what size reel will be best suited for yellow tails in the Keys?

Answer: The 4000 is a good size for Yellowtail snapper in Keys. A 2500 is a good choice too, however they don't make a Thunnus 2500. The 4000 it's light and nimble on properly sized rod but has enough strength to handle most snapper to average size Mahi and small tuna.

Answer: This is a great reel no matter what size you choose. There are several species of fish called "Yellowtail" and they are all different in size. Choose your fish, choose how you are going to fish for them, choose the line weight you want to use and then select the reel and a rod to match the reel.

Answer: Depends on what you are fishing for.....

Answer: I totally agree with answer #1. I started out with the 8000 and found it too large. Currently I have my 11' St Croix rods paired with the smaller 4000. My fishing is a 100% northern pike. They do not take long runs so the smaller 4000 does the job. Good fishing!

Answer: Yes it does have a bait runner. It works better than those of other reel brands. It is my favorite reel for fish up to eighty pounds.

Answer: If your rich 500 yards power pro. if your not put 100 yards 30lb mono and a 300 yard spool of power pro braid.

Answer: The 8k would hold approximately 350 yards of 30 pound braid.

Ferrari of baitrunners in my opinion , own 3 and by far the best of all I've tried . Simple fresh water rinse after saltwater / sand exposure and greasing up every year which shimano offers free is unbeatable . This reel goes well on any rod 10 feet or larger and is incredibly light for all that it offers .

This reel is excellent for free lining baits! I use it on my kayak, and it can take quite a beating on the open ocean. Despite some very hash treatment, the reel is still as smooth as it was when I first purchased. Worth the investment!

DO NOT EVER BUY this reel. I bought this reel twice in 8000. The second one broke first time I brought it out to ocean fishing. I had it for a week and went out to ocean fish ONCE. How the hell did it broke on one use? The one before this one, the handle broke within months. I do NOT recommend this reel. Shimano failed.

pro: light weight, seem solid on hand, loud bait runner ( helpful when fishing at night )
cons: baitrunner switch broke after a dozen usage. ( cant reel in fish ) same thing happen on my Spinfisher 4500LL, weird how brand name product fail, n while my okuma took more abuse but still last
