Forgive me for doubting. 2024

fishing user avatarBuffdaddy54 reply :

Ok, need to ask forgiveness for doubting and for mocking. I've been on BR since 2015 and have seen threads about Daiwa Reel this, Daiwa Reel that, buy this Daiwa reel  buy that Daiwa reel  spend a little more money than your budget and get xyz Daiwa reel. Yada, yada, yada! Well I sold off all of my lower priced KK reels along with my Pflueger President spinning reels and purchased a Tatula CT, Fuego CT, and a BG 3000 Spinning Reel.

OMG!! I can't believe how sweet these reels are! All of them are rock solid and smooth as silk!! As I write this I am bowing to the greatness of BR. I SHALL NEVER DOUBT AGAIN!!:headbang:

fishing user avatarislandbass reply :

Congrats! The only "bad" thing is that you can never ever go backward reel wise, lol. Ain't happening. Tell me what you like about your BG 3000. Also, does it have an anti-reverse switch?

fishing user avatarBeetlebz reply :

Aaaaand another one bites the dust ????

BG is smooth as silk, yes it does have anti reverse switch. It's a little heavier than I've had before but to me that's not an issue.

fishing user avatarislandbass reply :

Thanks for a prompt response! You see, I have been a Shimano spinning reel person, and I have been out of the reel loop for quite some time.  The last shimano spinning reel I bought was a symetre so that tells you how long.  So there I was checking the shimano models and I was surprised that many of the newer models no longer had an anti-reverse switch and that really surprised and caught me off guard.

I realized deep down, it was an unnecessary feature in a practical sense, no frills, bottom line, which is my typical philosophy but for some reason I couldn't get over it. But gosh almighty, it's a feature I like to use on occasion.

So it was a show stopper for me. No more, because I want what I want in a reel. So Shimano lost me on spinning reels. I still love Shimano but there are some things they make, like their casting reels and mountain bike shifters and components.  I won't use any other mountain bike components.  But now they have two things they make I won't buy. Their road bike components (I prefer campagnolo) and spinning reels.

I've been eyeing the black gold to serve me both fresh and salt water but the "weight" I hope isn't an issue for my arms for super long periods of saltwater fishing.  I am not young anymore, lol and I know fatigue will settle in. Thanks again.

I'm slowly transitioning most of my reels to Diawa. I've tried like 5 different brands at this point and for that 100-200 dollar price range I have been happiest with my Diawa's. I still have my Pflueger president spinning reel on my only spinning outfit though and it's been a reel trooper ???? (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). It's probably my oldest remaining reel and still works great but I might retire it soon and get a BG.

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

About 5 years ago....and for a few years before that....it was Shimano instead of Diawa.  Shimano still makes good reels, but Diawa has upped its game in the lower priced segment.  When I joined 9 plus years ago, many were of the opinion you had to spend at least $250 to get a Diawa that compared to some other brands of an equal price.

But even then I was buying Daiwas.  My first two reels were the original Fuegos on closeout.  A very good reel that was under-rated by many.  My Procaster 100HN was $30 on closeout.  Sure it is a bit bigger and heavier than many other reels that were in its MSRP price range, but it is a very solid reel.  That little extra weight and size never bothers me.

fishing user avatarPatrickKnight reply :

Daiwa is pretty much kicking every other reel manufacture in the teeth right now. The BG at 100 is the best 100 dollar spinning reel ever made imo and the Tatula line offers insane quality for the price. Not to mention Daiwas high end stuff is still as amazing as it always has been.

I finally broke down and bought a used Steez over the winter.   Man!  Sweet.  It is in another ballpark.

fishing user avatarBoomstick reply :

Welcome to the Daiwa train. I have two SVs, a double drag Regal for catfishing and a BG 2000 for finesse and they're all very solid reels.

Good call on the BG too, that reel is an amazing bang for the buck, and is like some reels double the price other than being heavier.

What do you think of the Steez? I don't think I'd ever pay that much for a new one (at least certainly not until I pay off medical bills and get a boat and add a few other rod and reel combinations to the collection), but if I found a used one at a good discount I'd be happy to add it to the collection!

