rumor curado , citica and cruix may be gone 2024

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

Anyone else hear shimano might dicontinue or upgrade their line up. I heard the curado def not sure of the other 2.This is what some else said.....Shimano is going to release a new Curado. Its going back to the old green color that it used to be. It's also going to be smaller, lighter, and the price is going down some compaired to the models we have now. This is why Shimano offered the rebate to sell as many of this model as they could. :-/

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Who is somebody else ?

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

I read this on another forum as well

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

Looks like they need to redue the Cardiff also >>>http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1205614999

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

This is a spill-over from a discussion on Tackle Tour (which was a spillover from Texasfishing), and there is nothing definate there.

Why would Shimano discontinue (or revamp the Curado)?   If they want to complete int he $150 range, they ought to just lower the price of the current Curado to $150.  The Curado 100D is a nice reel, but I never understood what made it a $200 reel.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I hope the rumor is true about the Curado.  I have one of the old ones and it has been a rock solid performer.  I did purchase one of the new 201 and returned it after fishing for a day.  It was like fishing with a tank.  It just didn't seem to be as comfortable to palm as my old Curado.

I too thought after fishing it that the $200 price was not justified.  It is still a very nice reel but again I like my old one better.

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

If that rumor is true, then Abu and Quantum are dumping their reels too since they followed Shimano in offering rebates.  Why would they down grade the current Curado into what the Citica already is minus everybodies crying about the weight?  To offer HEG and the other current features, it would undoubtedly have to me made off shore from Japan.  Its amazing how a physical object could become such a cult object and cause such hatred for a company when they change it.

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Ok, this is both good and bad.  Good for new stuff coming in but bad if they are cleaning house.... I'm going to buy some more Castaics.  I don't ever want to be without Castaics in the next 20 yrs (if I live that long).

fishing user avatarGitRDoneIke23 reply :

I hadn't heard anything about it. Interesting if it's true!!!

;) 8-)

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

this someone else was on tackle tour....we will know if bantam1 answers the question on shimano page on tackletour

Correct me if im wrong but shimano was the first to have rebates so other manufactues jumped on the banwagon :;)

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

Yes they were 1st and the others followed.  But it would be safer to assume they did it for the same reason, to spur sales in an economy where there is less disposable income being spent on recreational items.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

If these rumors are true I would suspect there's a Revo connection to all this.

I'm betting the Revo introduction has really cut into the Shimano sales for reels in the $100-200 range.  I only say that because Shimano has rarely ever offered any discount in the past on their merchandise.  Add the poor economy and I wonder if Shimano isn't just trying to move reels or they actually are going to revamp the line to more reflect something resembling the Revo line with smaller reels with more line capacity.

I've also noticed a large number of newer Curado's and Citica's for sale used, on the forums and Ebay, vs. very few Revo owners selling used.  Also on the used reel front,  of the few that you see for sale, a used or factory reconditioned Revo S or SX is selling only 15 - 20% under retail (on average) compared to the Citica or Curado which is probably closer to 30% or more.  The Cruxis, while a nice reel, doesn't seem to have any following at all.

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

Well Bantam gave a response on tackletour, but I cant really tell what he is saying...

Curado is a GREAT real, but it's not a $200 reel, well it shouldn't be! I have one, and LOVE IT, but it's not that much better then the Citica which was sold for $80 less. It sure wasn't worth $80 more ;D

He gave the only answer he probably can and keep his job which is basically "no comment". I asked the question over there figuring that was the answer I'd get.

It's up for grabs at the moment and we likely won't find anything out until ICAST but I'm betting that something is changing. Abu and Daiwa are offering more reel for the same bucks as the Curado, in the case of the Daiwa Supertuned they're offering more reel for less bucks. Shimano has to do something or lose market share.

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

yea all bantam1 said is i cant disguss future plans ;)... i would relly like to know cause im ganna hold off on buying a curado.....

fishing user avatarGone_Phishin reply :

I'd like to see a change. The 100/01 doesn't have a big line capacity, nor HEG. For those who want to buy the current 100/01 for a plastics reel, it's not all that fast at 25 IPT.

The 200/01 is as FishTank said, 'a tank.' It is pretty heavy as well at 9.8 oz. I really think Shimano screwed-up with this model of the Curado. Not saying it's not a nice reel, I just think they coulda thought this one out better. JMHO.

It's either a small, slow reel or a BIG reel, there is no happpy middle ground here. Doesn't make sense. I understand that people want tech specific reels, but Shimano swung and missed with this one. Again, JMHO.

fishing user avatarsal669 reply :

My opinion:

It's called "GREED"...$$$$$$$$$$$$..to the highest level.

Shimano did little more than design changes to their high selling models and almost doubled the prices. If I remember correctly, Currado was a hundred $ reel when it came on the market, and it was a lot of reel for the money. It became their best seller. So shimano changed the color and shape a little bit and raised the MSRP 25%. It worked ! So they did it again. And again...Take advantage of the market as long as you can !

No more sales, no more discounts, no more charity (BPS reel trade in comes to my mind). Just $$$$$$$$$$

They are on the down slope now and they are hurting... Daiwa and ABU takes away big chunks of market share...And they have to get rid of the overpriced merchendise by discounting them. Thus the mail in rebates. And they are still ahead of the game(making fools of their customers) because they are using your money for 2 months without paying interest ( between purchase and the time the buyer gets his money).

