So I am looking for a new casting reel, the most I would like to spend is 80 but I can do 90 if it is worth it. I am looking to put it on a medium heavy rod. I have had the abu garcia black max before and wasnt too impressed and would like something nicer. So far, I have looked at the Abu Garcia Orra sx, *** origin A, Lews Laser MG speed spool and shimano caenan. Any advice on which of these reels are better than the other or new suggestions are appreciated
If ur interested, I have a Shimano Citica 200hg for 90 dollars shipped. It's a good reel, i just upgraded to a curado 70
Daiwa Tatula CT 100's can be found new around $90, Walmart has then listed at $89.99

In that price range, I strongly reccomend a Pflueger President XT. It is a great little reel. I prefer it over any over my other reels I paid a lot more money for. This reel isn’t even in the same conversation as a Black Max in my opinion. I’ve used all the reels in the Abu Max series and none of them can touch the President XT when it comes to performance. If $80 is your budget, definitely give the Pflueger President XT a try.
Tatula CT, easily. Check eBay. A few reputable sellers have them brand new for around $90.
It's leaps and bounds better than the reels you posted. I have 5 of them. They're great.

Well, I do have all pflueger spinning reels so I do trust them, but I am a little hesitant about their casting reels because they are known for spinning

I use several other Pflueger casting reels as well, and they are all quality, great-performing reels. I have all Pflueger spinning reels as well, and their casting stuff performs just as flawless.
Tatula CT. Fuego CT. Best bang for your buck out there. There are also tuning parts for the platform such as the Rays Studio spools to turn one into a poor mans Pixy.
I have not tried many casting reels. But I haven needed to. I have the an Abu Ora sx that I've been using for 2 1/2 seasons. It's on a 7' mh. It gets fished hard. Spinner baits and crank baits mostly on that one. T rigs sometimes too. I fish 4-7 days a week from June to October. I have 3 oras in total now because I like that one so much.

There is an orra sx on sale right now for 70, dont know if I should pull the trigger, I am nervous about buying because I am not old enough for a job so I dont have a big disposable income

I would suggest no. I have an Abu Garcia Gen 3 Revo SX and I have a Tatula CT. The Revo's are $150ish and the CTs are 90ish. The Tatula CT is a much better reel in nearly every aspect. I will not buy any reels other than Tatula SVs and Tatula CTs from this point forward.
Cant seem to find one in my budget for 90, would it not matter too much if I got the type-R

what about the type r
ABU Garcia Revo SX is in that price range and a good reel.
Would anybody be interested in an abu Garcia vengeance medium heavy 6 foot 6 spinning for 40 dollars
Pflueger casting reels are the Rodney Dangerfield of casting reels. I realize you are too young to know what that means so I'll tell you...."they get no respect". Unfortunate because my experience with Pflueger casting reels has been all good. I've used the old Trion that sold for $100 and the older blue Patriarch XT that sold for $250. Both were excellent reels for the money and are still in use.
The Supreme is a $100 reel. $74.76 with free shipping from here: https://www.ebay.com/p/Pflueger-Sup64lhlp-Supreme-Baitcast-Fishing-Reel/1610417315
Unfortunately at that price there are quite a few reels offered only in right hand. Otherwise I'd suggest a Pinnacle. Mine is more expensive than your budget, but has been a fantastic reel for me.
Okuma is another reel seldom mentioned. The Calera is in your budget. A review: http://best-fishingtackle.com/fishing-reels/baitcasting/okuma-calera-low-profile/ $60 price: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050430.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xokuma+calera+left+hand+casting+reel.TRS0&_nkw=okuma+calera+left+hand+casting+reel&_sacat=0
Daiwa Fuego CT left hand. https://www.ebay.com/p/Daiwa-Fuego-Ct-Baitcasting-Reel-FGCT100HL/1603926622 I have one coming for a sister-in-law. Price was $55 plus $7.25 for shipping so $62.25 total. I got lucky. Tackletour gave it a "Best Value Award".
I have no experience with the Shimano Caenan but it gets pretty good reviews.
Another "Best Value Award" went to the Tatula. Personally I like Daiwas a lot and the Tatula would be my first choice if you can find one in your price range.

Thanks for the effort you put into this post! I’ll definitely be looking into pflueger casting reels now.
Shimano casitas
The Casitas and Caenan are plastic. $90 is aluminum framed reel money and the Tatula and Fuego are the top dogs at the pricepoint. If want a plastic reel then save some $ and get a Kastking Spartacus or Assassin. Stay away from the Royal Legend or Stealth.
Shimano casitas

When I looked into pflueger casting reels I couldn't find any leftys under $100. That was just a couple months ago. I ended up getting a Tatula SV for $130 on eBay. I'm very happy with it. I would recommend keeping an eye on eBay for a few months. Prices on tatula ct leftys were $80 a while back and I imagine they should come back down during winter. Black Friday isn't too far off either.
Wow the resale value of the tatulas sure went way down.

In 1916 the first Pflueger Baitcast reel was manufactured in Akron, Ohio, and became a benchmark of the fishing reel industry.
The Pflueger spinning reel was introduced in 1954.

