Looking to try something new... I'm looking at Izorline, P-line and Gamma. Any experiences you can share about these would be appreciated.
Any possible comparisons to XT would be great as well.
Thanks,
Keith
Wasup Flech,
Izorline is really good line. I like the xxx
It has low memory, I use 2lbs test for trout fishing and have had no problems with 4-5lbs trout.
P-line, which one? I like the original P-line and CXX, really strong and has some memory, but very abrasion resistant. I use the 15 and 25lbs test for barracuda and tuna fishing out here in socal
However, I do think you should stay away from the Pline Floroclear..... I liked it at first but found after some fishing it started to break easier and the abrasion reistance isn't really on Par.
Give Izor XXX a shot... I think you will like!
Get some CXX, it makes for a much better slinky than XT.
I recently tried the new CX Premium. #6 can be broken by hand!
I got so mad I threw it away instead of taking it back.
Floroclear cannot be trusted, either.
Gamma Copolymer is great, but seems overpriced to me.
Stay away from their Fluorocarbon, it is unfishable on spinning
tackle and probably has more memory than P-Line on a baitcaster.
Thanks, Gentlemen. I probably should clarify... whatever I end up trying, it will be in the #14, #17 & #20 ratings only. All on BC gear.
Also any differences in cold weather noticed?
Seriously, I know several guys on here love them some
P-Line CXX and you might, too. However, I fished #6 on
spinning tackle and #17 on baitcasting equipment for
several years. It's tough and strong, no doubt, but it's wiry.
In the cold, #17 in particular, will not straighten out.
Regarding Gamma, I have only fished #10 which doesn't
really fit me. So, with limited experience, I rate it up with
Yo-Zuri. Gamma does not develop kinks from overruns,
so that is an advantage over Hybrid. The line is very strong,
smooth and limp. It also blends well in water.
The downside is price. Maybe the cost is not outrageous, but
it is irritating.
8-)
Seems I have also heard that the CXX is pretty "xt-like". I wonder of the CX is the same?
I've been reading up on Izorline... (I made the mistake of googling it)
I have to admit I am intrigued. The platinum is said to be very tough and abrasion resistant, and I gather from other reports it would also act sort of like XT. I haven't found much on the xxx.
We get 2-3 full pages a week on ugly sticks... :
Where are all the P-lne and Izorline users?
I have been using CX Premium for years. Very strong. Super manageable. My favorite line. I try lots of lines and end up coming back to CX Premium. I use 6# and 8# on my spinning rigs, 12# and 15# on my bait casters. Very small diameter for breaking point.
Unlike RW I have never had breaking problems. I have actually cut my hands many times trying to break off the 6# when hung up. My PB was caught on spinning gear with 6#. The fish weighed 6 and change.
CXX is less manageable (more memory) but you could use it to haul timber. Super strong and abrasion resistant. The KVD conditioner works well on it. I like the 6# for spinning. I would buy it again. Once I'm finished with the 15# spool I have I will not buy more, I just like the CX Premium better.
Hope this helps. If you would like I will send you partial spools of 15# CXX and CX Premium for free. Just send me a PM with your addy and I'll put it in the mail Monday. You have certainly helped out others on this board and I would enjoy helping you.
Great offer and feedback, thanks! No need to send me the line, I have a buddy that works at the local academy so I can probably get them for the cost of your shipping them to me. I appreciate the offer though, very nice of you.
How is the CX as far as abraision resistance? I fish a lot of timber and rocks?
Thanks
I fish a man made residential lake with cement bulkheads that has lots of chunks of cement with rebar tossed into the lake by the construction crews. 12 and 15 lb. CX Premium holds up well when dragged over that stuff. Braid gets eaten alive.

I do NOT recommend CX Premium. Maybe higher pound
ratings are fine, but I will never know.
My observations of various P-line products:
CX Premium = junk, F.
CXX X-tra Tough = A+
Fluoroclear = junk, F
100% Fluorocarbon = OK, B-
100% Fluorocarbon Leader Material: + Very Good, A-

