what is the best baitcaster i can get for around $150. i am looking for a good brakeing system and all that good stuff... also what type of rod should it go on?
thanks
SS
For 150$ there are a few options. I think your best option would be to go on Ebay right now, they have the Abu Garcia Revo STX for around 157.99$ brand new in the box that you can buy immediately, or you might find a cheaper one bidding. Not only is that a good price but that is an outstanding reel. If your willing to spend 170$ you can get a Shimano Curado from Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas. I would go with the STX personally.
As for a rod it depends on what your going to be using it for and how much your willing to spend on it. If your looking for a nice "all around rod" i would go with a 6'6'' or 7' MH/F. If you post back with what kind of rod your looking for im sure alot more suggestions can be made.

for any of you who have some time to evaluate these for me these are some i was looking at and i would like to narrow it down to about 3-5.. thanks. here they are: Shimano Curado D, Quantum Code, Pflueger Summit, Pflueger Asaro, Abu Garcia Revo SC, Cabela's Tournament ZX HS, Cabela's Prodigy, Abu Garcia Revo SX, Daiwa Advantage Super-Tuned HSTA, Quantum Accurist 500 PTs. if anyone could do me a huge favor and help me pick the best reel for the best cash i would greatly appreciate it...
thanks

There is no question that the best bang for your buck is the quantum Tour Edition half price from cabelas. If you are looking at quantum then go with the tour edition or energy pt over the ones you listed. They are nearly half off at cabelas and are great performers.
Out of the ones you listed, I would go revo sx or curado. If you consider my recommendations then I would put the tour edition with the revo as tops. You just can't beat a $240 reel for $129!!!
Btw-I have 2 codes and like them fine but you can't justify buying them when these others are on sale.

hawgchaser is correct...if the deal on the Quantum TE's are still on, you cant beat it. It is a very good reel for about half price.
Sorry, can't help with the review of the other reels. You listed the Curado D but not the Citica. I bought the Citica 200D, liked it so much got another when they went on sale (with a rebate ). If you are considering the Curado you should seriously consider the Citica. From what I've read from other members and heard the new Citica is a better reel than the new Curado (and less $$$)...

There are plenty of citica fans out there. But a tour edition for the SMS price as a citica is a no brainer. I bought a citica and just didn't like it at all. I gave it to my buddy. They work fine but are big and many are noisy
I'd have to second the motion on the Pflueger Summit. I just got one (LP not the WLP) in 7.1:1 and it's one of the smoothest reels I've used. Just as light as my Curado 100DSV and with more features. And I paid about $100 on eBay for it vice over $150 for my Curado. I like the Curados too, but the Pflueger's got more bang for the buck.
Revo SX
Whether you are a fan of Quantum or not, the Tour Edition is the best deal going at the moment. There might be more clearance deals pop up closer to icast. Look for the remaining Curados to be knocked in the dirt.
Revo STX 157.99$ brand new in the box on Ebay!
i got a johnny moris signature series real from bass pro. its the older model one so they are only like 80 and normally 150. i bet your basspro has a few left
i read some reviews saying abu garcia's arent good for casting into the wind because the breaking systems arent that great also im not to fond of the crack the side open to adjust anything. im looking for a few of both 6:3:1 or 7:1 thanks for all the help
SS
also is the pflueger summit better than the asaro?

Quantum's braking system is the best of both worlds. Externally adjustable centrifugal braking. I am actually not a quantum fan boy. I only have 2 of their reels out of about 15. BUT it seems to be exactly what you want.
This may or may not be much help. However, I too, tend to over-analyze new purchases of gear of any kind. All reels mentioned here a likely to be GREAT reels. Otherwise, the manufacturer's wouldn't sell tens of thousands of them.
That said, I believe it is important for you to look at the reels, feel them, and push all the buttons at a local shop. Pick the one you like best and feels right. Again, I don't believe you can go wrong with any of them.
By the way, I have a Quantum Energy PT (BURNER) and a Revo STX 6:4. They are both great.
I believe the rod selection will be more important than the reel. I have a M/H 7' Johnny Morris sig from Bass Pro and a St Croix Avid 7' m fast. I honestly haven't used them enough this year to say if I would buy the same again. I can say I like them very much.
I hope that helps some.
actually it did help i was considering buying it off the internet but i guess ill make the 1 1/2 hour trip to bass pro shop to feel them all.

I agree! I have bought 2 of the 07 models on clearance and will buy 2 of the 08 models when/if they clear those late this year. Good buy at $99.99 but a great buy on clearance! The spinning reel versions are nice too!!
Depending on the size of BC your looking for, Sportsmans warehouse still has the $160 deal on Fuego's and Sol's. Search the web for their website. Any store will ship most everything free, as long as the order is over $100.
now that i have checked prices ebay is my next place of purchase...
i just have to figure out what to buy??? hello baitmonkey

REVO STX 157.99$ on Ebay, brand new in the box.
I bought my revo on ebay. Saved roughly $60 off retail.
Just got a Quantum Energy PT tonight for $99.00 at Cabelas...great reel for a great price. Got the 5:1:1 for crankbaits. Rung up at the register for $189.00, then they corrected the price. Either way...great looking and feeling reel.

Guess we all need to start posts with IMHO. Maybe that way it wouldn't be called "no brainer"...

Skillet, don't take it personally. There are plenty of people on here that would say I am crazy for recommending a quantum. Threads like these are for opinions and thats it. Comparing a Tour Edition to a Citica is not apples to apples. The Tour Edition is quantums top of the line reel....the best they have to offer. A more equal comparison would be a tour edition vs. a chronarch in which case I would have a chronarch 50mg!
As I said before, the citica has many fans! I just don't care for them myself. (however, I do have six of the older 3 bearing Citicas)
its between the quantum tour sceries, and the Daiwa Advantage Super-Tuned... thanks also should i get the burner or the 6:3:1
SS
Daiwa Advantage Super-Tuned Hands Down!!
Quantum is in my experience with the Tour Editions and the Cabo/Boca Series is JUNK.
They do have an excellent warranty department and usually replace their junk quickly with more junk. Its like a junk recycling plant. ;D
I'm staying out of this, but if you will review the last 20, 50 or 100
pages in this section, there are lots of suggestions (opinions) on rods
and reels at different pricing points.
p.s.
A couple of off-color responses and references to those posts were
delted. Please, be courteous and stay on topic.

i bought the Daiwa Advantage 153HST supertuned... i hope it was the right choice...

I know your question is about what reel to get, and the rod may be secondary. I'm just throwing this out there, but if you are on a budget, I'd recommend on placing your priority on the rod first, then a reel second. I think most people are happier having a high quality rod.

I think rods might be more important for "catching" bass, but reels
make the "fishing" more enjoyable. On average, my reels account for
2/3 - 3/4 of the total cost of a rig.

Reel before rod anyday. Gotta get your bait in the water first
I love my JUNKY Quantums! I have 5 of them, and have never had one problem with them. Maybe you are doing something wrong with yours? Anyway---it's a great reel for those like me on a budget. JUNKY QUANTUMS RULE!!!!!!!!

Upon further review...the Diawa is in a nice price range. Maybe I will have to check them out next time I am in the market. If my Quantum ever breaks....
Cool!!!!

I will agree with that.
