Gander Mountain Gsx Tournament Rod 2024

fishing user avatarPitchinJigz reply :

I bought a Gander Mountain GSX Tournament casting rod not too long ago because they were on sale for $50 when they're usually $100 (they still are). I really, really like the rod and am thinking about switching my whole arsenal to these rods. My one question is: who makes these rods? I've heard a few different things, but I'd really appreciate if someone knew and could tell me. That's all, thanks.

Not sure who makes the Tournament series rods for GM, the Elite series is a *** product.

That's one thing that I did find. Just can't find the maker of the GSX Tournament. Maybe an employee would know? I'm not sure.

Maybe quantum? I know they made that series of reels for gander

I don't think it's Quantum. The rods seem to be in a different planet when it comes to quality compared to the GSX Tournament reels.

Love these rods too! Wish I would have bought some more when the sale was on

They're still on sale online. They may be discontinuing them, so I'd act fast if you want more. They just came out with the new Tournament LE series for $100 (the same price as the GSX) so I can't see them keeping the GSX.

Made by Pluefger?? Just guessing. Their reels are made by daiwa I think. Or by quantum

I believe their reels are both Quantum and Pflueger, depending on the model. It definitely could be a Pflueger rod, but then I'd assume it was a Fenwick because Pflueger and Fenwick are joined together by a parent company and even sell eachothers' products on their sites.

Yes After thinking about it, their rods are probably made by Fenwick. Both Fenwick and Pluefger are owned by Pure Fishing, so it is hard to say which company makes the rod. I'm pretty sure that no other company would have made these rods. They look nothing like quantum, shimano, or abu rods. They might be St. Croix's, but I Highly doubt it. I'll place my money on the Fenwick.

Yeah, it would make sense. Pure Fishing has been known to do a lot of work for store brands. If it is Fenwick, id be pretty happy. Fenwick makes a great product.

Yah I am 99% it is a fenwick rod. Fenwick also makes a rod for Cabelas called the "Silverhawk" which has Fuji Alconite guides too, and looks exactly the same expect for the paint. From what I heard, the SilverHawk is a really good rod and so should the Tournament rod be then.

That would be interesting to know if it is Fenwick.  If it is, I would be interested in checking them out.

That would make perfect sense considering Pflueger does Gander reels. Fenwick blanks are great. The guides on the GSX Tournament are Fuji too, and are very nice.

Are you sure Pluefger does Gander Reels? I know they do BPS reels, but not Gander reels. Daiwa also does cabelas reels.

fishing user avataraavery2 reply :

BPS reels are manufactured by a company named DAWON in South Korea.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I'm under the impression that Gander is Shakespeare and Pflueger (both Pure Fishing). Also, I believe BPS is the only brand that does their own, actually. Cabelas reels are by Okuma and Daiwa.

I'm not sure about the who makes the gsx, but a buddy of mine works at gander and said all of the newer rods are made by 13.

I don't know about that. I know the Elite is, but the GSX doesn't look anything like a 13 Rod. Also, the new LE's that are replacing the GSX are the same but with a different color. It could be 13 I guess. I just wish stores would come right out and say who makes them.

Even if it isn't, I'd recommended just feeling them in the store at least. Very balanced.

I don't understand why they can't just tell us. I may send out a few emails basically saying that knowing what brand it is would help my buying experience. Might get a little info out of them.

Interesting. I didn't know that. BPS makes very nice reels, though. The JM Sig Series is a sweet reel.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I got to chance to fish this rod and was impressed.  I also tried the same branded reel out (not the combo set up, which oddly is a different rod and reel) and it was really nice.  The rod was hard to compare to anything else I have fished.  At $50, I can't imagine a rod that is as sensitive, light and as well made as this one.

One thing that though, it didn't have that cheap rod feel.  I guess the closest I would be able to compare it to, would be the Shimano Crucial but it would be a step below in quality.  I think at $50 it is a steal.

I have to agree with that. It's definitely much nicer than any $50 rod I've ever felt. I think it performs above its retail of $100, too.

I have the 7'6" MH casting rod, and I use it for c-rigs and frogs in medium cover, and it is a nice rod. I paid 100 for it, and i would compare it to a fenwick hmx ( which is a nice little rod ) I also have the GSX elite and they are quite a large step up in my opinion...

I think for $50 it's the best rod you're going to get.
