New kastking baitcasters! 2024

fishing user avatarDomQ reply :

Has anyone else checked out the new reels they just released? That seafoam green is a nice looking reel. The monkey is pounding on the shoulders for this one.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I saw some pictures, they look nice. Pretty sweet to be able to get an affordable reel that performs well and has nice aesthetics.

My girlfriend already said she needs one haha

I've been keeping a pretty close eye. The only two that really tickle the fancy are the Assassin and the Spartacus. The stealth doesn't have a real centrifugal brake and the royal legend is a bit of a rattle trap. Normally the problem is for either one you can spend 10 bucks extra and get into a fuego.

Now kastking seems to be making big moves to lower their prices and THAT is really interesting. The new Spartacus  (well, new colors I guess) is only like 45 bucks before the 15% memorial day code. That's a pretty big deal! A well equipped baitcaster for under 40 bucks with dual brakes. What's this world coming to ????

I can't wait for some fresh reviews.

Well I just bought one so when it comes ill be sure to post lots about it! What's the memorial day code?

fishing user avatarBeetlebz reply :

If you ordered it from kastking (the seller on ebay) they are participating in the memorial day eBay sale. Use the coupon code pmemday at checkout for an extra 15% off. Maybe you can cancel the order and reorder with the pmemday code? 15% is 15%.

Looks like the Memorial Day 15% sale is done already. Interesting.

Honestly eh haha kinda seemed like the prices have increased since I last took a gander at their page on eBay though, I could be wrong though

They're good for having 15 listings for the same reel with different prices. Gotta sort through them sometimes to get the best deal

If you look closely at the pictures of the seafoam, green and red reels on Amazon you will notice they are on matching rods.

Looks like Kastking is going to have a line of matching color Spartacus rods.

I was hoping they would have a hot pink so I could get my wife one. The fishing industry is really missing out not having more pink fishing rods and reels I think.

I have several, most have at least a solid year of use with no signs of wearing out. There was recently a thread about the quality of their reels, this was my response in the thread.

Anyone questioning the durability of the reels, I fish a lot, I've tried to kill them, I have been unsuccessful in my attempts thus far. Honestly, when the Assassin survived this day of abuse I put it through where I was doing everything I could to kill it, to the point of where my wrist hurt from horsing big, hard pulling fish as hard and fast as I could just to try and kill the thing, I was really surprised and impressed.

I've logged thousands of casts and catches with this very reel to fish of all species and sizes since this video and it just keeps going and is one of, if not the furthest casting reel I own. It does make whizzz, noise on the cast, but it's not anything that bothers me and certainly doesn't effect performance. I've since bought a Spartacus Plus, Speed Demon, Sharky II and III to go along with the Assassin and Kodiak that I was giving to test by KastKing. They've all been excellent, especially at their price point. They're not going to compete with a Curado or Tatula, but you're not paying for one. What you get with a KastKing IMO, is still a quality product that gets you on the water and gets you fishing, without having to spend the money on the big names. KastKing is building an excellent and very interactive company that listens to it's consumers. They're always live on Facebook interacting with people and you've all seen them on here talking and offering help and assistance where it's needed, going out of their way to do so. They're always quick in responding whenever I've sent them questions, something that can't be said for some of the other companies I've dealt with who are much more popular. They're not going to be for everyone, but no companies product is a one size fits all. I'd be more than happy to answer anyone's questions about my personal experiences with their products that I have though, just shoot me a PM.

So good news! The reel is here!! And I have pictures! Wanted too start off with my first impressions. As soon as I picked up the reel from the mail box it was quickly snatched from my hands by the gf which then decided too hide and open it up without me. So after I struggled to pry it out of her hands I got too mucking around with it.

First thoughts... Not too bad! Very smooth, I would say on par with my 2nd gen quantum smokes and Curado 200I. The bearings did need too be oiled so I added a drop too the 3 accessible bearings and sounded great. Almost zero play in the knobs and non in the handle. The drag was very smooth! Knobs felt awesome!!! Perfect for the gf's small hands and my large hands as well, I'm pretty impressed. Side plate was easy to remove and thumb bar feels awesome!!! Very soft when pressing down but firm. Too be honest though, I had my expectations not low but not high so somewhere in between. And I was not let down.

The worm gear shaft (see picture) looks too be very exposed. Its like the cover only covers the back of the shaft and 50% of it is fully exposed too the conditions, on a plus it will make cleaning very easy, but I hope it doesn't effect the line lay due too more then usual play in the line guide?

After further investigation I noticed some cosmetic flaws. Nothing major but kinda something I can unsee and I don't really want other people too notice if they go too use the reel. Behind where the tension knob goes, right below where the star drag, it looks like it wasn't even painted fully. Just primed and covered with some over spray of the aqua paint. You'll be able too see it in the picture I, it might look like glare from the flash but if you look closely its actually the primer and not the flash. Also if you remove the spool, the same thing is present. Remove the side plate and it isn't even painted, ya it could be like that too prevent and of the paint rubbing off on the spool but still. This reel seems like it will be a reel that will scratch up and the paint will wear a lot faster then other reels. Doesn't seem too have a thick coating of clear coat either. But you know what, it costed me 61 dollars Canadian, I didn't buy a curado K, didn't buy a tatula type r or a quantum Tour S3. It's a Kastking reel that I got for 61 bucks that feels great. Ill get it out on the water hopefully this weekend but before that ill open her up and see what makes her tick.

Ill post more pictures when I do, won't let me upload anymore.

The worm gear shaft and line lay will be something you will have to monitor. I have had line lay issues with my Spartacus and Whitemax reels (None on my Stealth, Assassin or Speed Demon)

This video reel-y helped me:

Got the reel out on the water, didn't hook up but gave it a good go. Paired it up with a dobyns fury cranking rod. I find that you have to turn the braking up a good amount for the magnets to really do anything, but the good thing is it has the braking system on the spool as well so that helps. The reel casts very well actually, wasn't to much to dial in using 12lb flouro. I would say its casts on par with my curado k and take a coastal but not as far as my smokes. Very smooth retrieve! I am actually really impressed with this little guy. Hopefully this Sunday ill be able to test out the drag!

I wanted to add another setup to my collection and I’ve seen tons of people suggesting these reels so I ordered the speed demon. I put about 8 hours on it this weekend and man it’s a sweet reel.

If you were to give it to me with no branding and tell me to guess what price range it was in, I would’ve said $150 range. Once I got it dialed in there was zero backlash. No thumbing the line, just cast and let the reel do the rest. It also cast a mile.

I cant speak to the other reels they offer but I’ll prob buy them all and have my son learn on one of them.
