I was just curious to see what you guys use for shakey heads?
I'm using a revo stx paired with a fenwick 6'6 light action rod.... kind of an unorthodox combo.
An All Star Platinum P785, Med/Xfast with a Pflueger Patriarch LP.
Works well.
G.Loomis MBR844C/ STX/ PP 50/12 with Seaguar fluorocarbon leader
8-)
7'M Damiki Dark Angel
Stradic CI4 2500
8lb P-Line Flouro-Clear
Steez MF & Steez Reel w/12# P-Line CX
NOTHING!!! ;D
Had no success with the spinning gear I used them with and have not tried them on my baitcasting gear yet.
But my brother-in-law uses a 7' medium Compre spinning rod, CPS70MB, with a Shimano Symetre reel and Berkley Vanish Transitions fluorocarbon line, not sure of pound test. I watch him load the boat with quality bass, as many as 15 in a single trip with just that outfit on shakeyheads only so he must be doing something right with it. I figure the rod's sensitivity has to be helping so his rod choice I plan to copy but I'll probably use a Pflueger Medalist spinning reel instead and will be hitting this board for specific line recommendations since I heard that Yozuri was the shizz-nit!
Daiwa Alphas Ito on a Bcr852 Glx, Daiwa Alphas Type R on a Bcr802 Glx.
BP PQ2000B on a Loomis SHR822S. On my first trip out with that combo the boater somehow hit the rod as he shut a rod locker, bringing the lid down on the top 8". He then stepped on the lid & I swear you could hear the rod break. But when he opened the lid I couldn't see any damage. I've been using it for a couple of year since & caught plenty of fish without a problem.
I have to set ups, not dedicated setups, but its what I use.
reel:
Shimano Sustain 2500 - 8lb bps flourocarbon
Shimano Shara 2500 - 6lb yo-zuri
rod:
7' M fast action St Croix mojo bass
6' 8'' Gander Mt Pro Series Shakey rod
Not high dollar, but caught me a bunch of fish and a couple over 5lbs!
I'm with Toledo in that I don't have a dedicated setup for it but when I do use it, it is on one of the two combos depending on the size of the shakey I am throwing.
I have a St. Croix TBC69MLXF with an Abu Morrum SX1600C Ultra Mag Forell for the lighter stuff.
Also use a St. Croix EC70MF with an Abu Morrum SX1600C Ultra Mag for the heavier stuff.
Dobyns DX703SF and a Stradic 2500 with 6lb Triple Fish
St Coix LT 6'9" MLXF, Revo STX, #10 Trilene XL
QuoteG.Loomis MBR844C/ STX/ PP 50/12 with Seaguar fluorocarbon leader8-)
for a shakey head combo, this is a little on the heavy side no? Or I could very easily be missing somthing here.
G Loomis GLX SHR822S, Pflueger Supreme, 8 lb. Flouro., with usually an 1/8 oz. Picasso Jig Head and Big Bite Jeff Kriet Squirrel Tail Worm.
Reel/ Shimano Stradic 2500
Rod/ Shimano Crucial 6'8" M XF
Line/ 8lb P-line flouroclear
Spinning - SHR 822 GLX with Stella 2500FD
Casting - BCR 802 GLX with '03 Orange Pixzilla
7' M Shimano Compre spinning rod with a Diawa Gcygnus spinning reel.
For line, I usually go with 8 lb. Berkley Vanish.
6'0 berkley lightning M/F paired with a Cardinal 300 series (I think its a 300)
I found this in my garage
Spinning: St. Croix LTB 6' 9" MLXF paired with a Shimano Stradic MgFB 1000. One spool with 8lb Power Pro and one with 6lb Flouro.
Casting: St. Croix LTB 6' 9" MLXF paired with Shimano Curado 200E7 with 8lb Power Pro.
Both rods are built on the same blank. For my style of fishing this is as good as I have found and couldn't resist getting the same rod in both spinning and casting.
Matt
Since I'm bored...I took a couple of pics.
Shakey head spinning is a Steez 6'9" w/Advantage 2000 and 8lb trilene fluorocarbon. I have this same setup for drop-shot with 6lb fluoro, and that is basically it for me with spinning rods and reels.
My shakey head casting rod is a CR722 glx with a steez 103 and trilene 100% in 8lb. I love this little rod...I've rediscovered how fun it is to fish 6' rods. However, I wish I could fish it more often...it is limited due to my fishing style, and doesn't get wet very often.
I don't have a dedicated shakey head set up, but when i fish a shakey head I use my finesse setup.

6'10'' Falcon Lowrider shapkey head rod-spinning
shimano spriex2000
what kind of line should i put on?
I got you all beat! ;D
I'm rocking the Berkley Cherrywood medim power 3/8-3/4 lure even though it couldn't dream of handling a 3/4oz lure. Slapped on this gorgeous rod is an Abu Garcia Cardinal spinning reel. Not dedicated to shakey heads, but this is what i use it most for..that and wacky senkos and the cavitron haha gets the job done and pretty well i might add for a 30 dollar set up!
Quantum Superlight 6'10" MH w/ a 2500 Sahara
11lb Sunline Defier or 8lb Sunline Sniper Fluro
All Star ASR815C 6'9" Extra Fast Action Medium Power
Pflueger Supreme Baitcaster 6.3:1
12 lb Stren (I like a little heavier line due to the grass on my fishing holes and have tried almost every new line out there only to come back to the original)
If anyone in their right mind is bothering to read all of these "mine is better than yours" posts...
Rod: 9' XH Ugly Stick
Reel: Mitchell 300

Calm down. The guy is asking for suggestions.
