Lews Equipment 2024

fishing user avatarJamie Lampert reply :

I have done a bunch of research and was wondering what the everyone thinks about the Lews rod and reels?

Thanks

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

Like every brand they have some good models and some not so much. What are you looking for/at?

fishing user avatarJamie Lampert reply :

I have been using Castaway rods with Quantum reels.  I am looking at The mach I combo 7 foot med/heavy for cranking

fishing user avatarMassYak85 reply :

All I have is their LFS speed spool but I like it. They have very good customer service if that is going to play a role in what brand you choose.

fishing user avatarS. Sass reply :

I have these Lews reels below and each have performed great. These are all used a minimum of 8hrs a week. Highly recommended IMHO

Lews Tournament 7:1

Lews LFS Speed Spool 6.4:1

Lews Mark Rose signature series 7:1 <-- cheap Walmart reel

I haven't used any of their rods so I cant speak for them.

fishing user avatarlakeannaangler reply :

For cranking I would get a david fritts perfect crank speed stick and a lfs speed spool in the low gear ratio

I am a huge lew's fan and I have used most of their stuff under $150. Very good product and amazing customer service

fishing user avatardsqui reply :

there reels are great its all i run anymore...there rods on the other hand are garbage

I have 5 different models from the Tournament Pro, Tourney MB, Pro G, BB1's and Pro Mag. The rods I have of Lew's is the Custom Lite. They are decent, but prefer Dobyns. As someone else stated, the customer service is top notch. I broke a rod tip off (my fault) and Lew's replaced the rod with no questions asked.

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

:welcome: to the forum.

Never used a Lew's rod.  Like S. Sass I have 3 of their reels.

Tournament Pro 7.1:1

Tournament MB 7.5:1

Pro Z 7.1:1

I don't get out 8 hrs a week....except when visiting relation in Florida and then I'm normally out more than that a day on the days we go fishing.  The last 2 are recent additions so they haven't seen much use so far.  All 3 are very nice reels, but I haven't come to the conclusion yet that they are the best thing since sliced bread.  There are a lot of good reels available to us today and it is only getting better.

I think you would be very satisfied with any of the 3 reels that I've used.

fishing user avatarfishnkamp reply :

They look like they are going to be nice, but right now I only see that one combo. Have no idea if they are a moderate or real fast tip. If more moderate they will be better for cranks.  You might be better off going with the new Lews Mach Speed Stick in a 7 foot medium.  Then match it with one of these reels. The rod sell for $79.00. The first reel sells for $99.00, and the second goes for $119.99.  It will cost a little more but the rod should have a action more suited for cranks.

I don't have any of their rods, but the bulk of my bait casters are Lew's.

I have from their highest end reels down to the Tournament MB's and they have all been bullet proof. I would never hesitate to buy and trust one of their products anymore.

fishing user avatarTracker22 reply :

I have three of their rods and two reels. Fantastic performance from all of them. As I update I'll be replacing everything with Lews.

fishing user avatarthebillsman reply :

I've got Tournament Pros and MBs.. both are fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone. Make sure they're comfortable in your hand.

fishing user avatarBiteFiend reply :

Another vote for the Lews LFS. Tough to go wrong with Lews. All their reels seem to cast a mile and are very reliable.

fishing user avatarJamie Lampert reply :

thanks for all the tips, very helpful

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

I have five Tournament Pros and two BB1s, and they have been wonderful reels.  I haven't tried any of their rods...

Tight lines,

Bob

fishing user avatarjitterbug127 reply :

Simply amazing baitcasters. I have owned 5 of 6 different models, and they all are workhorses. I don't buy anything else. I prefer pflueger spinning, but they make good spinning reels.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

shimano excels above all other reels imo!

Lol yeah I rekon you have a point there.

Go with lews without a doubt. There reels are amazing, I can't vouch for there rods because I have not used them but the reels are amazing !

fishing user avatarJamie Lampert reply :

Thanks for the info. I have been running quantums and have thinking about a change.

Well, that's your opinion. But far from the truth..

I run a Pro Mag and SD Wide Spool and have no complaints at all. They are great reels in my opinion.

I agree. The shimano use to be on top of the food chain, but imo Lew's bait casters has leaped ahead.

fishing user avatarLawsonfishing1 reply :

In all honesty tho I would have to say if I was to change anything about a lews reel, or if there was something I didn't care for. It'd be the drag system. Not that I have personally had a problem with it but it's tempting to look at reels for instance *** reels that has almost twice the drag strenth of lews an worder if you would need that extra lock down power so it doesn't slip when your trying to get big fish out of heavy cover fast. Either way that don't change the fact that Lew's reels are amazing an that they are the only company I use for my reels in my reel arsonal.

That I agree with. I have to turn the drag up a lot while reeling in fish.

The Custom Speed Sticks and the Custom Lites are far from Garbage. They're outstanding rods.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

After a considerable amount of research, I purchased a Lew's Tournament MG Sped Spool for my first baitcasting reel. Managed to find it brand new for $50.00. Freaking steal of a deal.
I've put that thing through so much abuse, and it's stood up to everything. It casts a mile, retrieves super-smooth, and has a great brake system and drag.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Lew's Reel and would highly recommend them.

fishing user avatarJamie Lampert reply :

I picked up one of these lew's carbon fire bait caster from dicks sporting goods.  I think it is a special model made for dicks only.  I have not been able to find it anywhere else.  For the price it is a great reel.

fishing user avatarTravis Gasper reply :

I originally purchased the Mach 1 baitcaster combo last month to use for spinners and cranks. I started using it for the 90 size Whopper Plopper and haven't taken it off! I love this combo and will probably buy another one in the future.

fishing user avatarWdyCrankbait reply :

Tournament Lite SS tackle warehouse is selling them cheap now. Great reel, the ACB casting control is the best I've used.

I prefer plain peanut butter over peanut butter and jelly. There, that's two answers that have absolutely nothing to do with the question....lol.

fishing user avatarjtharris3 reply :

I have 4 LFS reels and love them! They have been totally reliable.

fishing user avatarMPM IV reply :

I have two of the Team Lew's HM85 rods and I liked the first one enough to buy the second. I also have a Tournament Pro that I think is a great reel.

fishing user avatarLendiesel22 reply :

I have 2mbs and 2lfs ss. They are all solid. As mentioned earlier the drag can be touchy.