I agree. Daiwa has a lot of spinning reels in that "sweet spot" price range between $50 and $100

I need this thread deleted! Just bought a Fuego and a tatula baitcaster. Trying to wait to Labor Day to upgrade my Walmart spinning reel. Seeing these threads makes me want to buy a new spinning now.

Tacklemonkey says: Father's Day is right around the corner....you're a hardworking guy, go ahead, treat yourself!

And of course...there's always the July 4th Tacklewarehouse sale, and probably an Ebay discount code.

fishing user avatarBuffdaddy54 reply :

So.....now that I'm a member of the Daiwa fraternity is there some sort of initiation, hazing, secret hand shake??

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

You have to join Tackletour....where you will be further enlightened.  You are no longer allowed to spend less than $450 on a rod.  If you are deciding between 2 reels, you must buy both.  :teeth:

fishing user avatarFishDewd reply :

If Daiwa has really good spinning reels at that price range then I'd gladly pick one too! They make really good reels, just the price has always scared me away from a lot of them.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

Oh wow.  This thread couldn't have come at a better time.  I have a 9 yo curado reel, and 2 revo s reels that are 10 years old.  I have been cruising around the internet looking and comparing different reels.  Daiwa keeps coming up as the best option.

fishing user avatarLog Catcher reply :

I bought 2 of the Daiwa Fuego spinning reels Cabelas had on sale. I have only used them twice a little bit. They are super smooth and very little in line problems. My problem is learning to use them. For 15 years I have only used Shimano Spirex reels with the quickfire trigger which I love. I wish these Daiwas had that. I'm still trying to get used to watching where the bail stops to flip it over with the other hand.

fishing user avatarBassguytom reply :

I started switching to Diawa also. I have a Tatula CT SV a Fuego and 3 Ballistics. They are fantastic reels.

Buy a Shimano :)

I haven't started switching to Daiwa, but already have a lot more Daiwas than I would like to admit.  And there are plenty more I'd like to have.  :rofl_red:

Daiwa has been a bit of an unsung hero for a bit now. The magforce brakes are just phenomenal and the build quality is there. It's been fairly recent that they have been doing some things different here to try to get some gusto back in their sales.  One, dropping the price. And big time. Take your mainline reel, put a cheap finish on it and spare the chrome, price it to compete with throw aways like kastking and shishamo (not that either is necessarily bad) but it's paying off big time. Now we are all becoming aware that they're the great reels they are. Are they better than shimano? Meh, not necessarily. It's alot of personal preference. They make it pretty hard to make a bad choice, which is good for us, the principle demographic ????

Very well put

fishing user avatarbhoff reply :

Until now I though thought that people saying "shishamo" were just trolling using a different spelling of "shimano". Finally just looked it up and ... hahahahaha.

fishing user avatard-camarena reply :

Ill be honest, im a shimano fanboy, the reason i have bought some daiwas is because I have kids and a house to pay and i dont have a lot of money to spend on fishing. My price point for rods and reels is 100 max each. With shimano a decent setup would be around 300, i wouldnt spend that on a combo right now. So i bought a daiwa 2 daiwa bg's for $65 each and 2 airdx rods for $ 45 each and now i have to combos for the price of one.

I still believe shimano makes the best reels at a higher price point, its just that i cannot buy at that price point.

For an apples to apples comparison I don’t think Diarrhea has a spinner in the class of the ci4 for the money.  On the caster fronts I still think the Mets and Conquest are the king of the hills, but that is this simple mans opinion......Additionally, I think the Bantam has staying power....again, just an opinion.  Before I went to some higher end reels, I reach out to several guys that work and tweak reels and asked which company had more issues and the majority of replies were diarrhea.....that said, for 100.00 it is hard to beat them

The Tatula LT gets comparable reviews to the CI4 and costs less.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

As I have said for years...if you pick Daiwa or Shimano you will not only be happy in the short term but you will be happy in the long term especially if you take care of your stuff. This will show up in the longevity of the reel, the resell value, and should you get a wild hair, the tuning parts internally and cosmetically. For what Daiwa has done with the Fuego CT, Tat Ct, Tat SV, etc. (all Sub $200 reels) they certainly have some fine offerings!
