I need a new squarebill rod. i had a veritas 7ft M and it was a nice rod. had great balance and really liked the taper, but it lacked any sensitivity at all. What do you guys like in the 7ft range with moderate action that is nice and light and can really throw a 3/8 oz squarebill well?
I like using a 66 fenwick hmg because it allows you to flip and pitch the bait and get it in tight to cover. The new 66 fenwick aetos is amazing
Sensitivity is not really an issue with crankbaits.

I found that the St Croix Rage has great sensitivity any little strike you will feel it.Good luck

You have dead hands then, or have no idea what your doing. I have the same rod, and if you can't feel a crank wobble, or tick grass, or defelct off cover with this rod, your not going to feel it with anything. I can feel a fish swim up behind a bait with this rod and "push" water at my bait....I am not saying it's the greatest rod in the world, but it's certainly plenty sensitive for cranking.
Another vote for the Dobyns 705CB.

Anything cheaper and it probably won't be an upgrade to the veritas.
Powell squarebill rod is sweet!
Loomis CBR... Mine were all bought in 99 and I bought 2 loomis rods last year... You can feel a earthquake in China with them.. Pricey though
Maybe try better line first. Most people should be able to feel cranks wobble with the most inexpensive of poles and when the bait feels "different" something has happened. Unless you just want a new rod.
6'6" MH/F Quantum Bill Dance combo. It's not the best rod but I like the action. I don't like fishing squarebills on a moderate action crankbait rod. A fast action allows me to rip out of wood cover better.
For the money, the St Croix Legend tournament 7-2 MM is a great stick for light or hard cover. In a heavy hard or soft cover squarebill, the Dobyns 705CB or the Loomis 845.

I just bought a new HALO cranking rod had a 66 but went with the 7' but the 66 was AMAZING
My favorite square bill rod by far is the old cranking carrot stix. Mine is a 6-9 and is a beast when throwing kvd 1.5 &2.5 I have also thrown jerk baits on it, really a sweet rod
I personally use either the skeet S-glass cranking rods the Clunn rods or the shimano clarus crankbait rods. none of those are as sensitive as your veritas, but they work great for squarebills.

I'll second the Jadewood 7'0 crankbait rod. Man that thing is light and the balance point is right at/before the nut on the reel seat. Makes it feel like you are holding nothing. For $99 it's hard to beat it.
I second a Denali Jadewood. I use the 7 foot MH crankbait rod for my square bills.
I'm new to Crank baits but i really like my Dobyns 704 Glass rod. You can really sling those KVD 1.5 really far and I think it's better than my Dobyns 705 Glass for throwing 3/8 oz. cranks but the only fish I've caught on it has been a trout.
I use the Powell diesel 7'0 cranking rod, super light and works great with squarebills. If I'm not mistaken they are on sale right now also. Best 60 dollar rod I've ever used.
Dobyns 684cb has worked great for me.
You have a bunch of good suggestions...Heres another...Phenix X10 or X11 composite.

I'm surprised I havent seen anything about Duckett Micro Magics or Micro Magic Cranking rods on this thread. I have never personally used one for crankbaits but I figured they would work well. Anyone have input on that?
I love there regular micro rods, I too have been waiting to hear feedback on their cranking rods.
I did buy a dirt cheap MH rick clunn rod at the dicks fire sale to try haven't used it yet though.
LTB Big Cranker IMO is the best cb rod out there.
The Denali Kovert 6'10 Medium Cranking stick is a very nice rod for SQ-bills. I think it would be a great lower priced rod that you would enjoy fishing with. Denali is making some nice stuff.
i found a great deal on a 7' M Crucial Cranking, i loved the worm Crucial i had, so we will see how this goes.
I'm using a Denali 7ft Med action crank bait rod with square bills and I love it.
