Answer: It is just a pressure fit on the spindle. Just pull the spool off, by looking you will see a small retaining lip on the body. It is quite simple after the first time, I had to change mine
Answer: On the side of reel that has the handle you will see an aluminium level it should move foreword and reel should separate. Change to your side and put back together their might be a spring inside I don't remember. Your reel should also come with a instruction sheet telling you how to change over. The reel is good if you can't do this on your own take it to a fishing store let a friend with more experience do it. Good Luck!

Answer: I cannot speak to the comparison to the TFO reel, but this spool is not too difficult to remove. Best way I have found it hold it with both hands with the frame up against your palms and use your thumbs to "punch" the spool out. The spool is definitely held in tight but it does come out with little effort if you do it in the manner I described. Its a great reel for the money!

We've made some improvements to the reel's aesthetic and functionality (mainly the spool removal mechanism) since those photos were taken, so the most up-to-date view is the one on the rod. I bought this reel early this fall and have now had a chance to use it quite a bit. I was impressed with the look and feel of the reel out of the box and after using it the performance is equally impressive! I was a bit skeptical with the low price but it performed as well as other reels I've used that go for double or triple the price. The drag system works well, the materials have been durable and it's easy to switch the retrieve hand in just a few minutes. The curved large arbor design picks up line quickly and evenly too. There's no reason to spend more for a freshwater reel. I initially bought it just to try it out and potentially use as a backup, but after experiencing how well it performed I am going to pair it with the new 5 weight rod I bought. Great deal!

Recently I ordered two "Fishing on the Fly" Reels (sizes 5/6 and 7/8) from Amazon. I definitely agree with the great majority of other reviews regarding these reels ---- they are quality products which look and function as though they will last. These are my first "large arbor" fly reels, as all my other reels are quite older, with each having much smaller arbors. The "large arbor" design used on the "Fishing on the Fly" reels is a definite advantage I had not considered before ---- very practical to have when reeling in line quickly.
Overall, after using the reels out on the water (for largemouth and smallmouth bass), I would recommend them. These products seem to be durable and represent a quality fly reel at an attractive price.
I have tested my reels with the recommended line weights ---- the reels seem to accommodate the line sizes as advertised. I also found that the 5/6 reel can accommodate line weight 7, especially if the "backing" is limited. (I haven't tried to "over line" any other line weights on the reels. My guess is that the size of the arbors on the "Fishing on the Fly" reels would probably accommodate other line weight possibilities.
A final note: Regarding customer service from Andrew at "Fishing on the Fly":
I recently emailed the company concerning ordering replacement drag screws for each of my two reels --- to have on hand in case these screws were lost in the future for some reason. I soon received an email from Andrew, who advised these screws are not stocked and it would take time to acquire them. In a couple of days, he emailed again to say they had already been mailed to me. Superb customer service, considering this somewhat minor request.

Opened up the Freshwater Series 6wt fly reel today, pulled out a sleek and cool looking black reel with a nice size arbor, wide spool and handle that seemed to suit the feel in my hands. How can this be made and sold for $30 bucks!? Got to be a catch, so I fiddled with the drag, feels awesome with many adjustable points with in its adjustment range. I started to look at the features or manufacturing to see where the saving could be made. Think its die cast, not anodized, so may be less resistant to scrapes and dings and line wear. Perhaps it total pound or drag pressure is lower, but plenty for trout. Perhaps the drag system is cheaper? Time will tell. Lined it with 50 yard Dacron backing, WF Hover 6wt. line and the shape of the reel took the line well, if a reel arbor is too skinny, sinking lines coil loosely, giving the angler problems. Took it fishing and did not notice it being too heavy which I thought could be the case for the price point. Nope, it balanced my 6 wt TFO just fine At some point later I hooked onto a wild Cutty on a small nymph, the fish ran hard in moving water and I instinctively put him " on the reel", a quick adjustment of the drag which was easy to do with the shape of the knob and he fought his best with the drag protecting the 4x fluro like its supposed to. Later I started throwing streamers and hooked a larger fish, just under 20 " and he made two hard runs and the line came off the reel in a controlled manner, this is when I noticed the pick up rate was fast and I quickly gained back the line. This is a quality reel, looks good, sounds great and performs well. I have many other reels, one in particular that I purchased from my favorite 4 letter word brand that seems to do the same things this reel did, expect my S^%* reel began to have a decrease in performance after a season and I now only really use the 9th and 10th click on the drag setting, as the others are useless. If this reel last that long and beyond I would consider it a great value.

