I just bought the stradic FI 3000 today.Now all I need to do is put some line on it and save some money to buy a rod on it.But till then I am going to put it on my 7 ft M dropshot rod.I am wanting to get a Abu Garcia Veritas 7ft MH

IMO a 2500 size reel is perfect for bass fishing. Light, plenty of line capacity, large enough spool to not make unmanageable line coils.

A 2500 size Shimano is perfect for bass fishing, but a 3000 can be used for more things. Up here, you could run into brow trout and rainbows in the teens, a northern around ten pounds, drum up to twenty, and big bowfin - all of which can make some pretty good runs, especially if you're using light line. You made a good choice, I have a Stradic that is at least ten years old.

I love a 2500 size Shimano, but my next will be the 3000 because I've been told that even though the two are almost identical, the 3000 will handle 8# FC better than the 2500. I have a Stradic CI4 2500 and other than a select couple of FC's, that I don't like, it doesn't handle 8# very well. Nothing wrong with the reel...just the nature of the beast.

Yeah after I got my reel I changed my fluorocarbon line from my sedona to my stradic fi.The line is 8 lbs seaguar invizx line and it really wrapped the line tighter than it was on my sedona which I was very impressed by.I haven't casted it though so we will see what happens.When I transfer line like that I just tie it on the reel and just reel it off the other spool.I dont know if any of you do that or not but it seems to work pretty good.

Why not buy a 3000 spool from shimano?

Phil, I'd like to hear what the explanation is that the 3000 reel handles 8# "better," because it doesn't make any sense to me. I'd hate to see you drop the cash, even if just for the spool, on something that probably won't be any improvement.

Personally, not all 8# fluorocarbon is the same. I put some 8# Trilene 100% on a CI4 2500.....junk. Slapped the blank when casting, lopped like crazy, not smooth at all. 8# Invizx was a whole different story. I didn't try 6# Trilene 100%, but 6# Invizx was even better. So good, it's what I stuck with. That 5-12 in my avatar was hauled in with that rig.

Actually down here in Florida a 2500 FI gets used for more than bass fishing also. My son jumped a 100 lb tarpon on that little reel on Sunday. Broke the line on the 2nd jump but it was no fault of the reel. Later in the day his buddy pulled a nice snook out of the trees. I like that there are 2 spools so I can have one with copolymer and one with 10 lb braid ready to go. And they just went on sale everwhere under $140. I may have to pick up another one!

I don't have an explanation, only assumption. I was just going off word of mouth. This topic came up before and several told me they had both and the 3000 handles the stiffer 8# fluoros better than the 2500 would so I assumed this was true. I agree 100% no 8# fc is the same. Invizx 8# is excellent on my 2500 but had too much stretch for my shakeyhead set-up. Alot of it was I was using a Cumara CUS-DX72M 7'2" Med X-Fast (another recommendation by many on here) as a shakeyhead rod when in fact it's a drop-shot rod. When I said all other 8# fc's sucked on my 2500 except 2 that I didn't like, I was talking about Invizx and Tatsu. Didn't like Invizx because of the stretch and Tatsu because it cost so much. I'm now using that Cumara for what it was intended to be used for, drop-shot and I got a GLoomis SHR822S Mag-Med for shaking a couple of weeks ago. It's alot stronger on the hook-set so I might give Invizx another shot.

I want to be able to use Toray Solaroam Upgrade 8# or Shooter 8# on my shakeyhead. What am I going to have to do to be able to throw those stiff lines, go to a 4000? Or is it just not going to work on spinning gear?

I prefer the 3000 shimanos over the 2500 for fresh and saltwater , holds more line and the grips are bigger (not that you need the extra line bass fishing but for saltwater is comes in handy)..I have never heard of a 3000 handling braid better than a 2500...And I know of a lot of guys that use both for inshore saltwater fishing..

I went fishing with my new reel today.I did pretty good throwing my weightless ocho.I just gotta get used to it.Been using the sedona for so long.I didnt catch anything on it but I did catch something on my baitcaster with my new northland spinnerbaits.I love those thing.Best spinner I have ever had.I thought the Manns vampire spinnerbait was good lol.
