," drop on your line and that's it, no doubt about it!
Let me know if you want a pick of the balance point on a 723, I'm recovering from surgery, but getting better and should be able to got one.
Wdy
PS, got this smallie on my 723/50E
I use my two 723's for everything. Here's a pic I took a while back for someone. Any reel from the 5-8oz range will balance great. The 723 balances better than the champion 703 I just bought using the Steez. It's not by much but it's about 3/4 inch above the reel seat nut. The Dobyns is lighter and that's the reason why the balance point changes.
Give the endurance a shot, really well built rods and a no brainer at $119 !!

Thanks for that rippin-lips. That balance is insane for a 7'7 rod! Well mine is supposed to be here Friday, and I am really looking forward to it.

You told me just about everything I needed to hear about it. Thanks Wdy
For the price on tw it's defiantly worth it...
I was going to make a thread on the 723 but this saved me the trouble. Don't have one of these so might get one for the low.
It's a no brainier imo.
You guys have just about talked me into one too.

Lol, my 10% off electronic gift card didn't come through tonight. I'll be sure and post if I decide to get one. I'm definitely getting a Zillion and a rod, just haven't quite decided which one yet.
I like my 723 for oversized shaky heads with magnum trick worms. It's a bit light for jigs to me, but perfect for big shaky heads, senkos, flukes, ect.
^^^^ That guy is one fishing machine to! I'm stealing that magnum shakey head idea Josh!!!

Get some Yum Pumpkin Heads in 3/8oz and put a magnum trick worm on it...it works! I probably caught 10 or 12 fish over 5lbs with it on my 723 on Toledo Bend!
Got it today after a delay by UPS >..... Wow, am I impressed. Excellent rod, wish I couldve gotten a few more. Thanks to everyone for the help.