CX is good line. CXX is good line.
I HIGHLY recommend both.
I vote for McCoy Mean Green. The best mono I have ever used.
I tried CXX last year after some recommendation from this forum. The good news it was really strong line. The problem for me is that this line has way too much memory which became unmanageable. I really like the P-line fluorocarbon and use it on my a few of my baitcasters.
Flech,
I'm sure all the lines you mentioned will get the job done. I only use CXX, and love the stuff. It is tough. If you were worried about abrasions I don't know how anything can be better. you should see the size of some of the logs I've been able to pull up with the stuff. It does have memory, but regular KVD use helps a bunch. I've never had it not straighten out after just a few minutes of fishing. In fact with use of KVD this year I didn't respool at all. Last year I did change about 3 times though.
Imo, the memory is more than manageable for the gains in abrasion resistance. Also I wouldn't mess with anything higher than 15. The 15 will be more than stout enough for you.
Matt
Thanks for the info everyone!
KVD L&L resolves that issue. Also, its so strong, no need to go over 12# for *most* applications.QuoteThe problem for me is that this line has way too much memory which became unmanageable.
There's no doubt that Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft is stronger per its stated # test than Floroclear or CX. However, at both #6 and #12, so far the YZ-US has not provided enough additional strength to prevent me from losing baits due to snags in heavy cover (similar situations).
In terms of line memory, to me the unbiased test is my father who uses my crankbait rod for pumpkin seeds ("Kibbies" as he calls them). He doesn't care about the equipment used, and just fishes for fun. He was impressed by the smoothness of the Stradic 2500FH with #6 floroclear and #8 CX. He paid no attention to the line. However, I did not tell him when I switched to #6 YZ-US; he quickly complained about line-twist and tangles and switched to my other rod...
It also may not be appropriate to compare #6 CX to #6 YZ-US, since the YZ-US is thicker and stiffer.
# 6 YZ-US is .010 inches thick
# 8 CX is only 0.0092 inches thick
#10 Floroclear is 0.10 inches thick
While I intend to continue experimenting with YZ line, I will be comparing it to lines with similar diameters and line handling characteristics.
Cheers
Leon
I would move on and not bother with comparing either CX or Fluoroclear, as they aren't even in the ballpark compared to Yo Zuri or CXX X-tra Tough.
Most line from P-Line in my mind are very good. I pretty much only use the 100% flurocarbon so its not really fair to compare. I haven't tried Izorline yet, but it does look promising. Gamma, even though it is a good line (except the price), after what they did to their pro staff, I don't think I can support them and will ever buy their line again.
Flechero,
I used Izorline XXX pretty much all summer long and really like the stuff. I have bulk spools of #10, #12, #20 and I think #15 (its in the boat so I cant check now).
If you want a filler spool of any of those to try out, shoot me a PM with your address and how much you want and I will get it out to you ASAP.
That's mighty nice!
8-)
Stick with the XT or Big Game.
QuoteThat's mighty nice!8-)
Sure is!
Nemesis,
I appreciate it, but don't want you to go through the trouble. I can order a couple filler spools to try out. (I would have sent you money for your trouble anyway.)
Can you compare it to XT or some other line I might be familiar with? That will tell me enough to know if I want to try it out.
Many thanks!
Keith
I have been fishing Ixzorline XXX since it came out. Since then everyone here in the office has switched over to it for saltwater use. I have fished it all over the country and cannot complain. I flip with it, fish saltwater with it and anything imagineable. It simply does not break easily and it has almost no memory. I think its the best Copolymer line on the market.
P-Line is strong but its also thicker than normal line in the same line class. You can fish 8 instead of 10 for example. The memory sucks for sure...
I just wish they made XXX in green like P-Line and Maxima :'(

I'll bite, but the specs are not on their website.
Which weight do you recommend for spinning
tackle and which do you suggest for baitcasting?
On sale at Delo's:

I used P-LINE for a long time but switched to IZORLINE about two years ago and really like it. Use the xxx it is limper than the Platnuim.
I use 10lb test for my texas/rig, 15lb for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.
Flechero,
Bantom1 pretty much nailed what I was going to say.
Its been a long time since I used anything but PLine CXXX, and this line is definetly on par with it, doesnt kink as much and a lot more managable for me.
Roadwarrior,
Thats a great price on the filler spools, but if your looking for more yards per spool, here is where I get mine from. 1/4lbs spools are the same price as the filler spools at Delo's. http://www.acidrod.com/line.html

