Attaching Braid to Fluorocarbon 2024

fishing user avatarMnAngler21 reply :

What are the best knots for attaching braid to a fluorocarbon leader?

fishing user avatarNick49 reply :

There are several but I have found the uni to uni knot to be very reliable and easy to tie.

fishing user avatarlong island basser reply :

I like the Alberto ( modified Albright).

fishing user avatarno39 reply :

+1 on the Alberto.  It has the smallest profile of any knot I've found.  It's also pretty quick to tie as well.

fishing user avatarTeam9nine reply :
  1. FG knot
  2. Alberto/Modified Albrght
  3. 'J' knot

fishing user avatarFishinthefish reply :

Alberto or fg knot. It depends for me based on how rough the water is. If it's too rough I'llalways do the alberto, it's easier for me. Although from what I've read the fc knot is stronger.

fishing user avatartander reply :

Albright, easy to tie and does not slip.

fishing user avatarBrianinMD reply :

Alberto

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Uni to Uni only because I have confidence in it. Others are smaller and I hear they hold just as good. Find the one you like, and can tie correctly every time...That's the one for you.

Another vote for the Alberto.

fishing user avatarMugs reply :

Has anyone here tried the Red Phillips knot? I find it one of the easiest to tie..

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

Do you Alberto guys find the Albright lacking somehow or do you just feel better adding the extra wraps? I use the Albright and can't remember ever having a knot fail.

I use the Albright sometimes, when I wrap enough times up
the leader. I found that with Yo Zuri Hybrid and P-Line Floroclear
that a straight Albright can slip, even when properly tied and
cinched down.

So I go up 7-10 wraps and back down 4-5 and have found those
extra wraps down to secure the knot a little better. Just my .02.
I did 17-20 wraps for the Albright and that worked well, too. Less
slippage.

Point of clarity, the slippage is usually on the 6-10 lb line, but not
so much with 12-15 lb line.

I'm a fan of the uni to uni.  I have total confidence in the knot, especially after catching several 26"+ red drum on 10lb sufix 832 with 14lbs Vicious fluoro.

I had it fail once (probably the archer, not the arrow) and that was enough for me. I found the Modified Albright and in my mind the double wraps back just made sense to me. I have never had one fail. I started using it and have never looked back.

fishing user avatarolegs reply :

Uni to Uni knot.

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

uni to uni works just fine for me

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

I have been tournament fishing for 4 years now.  The first three were using a uni-uni with very good success.  I did have some incidents of losing my leader which led me to explore other options.  After hearing from this forum about the love for the Alberto knot I spent last winter practicing it and committed to it last year.  Found the Alberto to be much much stronger and reliable.  I lost lures (pike, pickeril, hangups etc.) but not once did I lose my whole leader.   I'm sold.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

Alberto.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

Minus 5 billion on double-uni for me, I had breakage issues no matter how carefully I tied it.  I use a tiny Spro Power Swivel now and have had zero issues since, and won't look back.

not as small as the FG knot.  Easiest reliable knot is the double uni, best for strength and diameter is the FG.

I've been meaning to getting around to learn it, but the videos I've found make it look a bit cumbersome. I suppose it can't be that bad.  I've had the alberto fail me before so this might be better. Thanks.

fishing user avatarKlebs01 reply :

Triple overhand. Super easy and strong. Haven't found a knot that is as easy to tie and as reliable. Will be trying the fg this season for some applications with small guides, but it's not nearly as friendly to tie on the boat.

fishing user avataronetime reply :

Alberto for me as well.

fishing user avatarJ._Bricker reply :

Blood Knot, which is similar to Uni to Uni and is easy for me to tie.  A drop of Krazy glue doesn't hurt..

Updated..Just broke off a good fish at the knot last week.  Thanks everyone, using the Alberto now.

Continued good fishing, JB

fishing user avatarFurther North reply :

Add another fan of the FG and the Alberto.

fishing user avatarMDBowHunter reply :

I was using a uni to uni but I found that it was a PITA getting through the tiptop of my drop shot rod so this year I'm committing to the Alberto knot. We'll see how it goes

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

Two different ways to tie the FG.

fishing user avatarXyndifor reply :

Thanks for the videos. I've never heard of the fg knot. Always used the Alberto knot.
