Personal Experience With Tatula Or Mid-Range Lews? 2024

I've narrowed my search into an area i'm pretty comfortable with, and I was hoping to get feedback if you have personal experience with either the Daiwa Tatula or a Mid-Range Lews Baitcasting reel. (Speed Spool Tournament TS1H?)
I've read great things about both brands, and the models seem to hold up well to reviews, but i'd like the opinions of those who have used them.

Once I found out the taulas are under retail on the auction sites and the zon' call me count tatula, bout to order 2-3 Regular and R's

I can't compare to the LEWS but I will say that the Tatula is an awesome reel. I will say that I LOVE and would choose my Tatula over the Daiwa T3 Ballistic any day of the week.

Bought a Tatula the day they came out...now I have 4 (2 100H, 100p, and a R100H). That should tell you what you need to know.

I have a tatula r and have owned a bunch of Lews reels including the one in question. It's really a toss up for me. They both weigh the same. The Lews is easier to palm since it's a smaller frame but the tatula isn't awkward to me either. Daiwas magforce braking is very efficient but the Lews has dual brakes. It's kinda nice because you can just set it and forget about it. Then use the mag for small changes. Lews has a U shaped spool but I prefer flat spools. The line lays nicer with the tws on the daiwa and flat spool. The tatula doesn't have a bearing supported worm gear and just 1 bearing in each handle. You can add those 3 bearings for about $5 though. You'll be happy with either reel. Take your rod and mount both reels and see which one feels the best to you in hand.

I will never buy another lew's reel in my life unless they get rid of that darn dual braking. I can't stand it.. The tatula on the other hand is one heck of a caster, and is not finicky at all on the cast.

No it doesn't affect the performance but I palm the reel and it is larger. If I was able to see one before I bought my ® I may not have got it.
Other than that the only complaint I've had was to flush the bearings you have to take both side covers off

The lews Mg and super duty and magnetic brakes only so there are options at that price.
I know the tatula is the newest latest greatest thing but I did not like it. I was lucky enough to pick up a t3 on clearance which I much prefer.
The Lews are great reels and you won't be dissapointed in either choice. I prefer the Tournament speed spool or tournament Mg. As they palm much better for me.

The mg and super duty have linear magnetic braking which is less advanced compared to daiwa's mag z which is dynamic, and --- nevermind you all know how mag z/v works.

I can't comment on the Lews, but I have two Tatulas and plan on buying a third shortly. I fish three to four days a week and haven't had any issues with my Tatulas thus far. They're very smooth and I get great distance on my casts.

I have both reels in question and they basically equal to me in the end. Lews is great because all there reels are the same and palm the same. The tatulas brakes are better IMO then centrifugal brake but they both cast equally well.
Tatulas are cheaper though and I will probably just buy more tatulas from now on. As a matter of fact I bought a other one today for $105 BNIB. At that price there is no real that can beat it.

Can you elaborate on this opinion about dual breaks? Up until now, all of my reels have been dual brake, and I like them because I can set the centrifugal where I want, then make minor adjustments with the mag. I am hesitant to get something that isn't dual, what is it you don't like about them?

I had a lews tourney pro and it casted incredibly with ease. Handled a wide range of baits and was super smooth. the brakes were a bit squirely i usually use shimano. This could be because i was so used to using the shimano though. That being said i have read that the spring loaded variations were probably the reason compared to the more free flowing brakes on the vbs shimanos. It was super convenient having the magnetic for the wind. I really liked the reel but had to return it at day 88 in the 90 period because the drag started clicking and slipping on me. I was pretty bummed i really liked it.

I must admit, I am surprised to hear someone say the dual braking is bad on the Lew's, that is some of the best brakes I have fished with. It sounds like you would like the Lew's BB1 brakes, they are just like the Shimano's with the six-pin centrifugal braking system.
As far as the baitcasters go, IMO, you will not go wrong with either reel, I LOVE the Daiwa Tatula and If I could only take one reel it would be the Lew's Team Pro's that I own but that is a major price difference. If you were to put a $100.00 Lew's VS the $100 Daiwa Tatula, it isn't even close. The Daiwa Tatula wins every time. I think if you want to palm the reels go with the Lew's tournament, that one has dual braking so it will throw better but if palming isn't needed I would go Tatula.

I have no experience with the tatula, but have read a lot about it. It seems people are having trouble with the t wing system. Evidently the line is cutting into the material on the t wing. Kinda makes me shy away from the reel, which is a shame because everyone says it's a well put together reel. I wonder if there's a way to do away with the t wing cheap and just put a eye on the worm gear? Interested in seeing if anyone has modified one.

I think you might be talking about the T3 Ballistic and that T wing system. There was a situation with braid grooving the metal but it was later figured out that it was the rods spiral guides.

There is a review on *** with the new tatula. Said him and a few friends are having trouble with the t wing system grooving. Grooving with flouro and braid. I understand there are always bad reviews for all reels though. May just be a problem with a small run of reels. They look like a well built reel for the price and I guess it'd be worth a shot for the 110 bucks that you can find them for.

I have just seen the one instance of grooving on the Tatula and I don't trust its legitimacy, to be honest. The pictures didn't look like grooving from line to me. I have 4 Tatula's with various types of line and have not had a single issue with any of them.

I have tried both now.. and must say.. I feel the Tatula was meant to be a BB1 killer.. and while they cast a mile.. for the over all line.. the Lew's is hard to beat.. palmability is a HUGE deal to me.. and since the BB1 Pro came out.. for long casting that would be my choice.. and Tourney Pro for the rest of the jobs.. . well crap a Super Duty would be a nasty Frog reel...

I should've specified more, I've read a lot about the tatula reviews and such and it seems like a good reel, so I decided to check price on twh and that's where I seen bad review about the grooving, but some people could tear up anything. I just some people claimed the t wing on the t3 was "cheaply made" and figured it may have been a problem on tatula.
It was only one bad review on tatula, really. Like I said there are bad reviews on all reels, and a lot of those guys that write reviews on twh prob treat their stuff rough.
Anyway it seems since you can get this reel cheap, that it'd be worth it.
I've also seen the bb1 for similar prices, which is a reel that I love. Only thing I wish it had was adjustability from side plate.

If you want to do that, why bother buying Tatula to start with?

There is none. Just if you already had tatula and had problems with the system, which doesn't seen like a issue.

I saw a total of one mention on tackle wearhouse* about the t wing being grooved.
for 100 bucks I am seriously considering the 6.3 for my crank bait rod
