Fella's, my local tackle dealer called me and said my new Revo S's came in. Had to pick them up immediately. They are sweet. Very compact, lighter and a wider spool. They look awesome. They seem very smooth but I won't get to try them out until Friday. I picked up 3 of them to replace my Shimano Citicas. I'll let you know how they perform.
Awesome. The wider spool sounds good to me. Cant wait to hear how they perform.
Pics please!
I gotta wait until the 17th to get mine. Pics?

My fault BassMan....didn't make them public. Should be able to see them now I hope.
The reel looks awesome. I had preordered a STX on thehookuptackle and on the website it listed that the reels would ship Sept 2. On tacklewarehose it listed the reels not being available until 9/17? I'm not sure when I'll get the reel now but yours sure looks sweet. Let us know how the reel performs.
The Revo S will be my next reel, although the STX has been calling my name lately.

i preordered two STXs from THUP also. i emailed them this morning about the september 1 ship date and here's what they said:
QuoteThe expected ship date was from Abu Garcia to their dealers. We spoke to Abu yesterday and we are expecting the reels next week, by the 14th at the absolute latest. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Hey thanks for the update 21farms. Can't wait to start seeing reviews on the reels and getting the STX in my hands
nice pics. I love tackle porn. I just cant wait to play with mine. Its gonna be a loooooong 2 weeks
Hang in there Ryno, you might get them sooner. I ordered mine from my tackle guy last week and he got them quick. I've had to work the last couple of days but I'm sitting in my easy chair playing with the reels now. Hope to get them on the water this weekend. On 9/6/2012 at 8:05 AM, RyneB said:nice pics. Operation Revo S is done for me! Bought mine from BP online today.
I have 2 STX's Gen 2. I seriously doubt I will upgradet them for the new ones. These are sooooo smooth and sweet.
That would look sweet on a Veritas.
Good to hear they're starting to arrive. I just stopped my local tackle shop to see if my Gen3 STX has arrived yet. No joy, but hopefully soon.
Hope you enjoy your new reel.
bps is selling them like hotcakes online
Just heard from BPS. My Gen.3 SX has shipped.
d**n, haven't heard anything from thehookuptackle about my ordered STX. Wondering when I will even receive it.
My next reel will definitely have centrifugal brakes. My gen 2 SX is the last reel I will own that has mag brakes.

Crossing my fingers as mine should arrive today. Its being paired with a 7' medium micro guide Veritas.

Ive owned several in the past. I still have my Silver Max. I found they are much better suited as a pitching only reel than casting.

That's the beauty of the Gen3 STX. You get both types of brakes. Turn one or the other off if you don't like it. Or mix and match them to get the best of both worlds. Gen2 STX and Premier's have the same system.
Ordered a Revo S from BPS and took advantage of their 6 payment sale they have going on. Picked up a micro guide series 7' m/h veritas too. Gonna be sweeeeet.

Copy cat lol. Your gonna love it man. I have to wait till Tuesday to hit the lake but in the mean time, there is always the yard!
I was gonna wait awhile to see how the reviews were but couldn't resist the bass pro deal. I hope it ships out quickly as I can't wait to try it out. I have to return my veritas since the epoxy around one of the guides is cracked. Most of bass pros rods are beat all to hell at our local store. They are all dinged or scratched up. Hope my reel isn't lol.

I read alot of the pre-reviews on the S before it was released. Mike I. Talked it up pretty heavy.
There is a dealer named Simmons sporting goods on eBay that sells the Veritas for 79.99 shipped. They ship fast and they come in a huge PVC pipe. I have bought all but one from them and they are premo. I usually just buy direct from the store now though.
He told me all of his rods forsake are in the back. He has display models that take the abuse.
I bought a citica this year as my first baitcaster, been very happy with it, but I'm looking for a new one to add for next season so I'd love to hear how these compare. On 9/5/2012 at 4:35 AM, Kevinator1 said:Fella's, my local tackle dealer called me and said my new Revo S's came in. I called and talked to a manager at BPS. She said that they had some in back and to come in and they would snag me one of those. I have to say that I'm not really liking the reel seat on the veritas just holding it, but I'm sure I will get used to it.
Thus far, the S is actually the most impressive in the new line. I've not handled/fished a premier much, but the others are all well done. They mae a good reel this time around. My hope is that the longevity/durability issues have been addressed.
What longevity/durability issues do you mean? Outside of the finish on my Gen2's, I've never had any issue with them over the 2+ years I've been fishing them.
How much side to side play is there where the handle meets the gearing?
If you mean on my Abu's, none. On any of them. I own 7. 1 Gen2 SX, 4 Gen2 Premiers, an MGX and the Gen3 STX.
That's good to know. My black max has some but its a cheaper reel, while my sx has none. Hoping my revo s is solidly built as well.

