Quantum Accurist Bait Caster? 2024

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

Bass Pro has these reels on sale this Sat. for $49.99 and they sold for $129.00 at reg. price. Just would like to know if this reel is a good buy or should I take a pass on them? :-/

fishing user avatarBig Mike in Fl reply :

I'll be picking up a few this weekend at the sale, its a great deal and I need a few reels.

I  have two of the accurist cx's (the next model down) they have done real well for me, they are getting worn now, but I attribute that to poor care(leaving in the bed of truck, dropping in mud, poor upkeep etc etc), which I won't be doing anymore.

so my opinion is try them out, I'm going for them.

fishing user avatardrmnbig reply :

Worth every penny of it.  I wish I had the extra money because I'd pick up a couple of them.

fishing user avatardmac14 reply :

I am gonna get me one, hopefully they don't sell out  :-/

That's why I'm getting there right when they open

fishing user avatarTuckman reply :

50$ is about all the Accurist PT500 are worth, I picked 2 of them up last year when they had that 50$ rebate through BPS and both reels were absolute garbage...I gave one of them away to a friend and the other one's gears are so shot that its unusable.

...just my own exp. though

fishing user avatarbigmountaineer reply :

I've read just the opposite that they are good reals for the money, I don't care what you say for $50 that Accurist is a good deal. People were paying $130 last year for it, I wouldn't worry about it, makes a good slop reel for sure if you get the burner version. I will be there sat morning as well.

fishing user avatardallas0996 reply :

I'm planning to get there early and hopefully get a few myself...so far I have had the best luck with my quantum that is a "step down" from this one...not that I've tried alot of different brands since I am pretty much a baitcast noob....

fishing user avatarhawgchaser reply :

Ive got 3 of them now and LOVE them. They are worth the $129 price so the sale price is a steal. I know a lot of people that bought these when cabelas put them on sale for $59. Tuckman's report is the first bad report I have heard of from these reels.

I liked them so much i just bought a NEW Energy PT. And thats a smoooooth reel.

You will love them.

fishing user avatarTuckman reply :

Haha, Hawgchaser, dont get me started on my Energy PT report, I have one of them too, at least whats left of one...lol

I guess I really shouldnt bash quantum its just that I have had very bad luck with them, and all 3 PT' s had the same exact two problems.

On the other hand, I had one of the old 80$ PT golds and that was an very good reel for years and was the reason I bought the other 3 Quantum reels last year.

When 3 new quantum reels all strip gears in less then one year while my citicas and revos still run strong under the same workload I was forced to come to a extemely biased conclusion...lol :-X

The best reel is the always one that works best for you of course :(

fishing user avatarhawgchaser reply :

Hey, I understand. If I got burned like that, and I have, then I will never go back.

I have acquired 5 quantum reels and several rods over the last few years and have loved them all. Hopefully my luck will continue.

fishing user avatarbigmountaineer reply :

That place was crazy this morning, I got there at 8 am and I was 5th in line and they only had 100, w/ a limit of three they were gone quick. Got my three though !!

fishing user avatarStingray23 reply :

Thats just crazy. A line forming outside of BPS at 8am.

fishing user avatarGonzoFishing reply :

I got to the Miami BPS at 9:15 and there were 3 people waiting in line. Then one of them pulled out an ad that showed the store opening at 9:00 so he went to the manager and he let us in early. They only had 12 reels on hand and I managed to get 2 of them. 1 left hand for me and a right hand for my brother. If he doesnt come up with the cash then I'll sell or trade it. Suks because the right hand is the 7 to 1 burner. No biggie though!  ;D

fishing user avatardmac14 reply :

Got to mine early nobody in line. Had about 50. Only brought enough money for one tho  :-/

fishing user avatardallas0996 reply :

Got mine at Foxboro this morning; there was a line and it was one apiece, they only had 65 and they were all burners...

Tell ya, I am completely impressed thus far...just by the difference between this one (fit, finish and extra features) and my Inferno that I got on sale last year; I mean I am totally a baitcaster noob, but it's like having to learn how to cast again....  :(

fishing user avatarbigmountaineer reply :

They had 100 at the garland texas one, and it was limit of three. they were all burners as well.

These are great for a noob. They are the easiest reels to adjust. Put it on 6 and tighten the spool at first. Then you can loosen it up as you get better.

fishing user avatarBig Mike in Fl reply :

got to orlando BPS at 9:15 because I took the wrong exit off of I-4...all sold out, 200 in 10 minutes >:( >:) >:( >:( >:( with a limit of one a piece

wound up getting two bps extremes, hope they are ok, they were my back up plan

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

I did pick up one of the reels and one thing I would like to know! First I did get the burner but the flippin switch is REAL HARD to move, are your reels flippin switch hard to move too or did I get bad apple?

Mine was wicked tight at first, but after I slid it back and forth once, it was good.

I have another question;  I looked online and couldn't find anything to reference it.  In the center of the reel handle there is a slotted adjuster that I am not familiar with....what's it for?  finer adjustment of the mag brake?

fishing user avatarbigmountaineer reply :

I believe its designed that way so that you won't be switchin between the two modes with some effort. It'll keep the reel from going between the two modes when you dont' want that too happen.

I got two reels and they both do the same.

Thanks for the info! But mine would not switch, I had to use a something  that was hard and push it to switch,I could not push it with my fingers! I will try to break it it and maybe it will get better!

fishing user avatarbigmountaineer reply :

Hopefully or just return it

Well, I started to play with the flippin switch and it did get alot better. I can now switch it by pushing it with my fingers. I will keep doing it to where I maybe get it just a bit better. Thanks for all the help. :(

fishing user avatarChiCityBasser reply :

This is a great reel and haven't had any problems with mine other than the same hard switching from regular to flipping mode which when I worked a bit did get easier. There is a review of the Accurist CX II on http://tackletour.com and this is a step up from that reel.

Love mine and got it off ebay for a bigger discount.

I have no idea either what the numbers on the crank are but this reel has no magnets in it. It is strictly centrifugal braking.

Contact Quantum and they should be able to explain.

ah i missed out! i wanted a few more of those things :-/

This is a line reminder to tell you what test is on the reel.

Does not affect performanve in any way.
