Looks like Shimano has two new casting reels coming at iCast next month. These were posted by a rep at Shimano on another website this morning, so I would assume these are accurate descriptions and pictures. The Chronarch looks to be the exact same at the MGL except with a saltwater friendly spool. The new Curado looks to be an overhaul featuring a new paint job and micro module gearing. I also like that they're now coming stock with 90mm handles.
Chronarch G
Packed with Shimano’s most advanced technology, the new Shimano Chronarch G casting reel delivers the top level performance enthusiast saltwater anglers require. The new Chronarch G is fitted with Shimano’s MicroModule gearing, providing a more efficient gear train with a smoother, more positive feel.
-Light inshore saltwater reel, perfect for wade fishing for speckled trout, redfish and flounder. Great for spotted bay bass, calico and sand bass.
-MicroModule gearing provides more and smaller gear teeth for a more positive, efficient engagement and smoother feel
-SVS Infinity
-Cross Carbon drag washers
- Composite frame
-Ci4+ side plates
- 8+1 S-ARB bearings
- 90mm handle (HG) 95mm handle (XG)
-6.5 oz (HG) 6.7 OZ (XG)
11 pounds max drag
MSRP - $279.99
Curado K
The new 7th generation of Curado is a complete redesign loaded with new features. Built tournament tough, Curado is the benchmark for reliability and durability. Generations of anglers have looked to Curado as their trusted partner.
Shimano gives you more than ever with the new Curado K series reels. Now featuring the latest in Shimano technology, such as super smooth, efficient, durable MicroModule gearing, and offered in multiple gear ratios up to 8.5:1, Curado builds on its legacy as the ‘go to’ baitcasting reel for both fresh and saltwater action
A new matte black appearance with Curado "green" spool and cast control knob for a nod to the old B model.
MicroModule gearing uses smaller gear teeth to make for a smoother retrieve. By allowing more teeth to contact each other, the gear train becomes more efficient.
The latest generation of SVS Infinity allows for a wider adjustment with the brakes. The new design reduces vibration and maintenance. The result is a smoother and longer cast.
Reduced frame size to allow for a more comfortable feel in the hand. The 10% reduction in both length and width make the reel easier to palm and reduces fatigue.
The B side (palm side) plate is now attached to the reel.
6.2:1/26 Inches Per Crank
7.4:1/ 30 Inches Per Crank
8.5:1/ 36 Inches Per Crank
11 pounds max drag
90mm Handle Length
6+1 bearings (4 S-ARB, 2 SUS and Roller bearing)
Aluminum frame, CI4+ A-side, Graphite B-side
7.6 ounces (standard and HG)
7.8 ounces (XG)
MSRP - $179.99
Wow they took the PG out, no more 5 gear ratio.
Curado available for Pre-Order on TW.
This was on their instagram page today. Looks pretty slick!
The Curado has me interested.

That stinks, I wanted a new 10XD reel!
The handle is the right length for me. Mmmm, no Bait Monkey No!
One of those new Curados is defenitly coming home with me! The Chronarch i think i´ll pass it for now (same for the Mgl), my two Ci4+ are still going strong...
Curado looks pretty nice.. New slightly smaller size and micro-gearing.. I've got a bunch of Curado I's though and like the size just fine.. gearing will probably make it feel a bit smoother or more refined.
The Chronarch looks like they literally just took the Chronarch MGL and removed the magnum lite spool (the only thing that made it a freshwater only reel) ?? Specs look pretty much identical and same exact price point... I have both the MGL and Ci4+ versions of the chronarch and love them, but this doesn't look like much of an upgrade... more like they just made an MGL with a saltwater friendly spool?
The new Curado is a 200 size according to the Shimano website.

The MGL is a better reel. Missing out, yes I help the bait monkey.
Looks like everyone will be happy about the aluminum frame on the Curado.

I think it's supposed to have a smaller frame/body profile. I'm liking the addition of the 8.5:1 gear ratio.

That 8 ratio is going to be a great frogging reel.

They said it's 10% smaller
That's Weird. Per a Shimano rep on another forum, the Aldebaran doesn't have Micro Module Gearing because of the CI4+ side plates. The new Chronarch has micro module gearing and is not made of CI4+. But the new Curado has a Ci4+ A side plate and Micro module gears. I'm assuming the A-side plate is the handle side plate.
Anyways, I'm still holding out of a Magnesium frame and handle side plate Curado 70 with the MGL Spool. A boy can dream.

The Aldebaran MG7 is probably perfect for you. It's a 50 size and you can find used one's fairly regular if you search around the internet.
I love the 70 size, but man, that black reel in a 50 size.... a man can dream I guess....

I have a Core 50MG7 and Curado 70. Based on those two, I'm Still wishing for that all Magnesium Curado 70 with a 90MM handle. My Daiwa Steez TW SV is the closest thing to it for now...
The new Curado K looks nice though.
Me likey!
Seems backwards to have the spool and cast control knob green.
Eh, after looking into it some more I'm not overly excited for the new Curado. I like that there is a longer handle and an XG model but I don't know how much I like the new color.
To me the best thing about the new K is that the I's will be on clearance.

I know this is no way to feed a gear addiction...but you can just buy a handle the size you prefer....

The spool is a 200 size. And they managed to decrease the size of the body.

When the K's hit the stores I'll bet ya they'll be less than that.

Yeah, I was going to stir up the rumors and wonder if Shimano is going to come out with a Curado K 50 (including the micro gearing). That would be something @ an 8.5 to 1 gear ratio. 9

Give it 6 months to a year. I'm betting we'll see a 50/70 sized Curado K. The 70 sized I series was a huge seller for Shimano, and smaller reels are the new trend in bass fishing right now.
Bassmaster has all the ICAST products for preview...there is also a Curado rod and a Conquest/Loomis rod (price is insane). I am sort of excited to see what Daiwa has to offer (since what Bassmaster has is stuff already out and the new stuff will be seen in the next weeks).
Everyone seems to be happy with curado K. But anyone has experience with Chronarch G?? Some people who has Chronarch mgl complain about noisy things but G owners say Chronarch G is much better reel with black bearings.
