Alright all you dobyns fans, new series coming out in August. The "Sierra". All fuji components and priced pretty much the same as the savvy. I figure it's the savvy's replacement. That's just a guess though. Pictures of them are on the dobyns website.
I read that the savvy is staying in the micro guide form. The fury is a great rod an many say better than the savvy so I'm excited over what the Sierra will bring
Full handle on the 6'8 rods? They have my attention.
Happy they kept the classic cursive "Sierra Series" insignia. Miss it on the XP and HP models
The full handle options on a sub $200 rod will be nice. They look pretty sharp and should be a good seller. I am wondering why Dobyns hasn't launched a $400+ rod yet? Seems like the Fury/Savvy/Sierra will all be at price points separated by only a few $. They will probably sell a good number of Sierra rods but I am wondering if they abandoned the idea of Zayta series rods or is it still something in the works?
The Zayta series was an unfortunate victim of pure fishing buying the 3m powerlux resin.
Dobyns is fanatical about balance, tapers and weight and just when they were about to go into production, pure fishing pulled a coup and purchased exclusive rights to said resin. Larger companies like loomis and St croix have the finances and r&d to create their own resin on their high end rods whereas Dobyns unfortunately would have gone back to the drawing board. As far as I can tell, the idea was scrapped and focus was turned towards expanding the current lines. That is why you keep seeing new models in the various lineups as it expands to fit wants of the fisherman.
I was aware of the resin issue but thought that given the time that has passed between then and now they may have entertained the idea again. With all the folks onboard with their rods from staffers to joes alike, there should be plenty of brand loyal guys and plenty of word of mouth chatter. If they launched a Zayta at $400 -450 that would be a more reasonable price than what other companies have put their high end rods at. Oh well, they probably did market sampling or some other statistical test to see if they think they would profit enough for such a rod line. Maybe in the future we will see something...
Let's hope!
interesting spot in the lineup. at the same price point, does make one wonder if the savvy will go away, especially with the cloud of negativity around the savvy line.
Great...named after my girlfriend. Gonna have to get it.
Wonder if itll be as lively in my hands?
D@mmit all. I already have enough trouble saving my money.

Aren't you sponsored by Dobyn's?

Do you think a sponsoship automatically equates to free rods? Spoiler alert, it doesn't.
Don't quote me but iirc Dobyns is like 40% off or something if they sponsor your college club.
Dobyns does a lot of heavy discounts for pro staff and organizations/clubs

I get that.
Just got off the phone with dobyns! Being local rocks! They have the new sierras in stock. I will be buying mine tomorrow.
Ya I have 40% off. Still, tuition plus Dobyns and Lew's = $$$
703sf on its way and grabbed a Procyon for it
not 100% but I think the Luvias would match it better far as I can tell by pics

So according to Rich at Dobyns, it's the same blank as the savvy, just has the upgraded cork and new guides. It's eventually going to replace the savvy provided no backlash haha.
Gross. I'm out!
I'll probably buy one, I was gonna buy a SS734 anyway, why not get a different rod too haha
Just got back from the dobyns distribution center in yuba city ca. Got a 702 Sierra. Nice rod. My new dedicated drop shot rod! The cork is nice!
I just talked to someone at tackle warehouse and they said they won't be carrying them. Wierd.
Also Rich Dobyns was down there and I had a while to speak with him. He told me the blank for the sierra was different but close to the savy. I fished mine quite a bit yesterday "ss702" and for drop shot it performed great!

Not the same blank....said to be upgraded and adjusted slightly.
I was just at the dobyns warehouse and spoke to Rich personally. He said they are not the same.
Fuji guides instead of kigen due to inconsistent product and aa Portugal cork is a nice touch
Hm. I'll stand corrected then, I must have misinterpreted him.
Potentially not gross. I might be in.

94% chance these are gross relative to their "upgraded blank" expectation if people are thinking of buying these for a feel presentation. Wish they offered full grips in this line for rods 7'+. Savvy's are/were fantastic moving bait rods. The champion isn't a great blank as a standalone rod. More of a nice utility rod than anything. Doubt the new sierra exceeds the Champ blank which will again be an underwhelming "feel" blank. They do make some awesome chatterbait/spinnerbait/swim jig rods (Savvy). Hope they don't change the tapers.
I was under the impression the blanks would have the same "actions/tapers" as the Savvys. Not the actual same blank.