I had to replace spool bearings and AR bearings in seven different reels. I had to replace three sets of main gears in Premiers. I had to replace levelwind gear in four different reels. I had to replace a spool on two reels because the shaft end deformed under load. I had to replace one spool because the pinion slipped and cause the spool to go off center, ending in the spool going out of round. I had to replace three handles, and several cast control knobs.
I also have several friends that had reels mimic the issues I experienced; from spool bearings to level winds, handles to gears. I've seen or experienced a very wide range of issues relating directly to the Revo line. One cannot, either, attribute it to maintenance, use, or product equivalency. I fished them the same as all my other reels, took care of them as all my other reels, maintained them as frequently as all my others.
Wow, that's incredible. I think you've had more issues personally than I've ever read about combined on the forums!
FWIW, I have 4 Gen2 Premier's and I fish quite a bit. I've never, ever had a single issue with any of them. Nor has anyone I know that owns one.
i personally have never had a single issue with any of my 11 Revos. But my buddy has a Gen2 STX and its all messed up. He bought it for cheap on EBAY so i think it was broke when the guy sold it to him. It never worked from the get go. I guess its all about luck. Before a Shimano guy chimes in and says get a Shimano and you will have no problems. I had a Shimano Curado and after about 10 casts the thing stopped casting further than 5 feet. The spool would just stop. I returned it and got a Revo S. I know Shimano makes a great reel, but reels are just like cars. One person can buy a 2012 Corvette and have no problems whatsover. The next guy can buy a 2012 Corvette and the electrical systems flawed or the starters messed up. Its just all about luck. If i would have been given a different Curado i would pry be a Shimano guy.
Yowzers that is a lot of Premier issues, I'm retired and fish quite a bit and I'm usually using one of my Premiers, and haven't had any parts failures.
No issues with any Abus I've ever owned.

Wow -- sounds like you and your friends had about 75% of the lemons on the market
3 Gen 1 STXs, 2 Gen 2 Premiers, 2 Gen 2 STXs, a Winch and a Toro here all going strong with no issues.
Got my SX today. Sweet!
Get some pics up and do a review on it!On 9/14/2012 at 10:05 AM, jerkbait joe said:Got my SX today. Sweet!
From my experience in dealing with them, and knowing the sheer volume of folks that I do; those issues are very similar to what a lot of people have experienced with G2 Premier and STX. It's nowhere near as isolated as you guys are making it sound. Regardless of the problems I had with them, I'm completely willing to give them a shot, and that's the key. They build a strong reel, plain and simple, it's just that there are durability issues with them. I mean, look at it like this- I average something like 300 days a year on the water, typically. Compared to what most people do, that's an awful lot. In many cases I put my reels through as much as four or five years use for the average guy in a single year. That's where some of the problem lies.
I could only dream of being out on the water 300 days a year. Some day....

While I certainly agree you've had durability issues, we'll just have to agree to disagree on them having any general durability issues, given my personal experience and the experience of many others on the forums. I hope the Gen3's bring you better luck that way.
Something else to mention on this subject. For the guys buying any Abu rod or reel over $69, you can get a really nice sweatshirt for $9.95. I got one when I bought my MGX this spring, and they are really nice. Heavy weight material, embroidered logo. You can get up to 2 per house, so I'm getting another with the purchase of my Gen3 STX.
http://abugarcia.com/products/promotions
I'm getting 3. 2 from my revo s and sx purchase, and my veritas rod. 3rd one will be shipped to my mom's house.

I'd prefer they pay me to be their walking billboard.

Thanks for the reminder on the hoodie, I'll be stylin this fall in my new Abu togs.
We are walking billboards no matter what we wear, and pay much more than $9.95 most of the time.On 9/17/2012 at 8:46 PM, OkobojiEagle said:I'd prefer they pay me to be their walking billboard.

As Hooligan has stated I also have had problems out of my Gen 2 STX's. Have had to replace 5 or more AR bearings. They have been going out on the hookset? Not sure why? Anywho,,,,,, I'm about to order 3 Gen 3 STX's!!!! ahhaha
