Was wondering what everyone's favorite monofilament lines to use were and why.

Stren Original, because it's what I've always used!
Mono ?????
Trilene XL, Trilene XT, Trilene Big Game.
trilene XT, but getting away from mono into braid. still feel better with mono on the topwater.
FWIW I'm happy with it too.
Trilene XL
Sufix Seige and Sufix Elite.
Line size / type pending application.
Sufix Siege is great, never tried Elite.

The elite is great for open water to light cover cranking and spinnerbaits/chatterbaits.
Sufix Elite on my spinning gear, Sufix Siege on baitcasting gear
Trilene XT, all I ever really used and never had a problem with it, so I stick with it.
Sufix Siege of course; 10-12 lb test for casting reels, 6 lb test for spinning.
The Sufix Elite is okay, but a bit too stretchy for my liking.
Trilene XL is a very distant third.
Another one for Suffix here! I like Elite for spinning gear.
I use Trilene XT, 17 pound test on my channel cat rig Bait cast rig.
Trilene XL in 6, 8, 10, and 12 pound test on various spinning and baitcast reels BUT, I have started to switch to Stren original because it seems to stay supple and not get hard and "coily" as soon as XL here in the desert heat.
I have 1 baitcaster spooled with Trilene Big Game I believe 14lb test which I use for larger cranks and spinnerbaits. The stretch in the mono halps absorb the impact of the strike and there is less chance of ripping the bait out of the fishes mouth. I used to use Cajun Red but it has alot more memory than Big Game.
sufix siege
if i had to go back to mono , it would be siege.
Suffix Siege is good stuff but I really like Izorline
Trilene XL or XT.
Personally, I love Trilene XT, preferably in the Clear color.
big game and yo zuri here
trilene xl
Berkely Big Game Trilene
Used to be Trilene XL until I used Suffix Seige!

Interesting. I've only had XT get too stiff and coiled in freezing/below freezing temps... all summer long it's fine for me.
I've gone to sufix in the freezing weather.
Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon Pro Strength
c/b/f Trilene xl.
BPS Excel. It is very reassonably priced. Has not much memory and just the right amount stretch.
Suffix Elite is the only true mono line I have used, it's great, but I mostly fish co-poly lines like yo-zuri hybrid and florocarbon like Seaguar invizx and Vicious Pro elite.
The only mono i have truly enjoyed using is the suffix elite, and that is in the lowest poundage, either 2 or 4 lbs. Use it on my UL set up. excellent shock resistance, never broke on me; yet enough stretch to be able to set the hook strongly.

X2, trilene XL on spinning though.

Trilene Big Game for my baitcasting rigs, mostly 10 and 12 lb., 15 or 20 lb. for some applications. Spinning rigs get either Cabela's house brand or Trilene XL 4, 6, or 8lb.

Berkley Big Game Mean Green
I don't really use mono anymore for anything other than panfishing, but Sufix Elite would have to be my fav. It's the softest, easiest casting mono I've tried, and it ties good, strong knots. Mono in general, and Elite in particular, are just too stretchy and have too little sensitivity for my liking. Over the previous few years, I used to use a lot of the 17 lb. test for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits, and the 10-12 lb. test for cranking.
I use Yo Zuri Hybrid for those now and much prefer it over the Sufix Elite. Before you try any of the monofilament lines listed in this thread, do yourself a favor and give Hybrid a try. Just downsize the test one step because it's a thicker and stronger than other lines that are rated the same strength. For example, instead of 14# mono, use 12# Hybrid. Instead of 8# mono, use 6# Hybrid.
Silver Thread Excalibur in 12lb for baitcasting reels and 10lb for my spinning reels. Low memory , smooth handling and great abrasion resistance. It's getting hard to find so I've been ordering 3000yd spools from Cabelas.