It's just ecomomics...

Shimano is not the best bang for your money anymore ( unless in clearance) with very few exceptions.

Again, it's just my opinion.

fishing user avatardjmax22 reply :

I have a few of the old Curados (green). I felt that these were solid reels. I was one of the many who went out and bought a new Curado just becuase of the name and past performance. I immediately returned it. No way the Curado is worth $200 and this is coming from a diehard Shimano User. There are so many better options out there and for $50 more you can step up to an Mg, Zillion, or Premier. I hope they revamp the whole Curado line.

It also ticked me off this year they didnt participate in the BPS trade-in. You could get a Quantum Burner for $150 with $50 rebate and $50 trade-in.

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

The 200 size may be too heavy or big or whatever to bass fishermen but there is an entire world out there fishing for more than just bass.  Its perfect for snook, baby tarpon, reds and such.  A growing market that inshore is.  Shimano has never marketed the Curado as a bass or freshwater reel such as Daiwa does with their magnesium reels.  It has more of a drag than any Daiwa or Abu save the revo.  But many such as myself will never buy a reel made in Sri-lanka, Bangledesh, Taiwan or Korea.  As much as all of you have missed the old Curado, I will miss the new one and I felt it worth the $200 just because it is made in Japan.  I dont think Shimano ever tauted the newer Curado to be the replacement for the old, thats what the Citica was for.

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

but the reel thing that sux is that we dont know for sure what SHIMANO is doing with the curado if its a rumor or not :-/... iv used the new curado its nice but no better then the bsf which without the rebate and is no way worth the extra 50 bucks and is heavier...Come on shimano give us something we want ;) light, throw some nice colors in their like diawa reels, smaller profile and holds 12/120 yards

fishing user avatarSaladmander reply :

If I were to guess at Bantam1's response, I'd have to say that a change is coming. Otherwise you'd get a response more along the lines of, "We have just redesigned the line of reels with a lot of positive feedback. The line is doing well, and we expect these reels to stick around for awhile." Or, something like that. In my experience with consumer electronics, most reps will respond the way Bantam1 did when a change is coming, if the word gets out prematurely. If a rumor were false, the rep would usually respond with confidence in backing up the success and strengths of the product(s) to reassure its position in the market.

fishing user avatarcootertom reply :

I bought three of the new Curado 100DSV. The only reason was that I found them on sale at Simmon's Sporting Goods at $149 apeice and then received the $50 rebate per reel. I had to pay sales tax and shipping and ended up with $109 in each reel. I sent the old green Shimano 100 to Reel Mechanic and it performs better than the new reels and is also lighter. I have found that this is my primary reel for cranking becuse of size and weight. Never had another reel but Shimano but??????

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

Yeah thats the clincher.  You buy a model thats 2 years on the market.  You expect it to be around awhile and not to have to worry about availability of replacement parts.  Now they'll change it because everybody cries about 1.8oz of weight.  Make it magnesium so it cant be used in brackish water(even if they say it can).  Worse make it in Taiwan to make it $20 cheaper because $20 is almost as important to the crowds as 1oz of weight.  They might as well be Daiwa.

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

The word is bantam1 isnt talking so u now something is coming ;D....

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

just reed on tackle tour someone called shimano and said curado is discontinued ;)...so something new is coming ;D

fishing user avatarmichbass reply :

yeah Shimano should just go back to bike parts.

totally kidding, hard to believe they are redoing a well built popular line already. I guess time will tell. Like the Core though, have crossed over for that one.  ;)  Just picked up a Curado 100 used like the feel and looks of it. Waiting on ice out to give it a try.

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

Gee I wonder how Abu and Quantum feel following the rebate train just to find out that Shimano did it to unload whats going to be outdated stock.  Cant believe I fell for the car salesmen trick of a rebate to get rid of last years model.  The 300 has only been out a year!  Shimano's really letting down the inshore market.  They have plenty of bass specific models but not much for us.  Cant use the mag. models even if it does have a thin protective skin, seen too many disolve.  Cant use the Calais, you cant do your own maintenance.

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

I heard this from a reputable source before reading it online.  Bantam1 over on Tackle Tour verified this as being true by his reply of 'No Comment'.  It is very obvious that a 'No Comment' response is used if something is true, and if it is not true than the rumor is put to rest by just  saying "Not true...this is totally false!".  If somebody asks you if you're gay...you are going to say HELL NO!  If you really are gay, you are probably going to say 'No comment'.  I'm not saying Shimano is gay, just trying to illustrate  ;) ;D

WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN SHIMANO REELS :;)

It's nice to see that you're coming over to the good side (ABU) muddy ;)

fishing user avatarBass Pro reply :

I don't see why they didn't get it right the first time.  I mean their whole deal with replacing the old green curado's with the new ones is because they "claimed" to have been listening to their customers who wanted lighter reels, with better ergonomics and also wanted all the plastic parts replace with metal.  All they did was replace the plastic parts with metal.. I guess now they are going back and doing what they should have done to start with.. but only time will tell if they get it right on this attempt or not.
