In the next couple of days I will be spending 250$ on rods (the wife is out of town.. lol) I want to buy 2 split grips
Here is 3 brands i'm thinking about...
St Crox mojo
E21 Carrot Stix
Cabelas Prodigy
What are your thoughts? other suggestions are welcome also, thanks.
I personally love falcon rods, I have two cara t7's and a lowrider. Going to be a bucoo today actually
Since, you have cabela's rod listed, how about xml? I've been using it for awhile and love it.

if i could have caught those when they were on sale for 40 bucks it would have been a no brainer .. but my 250$ budget is really tight and 280 is something i just cant swing... you may ask then how the e21s? i have a deal lined up... but the falcons have just joined my list... thanks for making it harder to choose ... although they may have bumped the prodigy... thanks for the adivce and please keep it comming
Are you buying a complete setup for $250 or just the rod. If youve got little cash but still want an awesome rod, give Gblanks a try. Great rods at an affordable price. ;D
I highly recommend the Extreme series from Bass Pro Shop. I have the Woo Dave, split grip, spinning, MF, 6'8", spinning rod and I absolutely love it.

I want two rods only, for 250... thats the goal.. rods that are between 7'-7.5' one mh and the other h.
Question on the Bucoo (if anyone knows... ) does the back of your palm come in direct contact with the blank on the split grip? with this particular model? Nice looking rod though... the e21 is really what I'm looking at the most... but problem is I'll have to get them from cali... but I'm leaving the country to go back to Korea on the 8th and need them before i leave... so if i can get something just as good quicker, then that's what i want to do... that's why I'm in a pickle
oh and i forgot to mention i need casting rods
i wouldnt buy a Mojo until youve played with one in the store.
to be honest i wouldnt buy any rod without handling it first.
enless youre just dead set on split grips id look at both falcon lowriders and fenwick hmg's. to me personally i dont think i can feel the bite any better with split grip rods.
Yeah the XML's were a good deal when there were on sale but you might think about these also.

They look pretty good but haven't tried one myself but they are 2pc rods

the first three i mentioned i have handled in the store. the mojo was my least fav of the three and the prodigy just seemed a little flimsy... i have yet to see the bucoo... i do really want split grips though.. for me the split grip is about comfort.. like BSP power hump but with out the weight of super thick cork.

yeah... I'm a huge damiki fan... i wouldn't buy a 2 piece rod though for Bass fishing... but the Dark Angel and Angel blade look great. when i get to Korea i plan on trying to get a job with them... i would buy them right now but they are cheaper in Korea. so i'll wait till i get there... Everyone here should be on the look out of this brand they have made a hudge splash at ICAST for the last 2 years
I have to agree with the Prodigy feeling a little flimsy when I tried them out in the store myself.
Im not sure about the palm thing on the bucoo, but falcon rods are actually made in broken arrow, OK. Which is convenient because they are located just a few miles from me. I am going into the store in a minute and I will check them out an hopefully be able to answer your queston

sweet thanks!
went and looked at the bucoo. was kinda confused on your question once I got there. If you are holding the rod asif you were palming your reel your palm does not touch the blank but it has the exposed reel seat so your fingers do. If you are holding the rod at the grip your palm does come in contact with the blank below the grip. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions I might be able to help
I sold both of my Carrots for Shimano Crucial Dropshots. Couldn't be happier.

So what were your impressions... did they feel wimpy or strong... did you actually get to seat a reel on one to feel the balance? what where your thoughts?
I didnt get to put a reel on it. I would not go with the heavy action one it almost felt more like a mh, but they mh felt true to action. it was weird. I liked it a lot. If they had the rod for the purpose I need I would have gotten a bucoo for sure but I needed one for flippin and pitchin that I also wanted to use for striper so I went with a cara
The easy answer is two custom Gblanks rods. Order it with black foam and brushed aluminum winding checks....badarse! They will run you $125 each....

how long do they take? i only have 8 days.

That's a ML/F, not M/F. Good rod but not heavy enough for t-rigged plastics, imho. Great rod for Trick Worms and Floaters, though.
why dont you drive someplace and pick out two rods? there has to be a Dicks or something close.
Quotewhy dont you drive someplace and pick out two rods? there has to be a Dicks or something close.
there are like 4 dicks a cabelas a bass pro and a lot of other places near bye.. dicks is over priced... and basspro and cabelas don't carry half of what companies offer... look at the difference in reel and rod selection of the high end brands from bass pro to tackle warehouse and you will see what i mean..
I'd give the mojo a try. I tried a bunch of different split grips before I got a mojo. The mojo feels just like my steez and the price cant be beat. If you live near a popular bass lake custom rod shops are popping up all over. You can get a custom built rod made to fit your needs for far less money than the major brands, but it might take more than eight days.

lmao, you're kidding, right?
cabelas has some of those xml rods on a super sale,id also check out the falcon bucoo ($110) awesome rod.the carrot stix even though it cathes alot of flack on here i love mine,NEVER a problem and it gets fished alot and hard.im in the market to see how those new abu garcia vendetta rods are and handle when they hit the shelves in a few months.
and btw i have some mojos and a steez...they are nothing alike and dont even come close to compair to the steez is a god like rod the mojo is jester of a rod

the idea of this is.......................even though these stores dont have every model of rods, they have a few. you can take a reel and store test them, then order the action you want instead of going off the opinions of those that might love what you hate.
nothing stinks more than dropping $250 on 2 rods you dont like.