I ordered this Fishing on the Fly reel for a couple of reasons. The reel I keep my sinking line on took a dump last time I was on the water, and I needed something to replace it. I went with this because of its clicking on retrieve (my preference), it's design, and of course, its price.
It reviewed well, and I figured that even if half of what people said were true, it would be a decent reel for the "price" as people always say.
This isn't just a decent reel "at the price"; it's a nice reel. It would be a nice reel at twice the price, and perhaps even at 2.5x the price. I used to work at a big box Outfitter outlet with a tin green roof, and this EXACT reel, with a better known branding and packaging, sold for more than twice the price. And I sold a lot of them.
The reel is tight, tolerances are close, setting the drag is positive and tactile, and it's light yet sturdy feeling. It handles fish very well, and stripping line out feels good.
I like the packaging, I love the little felt reel bag, and there's a form letter from the company owner that makes it sound like he is rely interested in the customer being happy with the product. And even though the reel is made in China, the literature included is in English. Proper English that wasn't just run through Google Translate. If I were to have an issue with this reel (which I don't foresee), I get the impression he would want to make it right.
My wife bought this reel for me, so even though this isn't a "confirmed purchase" out whatever it's called, we did pay for this, and I'm glad we did!

I'm gonna say this, this is a Plain Jane looking reel no logos nothing. But it is a really nice looking reel once it's in your hands the fit and finish on the reel I recieved was spot on I purchased the 5/7 and lined it up and took it out to the back yard to get a feel for a new rod I bought and this reel is gonna stay on that rod they just paired up perfectly. My hat goes off to the seller of this reel it's not one of the many cookie cutter reels that are all over Amazon with different logos on them but still the exact same reel from the same factory. I will definitely buy from this seller again no problem I am in the market for a new 3wt. anyhow. Pick up one of these reels and if you don't like it the owner Andrew said he'd make it right and I believe him.

I bought this reel for sunfish (brim, bluegills, "sunnies"!) Call 'em whatever! I unboxed and examined this reel. Was I pleased? You bet! It's quite smooth, well finished and appears to be quite durable. I don't think that you could ask for more. My choice was "smallish" (5-6 weight), however, if the quality is similar, larger models should be great! Would I hesitate to purchase another? NO WAY!

I bought this reel a couple weeks back for my new 5 wt and just recently got a chance to get out and use it. I’m pretty impressed with it so far! It comes in a nice little box and pouch, and has a sleek appearance. Used it for the first time this past weekend and it stood up to a couple of really nice rainbows. The drag system worked fine, although even these bigger trout didn’t take that much line, so it wasn’t really stress-tested. All around though – good purchase, I’m using it as my everyday 5 wt reel!

I bought this 5/6wt reel out of curiosity to compare with an almost identical more expensive name brand reel I also own. They're pretty darn close on the surface, in fact the spools are interchangeable but with a much stronger drag on the Fishing on the Fly reel, not that I typically use much drag with small to medium trout. It's worth it to me to save $15.00, I'll be ordering another, they're almost as cheap as many spare spools. Think I'll be using them for various Skagit heads loaded with running line...nice real, good value

This isn't just a decent reel "at the price"; it's a nice reel. It would be a nice reel at twice the price, and perhaps even at 2.5x the price. I used to work at a big box Outfitter outlet with a tin green roof, and this EXACT reel, with a better known branding and packaging, sold for more than twice the price. And I sold a lot of them.
The reel is tight, tolerances are close, setting the drag is positive and tactile, and it's light yet sturdy feeling. It handles fish very well, and stripping line out feels good.
I like the packaging, I love the little felt reel bag, and there's a form letter from the company owner that makes it sound like he is rely interested in the customer being happy with the product. And even though the reel is made in China, the literature included is in English. Proper English that wasn't just run through Google Translate. If I were to have an issue with this reel (which I don't foresee), I get the impression he would want to make it right.
My wife bought this reel for me, so even though this isn't a "confirmed purchase" out whatever it's called, we did pay for this, and I'm glad we did!
Basically stated, I like this reel a lot. I'll buy another one. The only thing I'd like to see is other color options. That's really the only complaint I'd want to see addressed in a reel of this build quality at anywhere below $90. You can't go wrong picking one of these up!
