I want to match it up with 6'7 carrot stix..which spinning ya'll suggest? Reasonably priced of course lol
thanks
You'll have to state a price range. To me, $200 for a Shimano CI4 is reasonable enough to own three. But that might not be your range.
There are so many reels in the 60.00-100.00 range that would be a quality reel. Just pick one and go with it.
Shimano symetre---99.99
Shimano Sahara----79.99
Pflueger Supreme--99.99
Pflueger President-.59.99
These are just a few to get you started.
It's hard to argue with the reliability of a Pflueger President. Same goes for the old Tournament SS Daiwa.
I like the Pflueger Supreme, and feel OK recommending them. Can't be beat for around 100 bucks IMO
I suggest if you can that you get to a store that carries a couple of brands and get a feel for some of the reels and reel zizes. Everyone here will have a personal preference and what may work well for me may not work well for you. Pick a price point and get some hands on with reels in that price point.

Even better would be to fish with them.....I've checked out a few in-store that I thought were garbage, but work great, and seem to be holding up fine.
(the large spool BPS spinning reels come to mind)
50-120 is my price range but im def. going to looking to all the recomendations. I really enjoy this forum such great info! thanks guys
You can find Shimano Stradics on clearance at Gander Mtn. and a few other retailers.

Yeah, my Presidents have always been good to me.
In the price range you mentioned I'd first spend a lot of time doing research, the choices are many, about every manufacturer will make something you're going to like and will do the job. I'm sure after some research you will whittle your list down a bit, go see those reels in person and see how they feel on the rod and what your eye thinks of them. Your selection, what ever it winds up being will work just fine, you will not make a mistake but if you do, it's a learning experience which may be more valuable than buying the right one in the first place.
I have always liked the Daiwa Excelers in that price range, which btw, is about as much as I will spend on a spinning reel. While I have never been a fan of Daiwa casting reels, I do like there spinning reels. I plan on adding one of the new Arids this winter.
QuotePretty safe to assume this is going to be a reel for bass fishing.
Uhhh, this is BassResource.com after all.

YEp, LOL. You know I can edit it back....
Ya, well my Yorkie can beat up your Chihuahua
My bulldog chew the ankles off anything, eat it, and then give you puppy eyes.
Guys keep it on topic or I'll have to close this thread
i've got 2 Presidents and use them 3-4 times a week for the past 5 years and they have never failed me. can't beat them for the price. IMO
That new Pfluegar Supreme MGX is a sweet looking reel for $99. If my wife doesn't get me one for Christmas I've already got the money in my paypal account ready to go for one. I don't know anyone that owns a president that doesn't love it.
If you can push your buget a bit I would recommend a quantum smoke. You can get one on ebay for under $130. They are LEGIT. And this is coming from a daiwa guy.
Id say a Abu Garcia Orra SX, but im biased.

I'd get it before Christmas and just call it a present to myself but I always give her a hard time about buying stuff before Christmas so I can't be doing it myself

The Stradic is an incredible reel. Just bulletproof and buttery smooth. I use the 4000 size for saltwater fishing small shark and Mahi, and they just never quit.
Pflueger Patriarch if you call $199 reasonable.
I have 2 of the Gander Mtn X Factor reels that are built by Pure fishing (Abu Garcia) and they are just like the Pflueger. They sell for $149 but Gander Mtn had them on sale a few months ago for $99.
Geez...
Where did this Abbadabbadoo/ Flooger talk come from?
The new challenger is the Pinnacle Performa XT for $99.99

Otherwise the Symetre for around $89 or for another $100,
the Stradic CI4.

+1... although I can't comment on the FJs..except I am not favorable to the Okumaesq white..
Bang for your buck, any Pflueger product falls into that category. For freshwater bass fishing most reels priced under $100 will easily meet the demands for freshwater bass fishing. If you plan on doing double duty with some light inshore fishing IMO the ante should be raised a bit.
As a kid did your mother ever put veggies on your plate that made you want to vomit, even though you never tasted them? That's what happens to me every time I see a Symetre, I just wanna puke. Not knocking the reel, I never had one in my hands, I'm sure it's a decent reel. The stradics are really nice reels, I love the ones I have, but IMO I wouldn't spend that much $$ for a light duty freshwater reel.
Lots of good reels in that price range, really hard to pick a bad one. But the President and Symetre are two of the top ones.
