Can someone explain the numbering system on GLoomis rods? 2024

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

I think the last number refers to the power of the rod. However, after looking at a couple different models it seems if that is the case, then even that number can blur the lines a bit.  How can you tell rod length?  What does the 8 stand for (in say 843)?

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

the first two numbers ( in rods less than 8'4") are the rod length in inches, the last number is the rods power rating.

843 = 84 inches (7ft) 3 power

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

Thanks.  Seems like in a lot of other manufacturer's models, it would be 8' 4" 3 power.  I new that wasn't how Loomis designated their rods.  Makes perfect sense now.  Thanks.

Or you couldn't resist another chance to criticize somebody for wanting to use equipment different then yours. Or wasn't that you just have a deep hatred for Shimano/G. Loomis/Power Pro?

you guys have no sense of humor !!!i was joking !!! how many times has my love of pflueger reels been critisized and i don't cry about it !!! btw,i don't hate shimano or powerpro.shimano makes awesome casting reels.powerrpro i used to use all the time but now there are better products.loomis i just don't get.i would buy a st.croix or american rodsmiths titanium ultra first any day.would you guys buy a glx if it had a one year warranty and no expiditor service?

fishing user avatarbmadd reply :

I actually only have one G. Loomis and it's a CBR. I have just noticed that you seem to jump all over people when they talk about G. Loomis or Power Pro.

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

i jump all over people who think it's great to break a 400 rod and then pay 50 to replace it.imho i hear of more loomis rods snapping on the internet then any other brand.if it was a car it would be recalled.you don't hear nearly as much of st.croix or others snapping.they may be light and sensitive but i just don't get it.most guys who tourney fish for money don't use them either.i think it's a status symbol more than anything else.but if guys like them have a ball.as far as powerpro i just try to help people buy a better braid at a better price.

Everyone I've ever known who actually OWNS one has loved it. I have heard of them breaking, but I have seen you say that they break a lot WAY more often than I see actual accounts of breaks from owners.

maybe someone should help you buy better reels at a better price?

Some of us have rolled them up in a window or

smashed them in a door, but I have never known

anyone to "break" a rod.

G. Loomis sets the standard. Everything other

brand of the highest quality claims to be "just

like a G. Loomis (GLX)", but cheaper.

St. Croix makes a rod comparable to the IMX and

I have several, including two Legend Elite. Great

rods at a great price, but not G. Loomis.

I have VERY high regard for your opinion and input.

I am not disparaging your post, I simply have a different

i broke a Berkley Cherrywood once.

fishing user avatarnorthern basser reply :

I've broke 3 loomis rods over the years.  One in a car door,  one that was hanging outside the boat and hit the dock and the other my drunk buddy did the "ugly stick" test to while I watched in horror.  NEVER on a fish!

Fair enough but this post had nothing to with the warranty or a broken G. Loomis.

Does marty's buddy know what a drag is? Does he know how to set it properly?

I've snapped a couple GLX's before on hooksets....both times my drag had not been set back correctly after cranking it down tight to break jigs off. Totally my fault for forgetting to reset my drag.

If your drag is set properly, no rod should break. Not saying it won't, but it shouldn't.

fishing user avatar=Matt 5.0= reply :

Sadly, after 12 year I broke the tip off my Loomis 1266S. For those who aren't familiar, that's the 10'6" Surf rod. So, I paid $300 for it in 1996, used the expeditor warranty from Loomis in 2008... Bam,  brand new rod.. no questions asked. I think I got my money's worth. 8-)

Do you own a GLX, Dodgeguy?  How many GLX rods have you broken?  Or are you basing your reviews solely from what allegedly happened to Marty's buddy?

If the answers are no, zero and yes, then you're doing the folks at BR a disservice by giving a scathing condemnation of GLX rods whenever you have an opportunity.  Pretty much everybody with personal experience with GLX thinks they are top of the line and would recommend them to a friend.

So what if Martys friend brakes rods what does that have to do with the price of apples or this Post.

i've fished with them .they are light.i've never broken one.i didn't think they were any more sensitive than other top of the line rods i've had a chance to use.i would never buy one.i know a bunch of people who break them.i've read a lot of reports by guys who have broken them.that's where my opinion comes from.