Both statements are true, however the Pflueger casting reels that were highest level of craftsmanship during the 40's and 50's failed to make needed changes to keep pace with the Swedish design Abu Ambassaduer free spool lighter weight reel in the 60's.
Today the Pflueger company manufacturers no reels, they own their brand and trademark reel names, importing reels sold through discount houses and mail order. Okuma manufactured imported Pflueger reels, not sure who mfr's Pflueger reels today?
I should add that very few Abu Ambassaduer reels are made in Sweden today, the majority are imported from China.

I have a number of Tatula Type R's. If you get one in your price range, jump on it. Well worth more . IIRC, I paid between $110 and $125 for each of mine and have zero buyer's remorse.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Lews-Speed-Spool-LFS-Baitcast-Fishing-Reel-SSG1HL-6-8-1-LH-Lews/131454423822?epid=691194371&hash=item1e9b4b530e:g:1pIAAOSwX~dWsQ1d
So, without the daiwas in question, the shimano caenan has 4BB +1, but the Pflueger President Xt has 9 BB, does this mean that the xt is smoother, or just has cheap bearings while the shimano has higher quality bearings, I am confused.
Hi Mich,
I have both the Caenan and the Casistas (two of each). They perform very well and have proven to be good and reliable reels. I also have two of the Curado 70's, four Curado 300e's, one Curado 200e, a Curado K, a Citica Xship. two Chronarch's (CI4 model), a Scorpion JDM, one Tranx and a Metanium MGL JDM. So I might be a little Shimano biased.
Not going to say anything about the Tatula's I've never tried them. From what I have seen here, elsewhere on the web and in the tournament circles the Diawa's are fine reels too.
Regards,
Fishingmickey
p.s. I wouldn't pay a lot of attention to the number of bearings, it is the quality of them that counts.

Doesn't throw small baits well, but I use mine for spinnerbaits and cranks quite a bit, I can palm them all day long.
Bearings have little to do with the smoothness of the reel unless one has failed. The main gear, pinon gear and how well they are cut and how they mesh are the main culprits in reel smoothness. I'm sorry to report that my Casitas MGL is the most geary plastic reel I own and I am not able to recommend that particular platform.

Agree. Picked up a left hand Fuego CT for $55 + $7.25 shipping for a sister-in-law to get her into baitcasting. Looked 2 days later and couldn't find the same deal.

the Lews that I listed above is from a place called SportsmansOutfitters. They aren't a private dude in his underwear reselling counterfeit broken junk. They use ebay as a storefront. They also have a web site that you can buy from if you feel more comfortable. I've bought from them multiple times and you can rest assured that it is as solid a source as going into your local brick and mortar store.

That happens when you can buy a new Tatula for less than $100 and a Fuego for less than $70. Those buying the reels for retail shouldn't be surprised when they can't sell a used reel for more than what a new reel can be found on ebay. Or even at ebay prices. Given a choice of a new reel at $100 or a used reel at $95 which would you buy?
That is why I never pay MSRP and wait for new reel prices to come down. Closeout prices are even better. Would love to try a Curado K, but if I bought one now and decided next year that it wasn't for me, I'd be lucky to get 50% of what I paid for it even if it had only been used a couple times and looked like new. I'm with you that it suxs what a like new used reel goes for...if you are the seller. It seems to me that people think a used one has to be at least 40% below new price or they are getting stiffed. Probably why I've only sold one reel and that was practically a give away (of a like new Tatula) to a college kid wanting to get into baitcast reels. Who am I kidding? Truth be told I hate the idea of selling any of my reels.
The New President with the *** style grips is highly rated and is rated as the best buy and only $80. You can find them for less already on ebay, then again, you can buy a Revo S or SX on ebay for under $90, Daiwa Fuego 69, Tatula 88,
I would buy a Pro Max for $39 on ebay. that is a great reel, the Orra Sx is awesome for $65, I would only be worried about it being discontinued for parts, but then again I believe it is ultimately the same as a few other reels which look the same, just different name.
Shimano Caenan for $69 is a great deal, Casistas is a bit more and only difference is the braking system which I don't think makes much difference, If you want a lews, a guy has the Tournament MG for $89, LFS are 75ish.
Lastly, Ducket 320 for 65 and it was top rated casting reel overall 3 years ago by the most reputable imo review by outdoor life at a price of $279, maybe it was the larger 360 but a new ducket 320 is over 200, I just grabbed one at 65 and It is as nice as any reel I own if not smoother with 13 quality bearings, it feels way better than my Tatula's, and every other 200 range reel, curado included, just my take. Have only had it for a few weeks but reviews are awesome.
The companies on Ebay are the same as buying from any online site. They guys auctioning reels every minute, great feedback, legacy fishing and many others are also websites and have storefronts in different state. Local shops by me who are Okuma dealers have Ebay shops to help move inventory. Small business tackle shops are dying, Ebay is a great tool to move last years stock especially reels since they drop in price every year. Bass Pro has an Ebay and Amazone site as well. I have purchased rods and reels new you can even buy insurance if you want, Ebay holds buyers responsible and you would get money back if you had a problem. I have only had one issue ever and was refunded within a few hours once I put it back in the mail. Was a factory defect, Ebay sellers often add in free stuff so you come back. $80 cover, and braid for a tatula last week not a bad deal, gone in a few hours, but look at auctions, brands like Browning, Ardent, Cabela;s-Daiwa, Pflueger baitcasters often go really cheap since not searched for, same for quantum reels.
