Suffix braid vs Power Pro 2024

fishing user avatarPintail55 reply :

Just curious what everyones thoughts are one these 2 lines. I threw power pro last year and was thinking about trying some suffix performance braid.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Can I ask you why you want to stop using Power Pro???

fishing user avatarbow3022 reply :

Yea i gotta ask the same question texas bass pro did..Why? Its such a great line..I mean suffix is great to but, throwing away power pro? MAN you gotta be crazy. I love my powerpro line.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It. :D

I use and love PowerPro! There, now my secret is out sad3.gif ::)

fishing user avatarPapa_Tom reply :

I have used a few different braids (3-4), only use it for one application.  Tried PowerPro a few years ago and have had no reason to want to change from it.  Cannot comment about the attributes of Sufix as I have not used it, and honestly, I probably won't unless something goes wrong with the P/P

fishing user avatarPintail55 reply :

NO,NO don't get me wrong I don't want to stop using it all together I love power pro, I just have heard some good things about Suffix braid and wanted to throw it one one of my reels to see the difference. My only complain is the dig in I get with pp. I might just be my carelessness or style of fishing, and I thought i had heard suffix was a rounder line and didn't have the dig in (maybe I'm wrong).

85-90% of my fishing is jig or worm fishing and I am seriously thinking of going to strickly braid. I really like to fish the same line (mental thing with me ::D) on all my rigs, and just trying to get all the options. I threw #30 power pro last year on half my set-ups and 12# mono (xl) on the rest and what to make the jump to braid (really feel confident with braid).  What would you all suggest for lbs. for jig worm fishing or a great all around # for everything.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Go ahead and try it.  I see no problem in trying something new.  I personally don't think you will like suffix any better.  I went from Trilene to Spider wire to Power Pro.  I also use Yo-Zuri which I really like.

I just thought maybe you might of had bad experiences with Power Pro and just wanted to know what it was.

Pintail, I use braid on my spinning gear for "everything", it does it all. On different outfits I'm using 20, 30 and 50lb PowerPro.

Though I hear fellows talk about line-burrowing, I have no problem with line burrowing at all. Naturally, if my lure gets solidly

hung-up on a stump, and I horse the hook-out with enough force to tow a rowboat, yes the line will burrow into the spool.

But realizing that, I just strip off a few yards of line first, before making the next cast, and there's never a problem.

By all means give Sufix a go, but I trust you will find no measurable difference, braided polyurethane is braided polyurethane.

I did....and I dont even consider PP. Suffix (IMO) is much better.

power pro come in yellow

sufix doesnt

fishing user avatarPintail55 reply :

Only reason I was asking is that I have heard a lot of good things about the suffix. I'm throwing 30# power pro now and has been pleased, just curious if you guys think I should step up the lbs. (for a bigger diameter). I use casting reels (mostly curados) 99.999999% of the time.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I have used both PowerPro and Suffix in 20, 30 and 50lb . The 20lb diameter PowerPro kept binding into the spool on one spinning reels so I tried the 20lb Suffix and had no problems. I later tried 30 and 50lb PowerPro again on two different baitcasters and two different spinning reels and was very impressed. It casted well, had good knot strength, and I caught lots of fish with it.

Later on last year I purchased to some more Suffix just because I liked the 20lb so well. After fishing with them for almost 4 months I came to the conclusion that, I like the PowerPro better (at these line weights). It is not to say that the Suffix was bad line, the PowerPro was just better. Bottom line, I caught more fish with the PowerPro and it casted better, especially on a baitcaster.

One other thing about Suffix and PowerPro, the Suffix might have a slight edge in durability. I will continue to use and purchase the 20lb Suffix.

PowerPro is good and is less expensive.  I love PowerPro but since I tried Sufix Performance Braid this summer, I haven't bought any more PowerPro spools.

me i dont like power pro i like p line spectra better but i have tried sufix and its better then both. suffix casts very well and handles great ;D

fishing user avatarcabela10 reply :

Guys lets correct something really quick that has been bugging me since you all jumped on the Sufix bandwagon in the past 6-8 months.

I see a lot of people spelling the brand wrong... it is spelled SUFIX... with only 1 "F".

In 80% of the posts on this entire site, people are using "FF".

Lets start spelling this the way it should.

I've used Sufix Elite for the past 2 seasons and love the stuff, wouldn't ever switch back to Trilene or Berkley. (spools of that garbage are for sale)  Going into this year past year, I got some Sufix braid for my jig rod and the stuff is incredible.

fishing user avatarcabela10 reply :

By the way guys.... Sufix is always giving you money back for that expensive braid they sell.

If you purchase a 330yd. spool of braid, which is around $35. You send in a rebate for $10.  I did it this past year with all my Sufix lines.  I spent around $100 on Sufix line last spring and got back over $30 from Sufix within 3 weeks.

Go to there website and search around, you can simply print off a rebate from the site or get it at the stores.

fishing user avatarMatt Jungblut reply :

lol ok so they have yellow

but do they have red or white

just busting ur chops muddy man

i have a spool of sufix put it on 1 reel and ended up selling that reel before i could give it a real shot still have some left when its spring here i will give it a shot again

fishing user avatarcabela10 reply :

MattJ... Sufix even has pink line for the girl in your life.  My girlfriend wants me to buy it for her. ha ha.

fishing user avatarMatt Jungblut reply :

ahh then my sufix line could match my pink tdz

;D ;D

sorry had to say it

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

I too have used both and I have to say I liked the Suffix alittle better. I use it when slop fishing and C riging. ;D :D:)

fishing user avatarClayton reply :

I have used power pro before and I threw it in the trash. Now all I use is P-line. Let me explain. When power pro fisrst came out I went out and bought it. I was sold by all the advertising. I started using it and I did like it at first. The sensitivity is great. I started fishing some tuesday night tournaments at our hometown lake and I couldnt keep that stuff from breaking. I was throwing 25lb test at 4lb fish and i would loose every other fish, plus my bait!!! The spool would also get mushy and bury. If you fished it in rocks it frayed very quickly. I got real ticked and threw it away. I suggest anything but power pro.

fishing user avatarBream Master reply :

I have used both brands and from my experience, Suffix is better.  I think Suffix is smoother and has more of a silk feel, which I think allows for further casts.  For some reason, I get less backlash and digging using Suffix.  I think you'll like Suffix, if you decide to spool with it.

Here are my ratings:

1. Suffix

2. TUF line

3. Stren braid

4. PP

5. Fireline

Been there, tried it. Still using PowerPro for most applications. The only other braid I like to use these days is P-Line.
