New Bps Online Sale 2024

fishing user avatarKevinator1 reply :

Guys, just checked on BPS website and they are having a sale until 4/6. They have an advertisement for the Pro Qualifiers at $79.00 but if you look at the Pro Qualifiers to choose which model you want it says 69.97 or something like that. And you can get free shipping by adding a code when checking out. I had to buy 2 as backups. Don't know if it is marked wrong or not but get them before they change the price. (unless its a sales ploy)

fishing user avatarThe Next KVD reply :

d**n, I just bought 3 of them last week for $79.99 each plus shipping.  That was just not very nice to pull this BPS.  An awesome reel for a great price just got better.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

You don't often see the PQ go down to $70 - a good deal indeed at that price...

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

Anybody notice the left hand model of the 4.7:1 ratio version is missing? A lower than normal sale and one model not listed. Makes me wonder how much longer the current PQ model will be available.

Thanks.  I really didn't need one and don't have a rod for it yet but I couldn't stop myself from pulling the trigger.  I picked up a 6.4:1 LH.

I don't think the 4.7 was ever available in left hand.

Not sure that they ever had it, but usually BPS releases the new reels before they clearance the old ones out.

Yes, all ratios were available in both left and right. There were 8 models.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

I recently ordered 6 spools of XPS Fluorocarbon Line for half price. XPS Fluorocarbon is not as good as some other fluorocarbons (though, it is not that bad either), but for that price, it was just too hard to pass up.

This isn't true either because there was a year without a Pro Qualifier at all before the current model was released.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

I just checked my current BPS catalog and it actually states that the 4.7:1 is not available in left retrieve. This is new, as I do remember seeing it available in the past.

Just do a search for model number PQX10SSLD. That's the model number for the left hand 4.7:1 ratio. They have dropped it apparently.

The writing is on the wall.....get them while they last. I've been expecting this for some time. Any model, regardless of popularity, has a limited run before it's revamped or replaced.

What year was that?

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

Back around 2008 or 2009. Not sure of the exact year now. The BPS catalog didn't show one for that year. Prior to this they had a PQ available with the ITB braking like the old Rick Clunn reels had. I also believe it was only available in a 6.4:1 ratio as well. Then they dropped it and there wasn't a PQ for the following year. The year after that they introduced the model they have now, only available as a 6.4:1 and 7.1:1, and a year later the catalog had all 4 ratios available, and in both hand retrieve choices. This is the first year the 4.7:1 has not been available as a left hand model.

The writing is on the wall. This reel platform is nearing the end.

I just checked my 2013 master catalog, and you are correct, they list all 4 speeds in right and left retrieve. I wouldn't get all doom and gloom yet though, its possible they just didn't sell enough left handers in that speed to justify the costs.

On the other hand, I did see some combos with a "Pro Qualifier Silver" on them, seemed to be a cheaper PQ. Who knows...

2008 had the old model, 09 did not have it. I believe it was was probably left out due to space and other reels in the category (Rick Clunn and Pro Lite both $99) Also, considering that in 09 the catalog had both the PQ spinning reel and the PQ rods, I'm guessing it just didn't make the cut. Them not having the 4.7 in the left hand retrieve isn't surprising. It's has to make them a profit in order to make it and although there are a few die hard anglers out there running reels that slow, they are for sure few and far between.

They've ran combos on and off with "PQ's" before. They had a Christmas special one year that had a color changing paint scheme that had more bearings than the regular PQ but was about the same price if not cheaper even with the rod.

Notice the straight handle and graphite frame. I've seen that reel before, and others like it wearing the "Pro Qualifier" name with additional wording like "Tournament" tagged onto it also. They are not the PQ most people know.

If you contact them, they will most likely refund the difference of $10.00 per reel, but not the shipping.

Looks like you were right. At least at the moment, the only right handed models available on their website are the 5.2:1 and the 4.7:1. The 6.4:1 and the 7.1:1 aren't even listed anymore. Perhaps this is the end of the line for the mighty PQ...

There were some gear ratios that were on the site that have now been taken off....maybe they are clearing them out to introduce a new look Pro Qualifier?

I cringed when I read that.. Hope BPS doesn't try to make it lightweight and blah blah blah. Wish they would just keep it how it is.

Yes, they shouldn't change the reel as far as the build goes.....maybe they are thinking about giving it an updated look as far as the color scheme. It's one of those reels that for the price is absolutely perfect....don't see too many of those these days.

fishing user avatarKevinator1 reply :

Speaking of making it lightweight....I have some very lightweight reels and to me I prefer a reel in the 6.5 oz to 8.0 oz range.....it seems to me they are built a little more solid that way....i work on reels like a lot of guys do on here and some of the expensive lightweight ones just don't seem as durable. But only time will tell since the super lightweight reels have only been on the market for a few years.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

Just checked the BPS site, and they now show only the 7.1:1 and 6.4:1 ratios available, and in left hand only. This might mean they're just out of stock, but don't they normally list that with each model instead of removing the listing for it? This looks to me like they're killing the model.

Maybe so but I can't believe they would do that with all that they have sold. Unless the sales dropped a lot but for the price I would have a hard time believing that they would just discontinue that reel. But stranger things have happened.

Alright, got the scoop from BPS themselves.....they said they took the ones off of the website that had sold out during the sale because it was going to be more than 30 days before they get in a new supply....so it looks like there will be more in the future....

Are they getting more of the same reel, or a new reel that is named Pro Qualifier? The lower than normal sale price and taking it off the website smells like discontinued model.