they will take a little longer then 8 days, but you can have them shipped to a buddy's house,
GBlanks are getting alot of recognition around here lately and its for a good reason, the quality of the build is amazing and the support and service provided by Larry is second to none, alot more then you'll get from the big chains. Take a look, its worth your time.
Another vote for GBlanks.
i love my carrot stix gold! my personal favorite out of about 15 high end rods.take that for what its worth.
All right... I called all the tackle shops in the area and BPS was the only one who had a BuCoo and they had 1.... i walked around the store for hours playing with every rod in there... the Bucoo has got to be the most balenced rod under 200 dollars and more balanced then some over 200. When you hold the rod there is little to no, tip heavy pull on your rist... all the st crox rods pulled... i was so impreased with the bucoo that i bought it.. i'll be ordering the second one tomorrow... i also bought a CI200E cause there so lite... it's like a match made in heaven... thanks so much for all the advice and the next time i'm in the states.. i'll prool buy a pair of Gblanks too. I pitched for an hour straight with this lite combo and my wrist isn't sore at all.
With the BuCoo and the CI200E.. total weight is less than 12 oz .. just awesome
Powell Max rods at $139.99 with split grips/no fore grip they are the best rod for the $ IMO!!!

Have you fished with a steez rod? I have the 7 mh and I can honestly say the mojo feels just like it except for the cork handle.

your comparing apples to oranges man...plus a lifetime warranty..ALL fuji components, the aluminum foregrip nut, waaaay more technology is in that steez then the mojo could think of,i to have both and blindfold me and i can tell the HUGE difference between the two thats like saying a corvette is the same, just as good or better then a Ferrari :
ive got a Mojo ill sell for half the price of a Steez if its that good of a rod.

agreed. The Mojos are blown away by the Avids which are then again blown away by the Legend Tournaments let alone a friggin' Steez.

I love it when a guy asks about 3 specific rods, and all the experts jump in , about rods way out of the pricing point the fella is working in & some of whom do not even own the rods they are talking about.

No, and where I fish most men don't need light low profile reels, and a high dollar rod to catch fish.

Man your the one who brought it up and said you had a steetz and it was the same as your mojo.. but in the end ... Let the thread die I already bought the dang rod 3 days ago... No one has said the Mojo is a peice of crap.. it's a nice rod but it is Not even a Corvette IMO. It's more like a Jetta... Nice car looks good and gets the job done, when it's brand new it's sweet to show off to your friends but it'll be in the junk yard in 10 years not a sunday driver.. know what I mean?
My BuCoo's will be hanging in old gear heaven someday too when i get better stuff doesn't mean i don't like them or excited about it..
I still really like and use my Ugly Stick Lite Pro's from Wally world... dang things will last for ever .. allready have rigs set up and planed to hand down to my two boys (1 and a half and 5 months) for when they are old enough to master the caster...
Weight is really important when your on the water for twelve hours straight. In the summer cause of the heat our local club holds night tournaments... Unlike the day tourneys that are 8 hours in spring and fall, we fish from 7pm to 7am with a weigh in half way through... they made it that way so people could go home at night if they wanted.. but who in there right mind is going to do that when there's fish in the lake and money on the line? I swear that after the first 8 hours I thought my dang arm was going to fall off shoulder burning like I had lifted weights all night... if I would have had this last month it would have been different... It's a shame I gotta go back to Korea the very same day of the next Tourney... or i might have pulled off my first win

says the guy with the steez rod and zillion reels...
Don't forget the steez reel, that thing owns . I have come to accept the fact that I will never be as cool as those of you who have the jdm core reels with avid rods, use berkley wannabe braid, and compare one six pin reel to another. :'( My feelings are hurt, but I will venture on not knowing the difference of three ounces.
So, just to make sure...You're cool with spending more than $400 on a Steez reel and rod but you don't see why people would spend LESS than that on an Avid or JDM reels? And if you don't appreciate 3oz then what was it that attracted you to the Steez products? It couldn't be sensitivity because you said yourself that your Mojo feels just like the Steez?
And since when are "six pin reels" inferior? It's a different style of brakes. It's no better or worse than MagForce, it's just different.
1. I didn't pay for my steez combo, but after using it I would gladly take on a second income to buy more.
2. This thread was about affordable split grip rods. I suggested a mojo and everyone went batshit crazy about the avids.
3. what was it that attracted you to the Steez products? I had a gift card for around $1000 bucks. I tried the digital shimano reels, and almost kept the calcutta dc. I told the clerk/salesman I was tired of seeing upgraded versions of a six pin reel so he broke out the steez at the time it was brand new, and still the lightest reel on the face of earth so I figured it wouldn't look good on anything but a matching rod. Not my money so I went for it.
4.The mojo is the bomb. No other rod a msrp of nintey bucks with a split grip comes close
Quote4.The mojo is the bomb. No other rod a msrp of nintey bucks with a split grip comes close
but one at 109 blows it away...... hahaha and i have 2...jelious? ;D
"upgraded version of six pin reels"
lol, for some reason you have this notion that six pins are inferior or cheap or something. but this is off topic, I'm gonna stop
Quote1. I didn't pay for my steez combo, but after using it I would gladly take on a second income to buy more.
Why, if a) where you fish most men don't need light low profile reels, and a high dollar rod to catch fish, and the Mojo is just as good as the Steez?
Quoteand still the lightest reel on the face of earth so I figured it wouldn't look good on anything but a matching rod. Not my money so I went for it.
That $1k gift card is yours so why wouldn't you return the Steez so you can buy 2 more Mojo's since a) you can't tell the difference, and you don't need it to impress anyone where you fish?
Let's move on...
Goodnight Irene.
