I am looking at getting new line for my reels and wondered if I should stick with mono or switch to Yo Zuri for an all around fishing line. I mainly bank fish with some, but not much grass.
Give the Yo-Zuri a try, it is an inexpensive experiment. Most guys on the
Forum like it, but some don't. For baitcasting #12, #6 for spinning gear.
Thanks. I'll give it a try. What color? Can I still use an improved clinch not with it or will I need to change to a palomar?
Any knot will do as long as it is tied properly. I generally use a Palomar Knot
for single hooks and a Duncan (also called Pitzen or 16-20) for treble hook
lures.
The water in Alabama or should I say the Tennessee River in particular, is
what I consider "stained". Smoke blends best in stained water, green in
clear water. However, I also like clear simply because it compliments some
of my rods & reels better! It really does not make any difference.
Most of the waters I fish are stained color. The only one that is not is Lake Martin which is clear. Would it be better to get green to blend in more in the clear or smoke to blend in where I do 60% of my fishing? Ebay has Smoke colored Yo Zuri for 7.99 per 600yd, but the heaviest weight is 10 lbs. Would that work or is 12lb going to be worth getting? Thanks for your help.
I think #10 will be fine, but the line is on sale on the internet most of the time from a variety of
retailers. Personally, I would not buy line from any site that is not well known. You just never
know how the line has been stored or how old it might be. $7.99 is a great deal, but it is not
really "special". If you combine the line with other purchases for a total of $50 or more, many
companies will have free shipping and no sales tax.
RW is wise. I second all that he said. You will love it. I don't think the color matters much, either. They all seem to blend in real well in the water and I've never worried about visibility to the fish. I suggest getting whichever you think YOU'LL be able to see best. For me, that's clear or smoke. I have trouble with green for some reason. I've used 10 on baitcasters, and it is fine, but will make you a little nervous around cover. The upside is that I can cast a Rage toad into the next county
Thanks, I didn't think about that. I'll buy from Tackle Warehouse. They will have 12lb anyway.
I take that back. Tackle Warehouse does not have 12lb in smoke or anything but clear. Buy from somewhere else or stick with clear?
You can't go wrong with 12# clear. A great all-around baitcasting line.
Nothing wrong with clear, I use clear & green. Buy with confidence.

It makes no difference.
I'm sure color does not matter as much as line diameter, but the smoke color literally dissapears in the water. I went to walmart today to pick up 600yards of 12lb line and was shocked to see it cost $17.96, and had an employee double check the price, but it's true. Some higher lb tests costs like $20. Not long ago it was like 7 or $8.99.

Well, the Hybrid is always on sale somewhere. A quick Google and the first thing that pops up is 275 yards for $5.99.
Another site is offering 600 yard spools for $7.99.
I've agreed with everything on this thread and think YH is perhaps the best all around line. A couple additional advantages YH has over mono is that it does not absorb water (so the line characteristics and stretch don't change throughout a day of fishing) and it is UV resistant. I have had mono lines out in the sun for a couple of days on longer trips to Canada and it does seem to dry out and get brittle fairly quickly. YH seems to hold up, for me, many times an entire season of pretty regular use...
Where can I find 12lb smoke YZ? I can find it on eBay but that is it.
Does yo zuri float like mono?
8 and 15 are both pretty neutrally buoyant - they don't float so much as sit on top of the water and often very slowly settle below the surface
Is smoke purple the same as smoke?
No. I love the line but sucks for top water LC Sammy'sOn 3/14/2015 at 2:13 AM, chadmack282 said:Does yo zuri float like mono?

I do use top water some. Do I need to stick with mono or can you make it work with YZ?
You can make it work just do not let the bait sit and the line sink.
Alot times I let top waters sit until all ripples on surface are gone so I want a floating line.
I also like balsa cranks bcux the seem to hav more hunting action going left & right do I do want a line that SOME stretch but just a little so u don't loose the sensitivity of the bait.
having trouble finding xactly what I am looking for.
I use same MM rod for top waters & balsa cranks.
???

O.K. Thanks.
Yz will work just fine for everything. Unless braid is needed/desired ( super thick grass )
Color is largely irrelevent- my favorite is smoke for my 12# ( topwater, crankbaits, paddle tails...) and 15# mint green yz ultrasoft for bottom contact and inshore.

Where do you find the Smoke 12lb? I can't find it anywhere.
I use all copolymer fishing line. I used every brand but I always go back to Excaliber Silver Thread Copolymer fishing line. I fish from shore too.

It pops up now and again online. I actually got 3 600yd spools when sports authority closed here locally. They were the only place to carry it. I buy it completely online now.
O.K thanks.
