I am thinking about buying a spooling station so that i can get my line tight on my reel. Any suggestions on what i should do to get my line tighter on my spool?
I love my Berkely spooling station, and use it to spool all of my reels - casting, spinning, and fly.
I use one if the aluminum portable ones that has the suction cup in the bottom. Probably one of the best investments I've made. Although I did have toodify it slightly to get the results I wanted.
I don't use one, I use my hand or my girlfriend's hand.
that came out wrong... She holds the spool, that's what I meant. Haha.On 4/15/2012 at 11:37 PM, outdoorsman110 said:I don't use one, I use my hand or my girlfriend's hand.
My wife used to be my spooling station. She's happy I purchased the Berkley Works very well!
i use the Shark Tooth KVD Leader Comtrol to spool all of my reels.
i never seen the point of one iv always used a pen or something stuck between couch cushions if no one was around to hold it and just pinched it between my fingers as it went onto my reel. after all its only gonna be wraped on there nice and perfict till u use the thing then that first cast its goneand comes back on the spool the same way wether i used a station or a pen wedged in some thing. maybe im mistaken but thats my take on it

i used to do the same thing I thought i don't need any spooling station!! until i got one and now i will never go back lol
I never even thought about buying one. I due what I heard a long time ago. I run the line through some heavy books.
Get the Berkley Spooling Station. Well worth the money and a real time-saver.
I don't have one, but I think it's a worthwhile investment, especially for mono lines. At present I just want to get the line onto the spool, I always soak my line in warm water before spooling, then before my initial use I go the inlet(fast moving river or stream would work too) troll my line out and it's perfect.
I think mine helps me put line on bait casters more consistently.
Never used one. Just lay the spool on the ground, and pinch the line between my fingers as its reeled in. Halfway give a spray of L&L, then finish reeling in the rest. Never had a problem for 15 years. Spend your money on better stuff.
Here's my spooling station.

The Berkley model is alot cheaper and won't eat all of your Oreos.
Wish they made one with a line counter.....that way you could figure out easier how much you have used on a spool and then know if you can fill another spool or are gonna run short....
Jeff
x2 for 30$ I could get 20 bags of hand poured soft baits from my tackleshop. Or I could get some sweet line spools. On 4/16/2012 at 9:36 PM, LgMouthGambler said:Never used one. Not a fan, but I spool from 3000yd or 1 lb spools most of the time, those little spools can be a pain in the ****.

Just get a clip on line counter. That's what I use.

Thanks! I always thought those were for trolling, but guess they can work both ways huh? Dummy me!
Jeff
Yep, just flip it. If you have two of the same reel, start with 75 yards of braid. Then join the backer and fill it. Then transfer to the other reel. Take measurements of the backer as well, for the other reel.
That was exactly my plan.......my backup was to fill it all with cheap backer, put on 3/4 oz weight and throw it as far as I could. Then peel off a couple arm lengths more, then fill with braid. That must be the redneck way huh?
Jeff
75 yards will give enough braid for a season's worth of reties. Plus, 150 and 300 yard spools get divided up evenly.
One of these guys (or similar) -

...and a wooden dowel. $10? Maybe? I think it was even cheaper than that. The paper towel holder is mounted in my garage so I just do it that way.
Why waste the money because you can do it fine without one so I would say no on it
I think the filling station is a nice way to load your reels and have a bit more organization, I'd considered it. I don't really see the need for all this measuring, once you have done a few reels you should be able to eyeball the amount of backing you want to use. I know many use 50-65# braid on b/c, that stuff isn't that thin, I'd just go straight braid, won't have that much on the reel anyway.

This is gonna come in extremely handy! Thanks for that link! Now I won't have to play the guessing game anymore.
Hello, I use something called a Spoolin Buddy I actually own 2 of them, they hold any where from 4 to 15 spools of line at a time and are very portable I cant fir it on my boat while im fishing or in my truck, I used a Berkley before but the spoolin buddy fishing line spooling station is much better! here some more infohttp://www.spoolinbuddy.com
I drilled a hole into my computer desk, stick a pencil through it, put the spool on and hold it in place with hair tie's. With 4 girls in the house they won't miss 2 of them.
The hair tie's work better than rubber bands because they allow enough movement in the spool to get your line tight to the reel but not too tight.
Works perfect
I've had my Berkley station for some thing like 30 years and I'll buy another the day the current one craps out. I don't find it is efficient for spinning reels but is sure works for bait casters.
Never used one. I had someone hold on to the spool or run the line through books.
Ive tried the Berkely they sell and BPS and it crapped out fast, didnt seem to be made to cope with the weight of even a 1/4lb. spool. If ever I have $ laying around to burn Im gonna try the wooden one most fly fishing catalog's sell. The home made one Ive built imitating it, lasted longer than the Berkely but still suffered from me being the builder!
I think I paid a few bucks for one that attaches to your rod. You can set the tension and away you go.
I just made one. Cost me like $17 but I was able to enjoy the contents.
what about this thing?
I like that box idea, does the hole get elongated with the pencil running thru it? Maybe a bolt, washers and nut would work too.
I only use mono on a few rigs that I have, but I do quite a bit of respooling on those combos. I limp my line out under hot water, spool it up and troll the line out in current before I fish with it.
