Does this come with a hook?

Answer: no it does not come with a hook. it has a liter attached for the application of a fish hook. will attach many different sizes of hooks.

How many pounds can the line take?& can you put your own line on the reel?

How do they attach to pole/branch/etc.?

Answer: You have to attach your own chord or wire. There is a hole in the upper plate of the yo yo. I use the inner strings from 550 chord, very strong nylon. Just tie a good knot or loop and secure the other end to a tree limb or pole. I have set my yo yo's above and below the water level. Works either way. You can find some good videos on you tube for more info and examples.

Will it work, retract, with a heavier line?

Answer: No you will have to retract it by hand

What type of fishing hook and bait (or lure) should I also buy with this?

Answer: You should ALWAYS have some hooks (small to 00), some assorted weights up to 1oz., and some plastic baits of asst. types (ie: worms frogs insects). cheese and salmon eggs in the bottle work well too., a couple small bobbers or corks and extra line for leaders. If you plan to use them as a snare you should have some thin snare wire or fishing line to make your snare from.

Answer: What ever is available crickets worms.. I dont usually buy bait when I am using these. Its what ever is handy and local to the waterway.

Answer: Treble hooks work pretty well and just about any bait you want depending on the fish you are targeting

Answer: I wouldn't use lures. I would just use something like worms or some other bait. Also a good idea to put more line on it. Other then that they work great. They do exactly as they are stated to do.

Answer: I seen a video on youtube explaining this, but having trouble finding it. The line is 60 lbs test. Email the company or research on youtube. Youll eventually find the info. They are nice things to have and some of the fish they catch on these are very large. Buy some and try them, you wont be disappointed,

Description says they weigh 1.6 ounces. Can't be right can someone confirm actual weight?

Answer: I weighed 1 yo-yo on my kitchen scale and it read 1.8oz but I do have an additional 10 feet of para-cord attached to my yo-yo which would account for the extra 0.2 oz. The weigh is for each yo-yo and not the entire package.

Answer: I don't have means to weigh it, but it is very light. They are a light weight aluminum. Very handy. I would recommend.

What kind of sinkers would i use for these yoyos?

are these legal in all states?

Answer: i read once that said in some state they are illegal because people use the yoyo as a snare and not for fishing so check with your state

Answer: Not legal to use in Calif. at all.. considered by the state to be a snaring device..sorry folks only in Calif..

Answer: To of what i know they are not. some states consider these limb lines as others trout lines. I ordered these and did not know I couldn't use them in my state, the seller was very nice though. You will have to call your local DEC/whoever deals with fishing regulations near you and ask. You can also check online.

Will the hook sink?

Answer: It depends on the size of your hook and the speed of the water were you are dropping your line. I use a 5/0 to 7/0 size hook. In still waters these hooks (and the bait) will sink. I mainly use them in a river with fast moving current so I add a 3 to 6oz sinker. If I don't. the current will take the hook and bait and possibly cause your yo-yo to trigger. Either way, I'd recommend using a weight in your rig.

What kind of line should i get to make it longer?

Answer: I use fishing line. Monofilament 8 Lbs test

Answer: I would think any type of braided nylon the same diameter should work

there is only about 6 feet of string , and it doesn't have much strength to set the hook if a fish bites .
I only used one of a two pack set . I added about 15 feet of fishing line when I tossed it out for catfish .
when the fish strike it does reel in to set the hook but not very strongly . the one time it did set the hook
the fish broke the string and got away . it is good for small fish ( sunfish , perch , yellows , etc.. ) but not for
anything larger .

On just messing with the mechanics of the reels they are a simple design that seems pretty well built and will work well for catching we think average fish....we're not so sure about larger fish. Testing these out when i got them the line unraveled a little and bunched up due to me holding the line between 2 fingers to slow it while it was retracting. The line is a standard fishing line with 2 strands of string in a twisted pattern around the line. If your going to "play" with these when you get them to see just how they work hold the line firmly and don't let it slide in your grip. It still works even with the user error.

Drop a line from the stern of your boat, kick back with a good book, and wait to hear the telltale zzz-zzz-zzz of the reel engaging and pulling up your dinner. What could be better? I would like to find a larger version for deeper water trolling, but these are great for trolling when we're sailing through coastal waters.

Note: make sure these are legal where you plan to use them-- many states ban mechanical yoyo reels. I only use these for catching fish to eat. There is literally no sport to catching fish with these so it would make zero sense to use them for catch and release.

Ok, I finally got the chance to try this produce yesterday..oh my..lol.
It works. Just like it says! I set my yo yo up attached to a good branch, set my line and sat back to read while waiting, where was I sitting? We'll about a yard away and below to the right. We'll it works so good that iT sprung when fish took my bait and flew out of water with the fish smacking me right in the shoulder...lmao I was laughing so hard for my own mistake ... But hey it works great!

I bought this and wanted to try it out, and to my surprise it works amazing! This thing does catch fish as well at turtles! It takes a little bit of time to set up and I wish there was a bigger hole to tie it down somewhere else, but hands down it’s amazing and work! Perfect to keep in a bug out bag for survival or as a back up for fishing. Worth the money and fun!

Love it, attached the reel to a catfish noodle and let her sit. After catching one catfish off of a 30ft. dock, the spring inside the reel quit working. Since 2 came in a package I am going to try it out again and my opinion may vary.

I've never used one of these before but I've always had an idea for something like this...just no idea how to build it. How happy I was when I found out that someone else already made it. one of the yo yo fishing reels was broken i think because it would roll and stop every few inchs i wasn't sure how to fix it and im not big on returning things but the second one worked fine. i guess its hit or miss.