I'm intrigued by this line and would like to try it for sure. Only hesitation I have is similar to RW. No specs for line on the Izorline website. I plan to order a couple spools from acidrod.com and try it out. It's so much cheaper than the Berkley Fluoro Professional I've been using.
Specifically
#6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid .010" diameter, 11.9 lb test
#12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid .013" diameter, 19.5 lb test
Which Izorline size/weight/number closely matches
these parameters? One for spinning tackle, one for
baitcasting gear.
I crank, topwater and spinnerbait with 10-12 mostly (sometimes 15) and I flip/pitch and T-Rig with 15-20. I use 25 for my bigger swimbaits. I only used 4 and 6 pound for my spinning reels. I pretty much only use this line on my baitcast reels now because I have switched to FC for light line now.
What specs do you need? The bulk spools I have in my desk do not have diameter listed on the label. I know that the 12# I checked broke at 21 pounds So its plenty strong for the diameter. I would guess that they are average for the line class so .012" for 12# for example.
I use 12-40 for my saltwater stuff. I can pull calico bass out of thick kelp with 15#. Thats a tough task on light line and this stuff works for that task
RW,
I just pulled out my micrometer, its my old back up for work and is fairly accurate, but not nearly as accurate as my one I have at work.
#10 - 0.012
#12 - 0.0135
#20 - 0.0175
My #15 is in the boat, if you need that, I can go dig it out.
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for!

Keith, I've been using the Izor XXX since the Classic last year. They ran a great special on it at the expo, three spools of 300 yards for about $12. It's under rated so 12 pound is really like 14 and so on. It's pretty small diameter for it's rating and I like the smoke color. It's not to bad about stretch and is low memory unless it's been on the spool a long time. A trilene knot will slip in this stuff so better use a palomar or uni instead. I had been using Gama and CX but like this stuff better by a bunch. On the CXX, that's some tuff stuff for sure. About all it's good for, IMO, is flipping bigger biats that will work out the memory rather quickly. Other than that, it's llike Kent said, slinky.
Great info guys, exactly what I wanted to know! So now, thanks to you guys... I'll be placing my 2nd *** order of the day... just need to add a few things to make $50 for free shipping. ...lol
It's becoming an expensive day.
I have experience with the Gamma Copoly so that's all I can comment on ....
It's on every reel I own except for my braid set ups. It's my personal choice for best "all around" line. To me it's meets the fine line between the managibility/toughness.
I would say it is very similar to YZ Hybrid maybe being a tad tougher and it doesn't have the "kink" factor that RW mentioned.

I almost always buy bulk spools but not when trying out new stuff. Once I try it out and make a decision, then the bulk spools get ordered. I ordered a couple Izorline and P-Line 300yd spools to try out on next week's trip.
+1 for McCoys Mean Green. I have tried P-line everything, horrible memory. Mean Green is cheap, available in bulk spools (try TW) and is in 10, 12, 15, 17, and 20. I fish all of them and if I hang up the 20 on a carolina rig, I need help to break it. Just my experience... I'm trying some Suffix right now (free with reel purchase) and I'll share some thoughts once i get it wet.
not to thread jack but what is the difference between a copolymer and a straight flouro? Does the copolymer have the invisibility of flouro or what? Something I have been wondering for awhile
Ive tried every single pline made, and the only one I like is Halo. Its pricey for sure, but it is quite amazing. I can leave it on my spinning setup for months, has no slinky type memory, and is super strong. Doesnt start breaking when I tie a knot and tug on it after a couple months like these other lines. I dont want to switch my line that often, couple times a year max. Halo lets me do that, and the mist green is awesome
All 6lb test on spinning setups unless noted:
CX premium. Horrible. Memory was really bad, and it started breaking on me tying palomers after being on the spool maybe a week. Ripped it all off immediately and went back to Halo. Bought a 12 lb spool for my baitcaster but didnt bother putting it on yet since braid is on now.
Flouroclear. Worked well, was quite strong at first but seemed to detiororate quickly. After about a month it was slinky status and broke knots when pulled on after tieing.
Evolution. This is the stuff I put on my girlfriends spinning pole in 8lb test. Its quite a bit thicker then halo but does last a decent while. It starts breaking knots when tugged on after about 2-3 months. I just respooled her the other day to finish the spool off so probably wont buying that again.
I think I remember trying CXX super strong but if I did it didnt make a good impression nor stay on my reel long. If I remember right it turned into a slinky within a few weeks.
I really dont stress my lines that much, I always use ball bearing swivels to prevent twisting no matter what Im throwing. I mainly throw senkos with this rig, its the one in my sig. All sandy bottom where I was fishing too, very little weeds.
