Answer: I use a bait caster, but I started out with a (push button). The one great thing about a zebco is, Tell a bait caster to place his boat 5 ft. from the end of a dock and skip a worm 30 ft up under the dock. Sorry can't do it. LOL

Answer: I have mine set up on a 7.6' med/H Rod, it's a heavy big well made reel, consider that when choosing a rod.
Answer: This is a real heavy duty reel. I will be putting 20 to 30 pound test and with that I would use a very heavy light duty ocean rod. this is what I have, it cast really well great for cat fishing or light ocean Beach fishing

Answer: An 808 saltwater reel is heavy so I wouldn't put to much weight on line but yes that much weight can be fished but you lose a lot of feel of the bite.

It seems like it’s built well. Let’s see how it holds up to salt water. I’ll let you know how it does after I’ve used it for a little while. The reel did come with a small dent on the cover. Not a big deal but I like to be the one to bang up my own stuff.

It was actually a litter larger than I expected, but seems of quality construction. The action seems smooth and the drag, suitable. I bought this for saltwater pier fishing, and have not yet used it. I will pair this with a suitable rod and update my experience of putting it to the intended use.
The price is reasonable, and saltwater spin-cast reels are hard to find. If you enjoy your Zebco's, it is hard to beat in the salt. I wish they made a Xebco 33 version.

Mr P. : Disappointing saltwater reel????
Used it once at Salton Sea in may 2017. Today (9/8/17) I was preparing my fishing gear for ocean fishing and I found that the reel would not lock when reeling, the handle turns both directions without locking. The reel wasn't dropped into the water or abused. It is still in a shiny condition. Don't buy this item if you use it rarely. Corrosion happens inside the reel. ;(

Just returned from a week long inshore FL fishing trip. Too late to return the two reels. Tried various types of line, mono and braid.. Line would hardly leave reel. Basically had to pull line out of reels and let tide move line. It would have been easier using a hand line. Reel itself worked well other than the casting phase. That's what I get for not taking spinning reels. Guess I miss the Zebco 33 that I had as a kid. No where near the same quality.

It did not come with any documentation. The reel worked great until my 5th cast and the anti reverse stopped working. I had to send it back.

I was looking for a quality reel to start my 5 year old son fishing with and not a toy reel that is not capable of actually catching decent size fish. This reel has worked great for that purpose. It comes with 20lb test line and is very robust. It casts ok for a push button reel and has a pretty strong drag system. He uses it almost exclusively in saltwater and it has held up good so far with just normal rinsing after each trip. He has caught large 18 inch mangrove snapper, slot size redfish, snook, sheepshead, black drum, yellowtail and mutton snapper with no problems.
He did hook something one trip that could not be stopped and was likely a large shark. It stripped most of the line out of the reel and destroyed the drag system. I ended up having to buy another one to replace it.
Only downside is that since it is so robust, it is also fairly heavy for a reel.
